• How to have fun with iPhone 4's advert

I'm going to be upgrading from my 3gs for this for sure, even though it's quite obvious apple is really pushing it by calling everything revolutionary, over here in Dubai, going to a phone store and trying not to find a phone with 2 cameras on it, at the price of the iPhone is very hard. Pretty much all $500+ contract-less phones have 2 cameras here. This isn't new at all, both my parents have two cameras on each of their phones. My old phone from 04 had two cameras... :\ , plus they can video call to any other phone using your 3g package, doesn't need wifi, and doesn't need to be on the same phone. And even then, my parents have never even used it because it's so pointless :\ But still, this looks like a great upgrade from the 3gs to the 4g, no other phone offers such a stable os and huge variety of apps on an app market.
I like the high-res screen. I'll probably get it when the iPhone 4GS or something is released.
3GS is already overpriced so I don't want to know what this one will cost.
I'll probably get it in two years or so. [editline]04:58PM[/editline] But the software upgrade will be great.
While it dows look like a decent piece of technology, they're woefully exaggerating it, and being really fucking smug about it at the same time. Most of these features have been available on jailbroken devices for years anyway.
oooh new type of steel and new type of glass... im buying it.
My retinas can hardly handle the sheer amount of white in Apple's website, therefore I am unable to search it myself. Am I blind, or are there no useful details like processor or RAM specifications?
the RAM is the same as the 3GS, but the CPU is the same as the iPad. basically. [editline]10:30AM[/editline]
Pro tip: Technical specifications aren't exactly helping the EVO with its clunky OS.
there's nothing clunky about android you're nuts oh wait no you're just an iPhone fanboy right
Never gotten an Iphone, but more than likely going for this one.
So many people will buy this thinking the video call is OMG amazing without realising that 1. You can only do it to people with iPhones. 2. You need wifi. So it's useless essentially. I hate apple
1. No, the standard is open. Skype could make use of it, or any other mobile phone. 2. This is where jailbreak comes in.
1. No, the standard is open. Skype could make use of it, or any other mobile phone. 2. This is where jailbreak comes in.
1. actually i was certain that with all phones it has to be the same phone, or at least the same carrier (ie sprint with sprint, verizon with verizon, etc.) 2. at&t still doesn't have unlimited data(they did, don't know why they don't anymore), and the cap is 2GB. using this over data in conjunction with web browsing and applications that use data, you'll probably hit that 2GB cap in a matter of 2 weeks. [editline]12:05PM[/editline] 2.a. so basically what i'm saying is unless you jailbreak it to use someone aside for at&t, using this over 3G is a stupid idea
Lol!
there's nothing clunky about android you're nuts oh wait no you're just an iPhone fanboy right
I tried a Nexus One. Coming from an iPhone 3GS, it was choppy as hell.
I tried a Nexus One. Coming from an iPhone 3GS, it was choppy as hell.
oh i'm sure it was
oh i'm sure it was
Okay, keep disregarding everyone else's opinion. I'm sure it makes you feel better about your choices.
"everyone else's" opinion? sorry you seem to be the only person in this thread saying android is clunky
I have had the same Moto Razer for about 6 years now. I use it as a phone and I use my computer for everything else.
perhaps, maybe, you're disregarding everyone else's opinion? not sure if you've noticed or maybe you've imagined otherwise, but i haven't yet said anything bad about the iphone, iOS, or that android is better. the only thing i don't like about this is apple clearly misleading with the display difference between the iPhone 4 and previous models. [editline]10:01PM[/editline] broke the merge [editline]10:01PM[/editline]
I have had the same Moto Razer for about 6 years now.
"everyone else's" opinion? sorry you seem to be the only person in this thread saying android is clunky
You won't find many people saying shit about Android since it's officially cool to hate on Apple in Facepunch. I had a real interest in Android for as long as I remember. Trying it on a Nexus One kind of disappointed me. I mean, the App Market is pathetic in comparison in my opinion, and anything that it boasts over the iPhone can be done on the iPhone with jailbreaking, really. I'm happy that more phone companies are using Android rather than the junk they made themselves, so at least that's the good thing about it. I'm not biased at all. I was totally 99% on the edge to ditch my iPhone and get an Android device, but trying one proved that I'd be better off sticking with an iPhone. You can check the Android Apps thread if you want to see an earlier discussion I had with another guy, if you really want to. Just proof that I'm not basing this opinion off of some Engadget commenters.
No I pay attention in class like you're meant to.
that was just an example, you're not actually either in class or at home are you? sounds very dull if so. hey guys, it's a fucking phone.
also, just to add, if you have to jailbreak/hack/break an EULA for product X to be better than product Y, then maybe product X isn't better than product Y at square one.

