It certainly would help if there was like a single pastebin/image that would contain all our arguments and proof why we are right in a single form, that could help us convince anti-gg people
because honestly, after reading that cracked article part of me feels almost convinced that Zoe Quinn is right. I mean, I've been following this thread since page one of the SH version, and while I do know that we are right, I feel like all arguments as to why we are right have almost completely vanished of my head through the course of the last weeks
Look, I'm not naive enough to change my mind by 180' after reading a single piece of text, especially a one where you can see inconsistencies with a naked eye. It's just that if I suddenly found out that one of my friends/collegues/familly supports Zoe, I know for a fact that I would not be able to convince him to our side, nor even win an argument with him
There's a bit too much of that to compile it into an image. I'm at 100MB of stuff now.
(Though admittedly a lot of that comes from people here posting unsourced screenshots.)
That reminds me that I should add a Puppetmaster class to my game
Thank you!
This is only the tip of the iceberg too. Quite literally, this video is... pretty weak compared to some of the stuff I'll be covering later.
There's logs I'm working with that are flat out damning, that people have yet to even be aware of. Zoe Quinn is quite a hurtful person, I hope everyone will be able to see that through the subsequent videos.
[editline]21st September 2014[/editline]
I'm so sorry to hear that. But I'm glad it resonates with you.
I was worried people would think I was reading too much into things. But no, it seems I've really struck a chord somewhere. I'm so glad. This is only the beginning.
After watching your video, I just want you to know that it was someone breaking down emotional abuse in the way that you have that helped me escape my own hell. It took a long time to recover fully but that person made the process a lot easier.
People joke about guilt trips and nagging but holy shit it can get so serious so fast and you won't even realize it.

From what I've seen, it's mostly badly-presented opinions no-one wants to listen to. So basically anything that's not all that reasonable to believe.
I say that as someone who would read through absolute garbage if it was sent to me as honestly held opinion by the author btw.

I think that given everything we know about the NSA and the events of #gamergate regarding the media, it's time that we collectively stop making fun of people that come up with conspiracy theories. Just regard them as something that you read and keep it in the back of your mind if you want, or ignore if you don't care. By making fun of people with theories that attempt to explain some series of events, you undermine their whole argument when it might have some validity to it, even if it isn't all true.
The only mod that would have done so because of differing radical opinion was demodded already. We have been civil enough otherwise that the other mods let us do what we want.
Apart from that, even the adbot stuff is DDT'd here (with the links removed) instead of being deleted most of the time.

That one didn't have any argument at all, so I felt kinda justified to point and laugh at it a bit. I agree with you though, because our whole construction seems like a conspiracy theory to many people out there.
And frankly I think it even was satirical.

[editline]edit[/editline]
I just read that image, I'm not entirely sure whether the comparison is apt but I also wouldn't be that surprised if something along those line actually happened.
Some people I know go to great length to manipulate others so it's not that out of the blue for an outlier of this magnitude to exist.
Images like the one being made here are extremely important to this kind of movement. They're easily digested summaries of information that give people an idea at a glance of what's been going on.
Speaking of, we need more of these kind of summaries, not in image form, but in concise articles, websites, etc not just 100 page forum threads nobody new coming into this is going to read. I don't feel like i've been involved enough to do this for #GG but I wrote a decent summary for the PGI issue recently which has been way overshadowed by #GG (for good reason).
The main thing to worry about is that these news sites we're up against are very good at creating a digestable shot of marketable information, whether or not it's true. We gotta do the same thing and get that info out there to compete, except with true info. Knowyourmeme.com has done the best job at this so far which is pretty pathetic, we need more.
To my layman's perspective, it looks like false pretenses. She misrepresented the fact that she was giving money to charity in advertising material in order to gain money. Whether or not that can hold up in court is not something I know, but she certainly defrauded people who thought their money was going to charity.
I'm not very good with US law (Did I mention that I consider common law to be a gigantic mess that is in serious need of reform?), so the most I can do is infer from things that exist in civil law and can be reasonably expected to turn up in other western legislations.
So if I say something that's blatantly wrong it's great if someone corrects me. The only areas I somewhat know my way around internationally are IT, copyright and privacy law.
Why? Just why? Moot, a voice of reason and a website representing freedom. Why the fuck would someone like him attend some stupid Sarkeesian bullshit? That is like Obama going to a Tea Party convention. I mean it makes no sense. It stands to reason that someone like him would dislike these people and this situation. There is nothing wrong with merely attending but you wouldnt intentionally go watch human garbage.
But maybe Moot was always like this and just happened to create a website that has very radically different viewpoints on things. I dont want to jump to conclusions because im sure there is a reason for this but...I dunno.
I feel sad again. With victories comes defeat in the form of fallen heroes. Just who the hell is going to stand up to these people and make things happen? We are making progress but will it be enough?
Merkel visits Putin and Obama all the time and it's exceedingly clear she doesn't think too highly of quite a lot of what they do.
There is a lot better circumstantial evidence than Moot attending a conferences that's not even (explicitly) mainly about feminism.