I simply said that the majority of people tend to favor iPhone OS apps. And most of the apps don't suck. Just because some fart apps gained popularity two years ago doesn't mean it's all we have. You should take a look at the top apps. We have quality stuff from EA, Activision, Gameloft, you name it. That's what you get for taking part in the OS with a much larger share: companies display a larger interest in making apps for you and the rate at which great apps come out only accelerates. Also, the iPhone was out for one year longer than Android. A year after the AppStore started, it had 55,000 apps. A year after Android Market started, it has 20,000 apps. It has nothing to do with how much longer iPhone was out. It's just a better platform to make apps for because of the much larger audience, hence the bigger number of apps and the better support by bigger companies. [editline]05:28AM[/editline]
also, just to add, if you have to jailbreak/hack/break an EULA for product X to be better than product Y, then maybe product X isn't better than product Y at square one.
Stupid argument. If you're honestly telling me you'll put up with Android's complex bullshit and waiting years for an overdue update instead of running an exe on your computer and waiting 10 seconds, then perhaps you're better off sticking with Android then. Just to put emphasis on the aforementioned acceleration, Two years after Android Market came out, it has 70,000 apps. Two years after App Store came out, it has 225,000 apps. This is fucking embarrassing seeing as how Android is on dozens of devices and popular phones, whereas iOS is on three.
go flick through the app store and find how many applications you actually want as opposed to those you don't care about. obviously one you'd want would have a higher popularity or rating so don't set it by that. there are a LOT of useless iPhone apps, and if you seriously don't think there aren't, you're full of shit. not saying android isn't the same, just saying that you're saying iOS isn't like that, and it is. the hugest reason for there being more iPhone apps than android apps, and this has absolutely NOTHING to do with the platform, is because there's also the iPod Touch. did you forget about the iPod Touch? well, if you did, it's basically an iPhone without the cell phone part, it's neat actually, you can use probably 90% of the apps an iPhone can use, just not the ones cell service related. what's great about this little guy is, well, say your kid wants an iPhone, but you don't want to pay for the monthly service, what's the next best thing? an iPod Touch. [editline]10:37PM[/editline] becuase it's geared toward such a huge demographic, there are SO MANY people with either or both an iPhone or an iPod Touch, that it'd actually be commercially retarded for people like EA and Gameloft NOT to develop for the platform, they thrive off of that shit! there aren't a whole lot of noncellular android devices out, and android isn't intended for kids or a gift for dad. it's a bit more niche than the iPhone.
There are a lot of apps, but the majority? Or even quarter? No. iPhones also sold more than iPod touches. [editline]05:39AM[/editline]
There are a lot of apps, but the majority? Or even quarter? No. iPhones also sold more than iPod touches.
Android is also on many more devices than just phones. Many tablets, etc. What's your point? I never ignored the iPod touch. In fact, I mentioned it in my previous post. EDIT: This is sort of ridiculous. It's not like either of us are going to change their minds. You like Android, I like iOS. Let's leave it at that.
yes, a majority of the apps. you're lying through your teeth (fingers?) right now. also http://www.zdnet.com/blog/hardware/apple-fudges-iphone-sales-figures-by-bundling-ipod-touch-numbers-into-the-mix/8290
yes, a majority of the apps. you're lying through your teeth (fingers?) right now. also http://www.zdnet.com/blog/hardware/apple-fudges-iphone-sales-figures-by-bundling-ipod-touch-numbers-into-the-mix/8290
I use the Wikipedia to get the sales figures. They are correct at 20 million iPods and 50 million iPhones. Android also never had a bigger market share. It sold more during Q1 of 2010, which is expected because not only is a new iPhone coming out which makes people wait for it, but there are way more Android devices. It's kind of pathetic that they barely beat Apple in sales in Q1. This is why I want to stop. You're just going to blatantly come up with shit about the AppStore just to make yourself feel better, all I can do is bang my head against the wall because you're not getting it. Just stop arguing.
Stupid argument.
hey guys, it's a fucking phone.
hey makol, it's a fucking forum I never saw the use in a smartphone, i just use my cell for calling. No texting or any of that shit. Just calling. These "apps" look interesting and somewhat useful, but not enough for me to drop 300 bucks. A lot of the apps are a waste of time, just browsing through them. Should I get a smart phone, I'd only have a few "apps" that I would use regularly, not multiple pages of useless shit
complex? yeah if you're a rodent yeah that's great might i ask how many applications on your iphone are installed? yes and of those how many do you use? iOS is also on iPad and iPod touch. specifically one iPad and three iPod touch generations. also one thing i forgot to add earlier, Apple already had a high reputation with portables with the iPods long before they even considered making a cell phone. that factors into the popularity both purchasing and developing for an iOS device
Putting the argument aside because it's clear now that you're just saving face, I'll just answer your question. According to my purchase history, I downloaded 280 apps so far this year. The point isn't how many more you'll have on your device, but the fact that there will be more availability. There will also usually be like 3 apps that exist for the same purpose. It's up to you to pick the best out of the three in that case, or the one that suits you best anyway.