Where would Giant bomb go on there?
I did complain about that earlier, but lets elaborate.
That big fucking network graph someone is working on? That's one of the problems with this movement. How many people on that graph do you actually think are 100% complicit with the problems in the industry? It's probably only a small subset of the people on the graph that are actual problem causers, others are probably just people who support their friends and are unaware, or are aware but don't give a shit anyway because it doesn't impact them.
Weird grasping at straws like that just makes this whole thing look fucking dumb really. And that's all external eyes are seeing, a bunch of guys grasping at straws to find connections that aren't there. If you want to actually do something useful for the movement, that is not what you need to be doing. As Reimu said, focus on the abuses of power that we know of and can confirm, stop trying to drag others into the web unless they give themselves away or you have proper evidence of their involvement.
I very clearly label stuff as unconfirmed connections etc and I'm very clear about who supports or discredits what. I also put pro-GG people on there just as much as feminists and evidence for either side, as well as mentioning if something has been discredited. That's the reason why it's so huge and why I have trouble keeping up with the thread. (Most of the connections I put in that graph are from own research. I only can get leads from here because half of the posts are insufficiently sourced.)
If you want to have a look you can get it for yourself using BTSync pointed at BW77N2273GZJUTZTNL4DXFOFVSAB34LR7, the only thing I've seen so far is that there is a very vocal relatively small core group of people pushing their agendas and engaging is extremely deplorable tactics in the process that has a lot of influence and is followed word for word by a huge group of people without questioning (which I disregard if they aren't creating content themselves).
This doesn't seem to happen in the pro-GG side as much, in terms of lying, emotional manipulation and monetary involvement.
I admit that I'm leaving out some stuff I stumble across though, like Reimu's real name (which is not exactly that much more difficult to find than mine, I didn't even actively look for it).
[editline]21st September 2014[/editline]
That would have come up sooner or later I'm sure. The actual reasoning of "hey...these two indies guys both took part in this, it must be involved!" is pretty janky. You got lucky that there was actually a connection there.
It's completely fine to track these connections, a single one doesn't say much by itself.
The interesting stuff comes up when it starts looking denser than the average spider's web, with inter-meshing loops and quadruple connections everywhere.
To find the latter you absolutely must do the former though; There's no way to make a carpet without strings, or spider webs without silk strands etc.

I get that it's hard to show a desk job, but they could at least do a semi-realistic job even if they have to move all the evidence out of the picture.
We should make a timeline for what the whole deal is about with major and minor events on it. So if someone asks what gamergate is about because he heard it's about zoe we could just link him that and it wouldn't be a wall of text worth 30 minutes read.
I might do something at monday, I'm about to go out.

[editline]21st September 2014[/editline]
That's a valid point, but I never mentioned anything about success ;).
My original end goal honestly was just to get people to admit that ZQ is abusive. Which, well, still hasn't succeeded since most people have no idea what she put Eron through. But over time I started to realize that journalists were being extremely disrespectful towards gamers, and the "gamers are all dead" articles killed it for me. There was so much entitlement and mansplaining going on. Then people both in and outside of the industry started to privately message me, and warn me that a lot of key characters in the community were abusive, hurtful, manipulative, destroyed careers for profit, ladder climbers, opportunists, two-faced... list goes on.
So "success" for me is a.) getting people to recognize abuse in the industry and out abusers, b.) end bad ethical standards in gaming journalism, c.) encourage higher standards for journalism that encourages critique over blogging, and d.) break the current echo chamber in social justice communities that forces abuse survivors into exile in order to protect themselves from abuse.
I'm more than willing to use conservatives to accomplish A through D, as long as they aren't given a position to jockey themselves into the power vacuum that will appear.
Have fun with d.), you'd probably have to individually educate half the members to achieve that from what I've seen from my two weeks on Tumblr.

Don't worry, everyone and their mother here knows how to use a proxy "thanks" to GEMA.

[editline]21st September 2014[/editline]
Perhaps because there might be a disproportionate amount of pro-GG people from Germany? That'd be my only guess though.
Well the most important gaming publications here are run by full-time journalists, have own staff and generally don't buy into that whole harassment scenario (or anything, really) without evidence, and will clearly state if something is a rumour.
Another factor is that German politics really are very dry and factual and somewhat relatedly the stuff the "journalists" do is almost universally seen as silly and unprofessional by people who care. (Not saying that Germans are unfunny, we just tend to differentiate between serious and non-serious things.)
(I really love that about this country. If someone would try to get a foot on the group with that blatantly populist and self-gratulary stuff they are either the Bild (and not even that thing insults its readers) and pandering to an audience that doesn't have a spine in the first place, or will become stuck in geostationary orbit instead.)
