Also, for anyone talking about Valve, they aren't likely to speak out about this issue, but you can go ahead and grab some quotes directly from Gabe Newell that can relate to this subject. http://www.develop-online.net/news/new-year-new-job-gabe-newell-s-best-advice-for-aspiring-devs/0110806 "Do not focus on anyone but your customers. Your reputation will follow you forever so always be fair to your customers, and certainly one thing you need to always remember is that your customers are not going to be fooled." "Some people think they can get away with something and just hope people won’t see through the bullshit. The internet is way smarter than any of us." Gabe supports us in secret.
Can anyone please link me to the King of /pol/ stream? I'm interested to hear it but i wasn't awake at 4am.
Actually he supports us in public, but no one is going to weigh in the way that freelancers can. EA is literally sending out memos from their PR department on how to double speak and what words to pick in their media descriptions. To put this in perspective, EA's marketing budget is almost two and half times the size of its dev budget, it's been that way for years. The flood of people leaving BW and other satellite companies after the next four projects are released will not be coincidences, no matter what the Blog tells you, or how curiously they seem to be spaced apart. It's really simple, literally simple as it can be, and this is why this kind of bullshittery holds so much leverage: It you repeat something enough times and make it into a pattern based mantra by splitting it into concurrent parts and spacing them out a bit, it almost always-always becomes true, unless countered by a direct refutation of equal vigor. Gamers have two resources, and while both are finite, they are precious and powerful. Time and money. Stop reading inflammatory blogs by people who are simply using them as a grudge weapon. Stop going to obvious shill sites, even if your favorite game personality-person is there, and for fuck's sake, do your damn homework. Stop supporting sweathouses and stockholder-quarter-profit mills, like UbiSoft. Stop spending your money on companies who give nothing back to the community that pays their bills. Sarkeesian is very rarely in contextual correctness, and certain bereft of anything remotely resembling wisdom, but she is absolutely right about one thing: It's time for gaming and gamers to grow up, not in the cyclic political and reactionary sheeple manner she espouses, but rather in the mean of someone who's realized that quality > quantity and that the time you spend gaming is both finite and personally precious. Stop buying shitty games from shitty companies whom employ shitty people. It's really that simple. Find good games by good folks and cultivate them with the resources that are absolutely under your control: time and money and explanation of experience. [sp](and do your damn homework before filling that CC field or clicking a buy now button)[/sp]

Like I wont ever forgive them for what they did with 1.5-->1.6 but not once have I felt like they were trying to pander or some shit, in fact I always felt like Valve was 100% set on there artistic vision for the better of the game and not about what people say. And just from following gabe this entire time, and completely ignoring the huge circlejerk for him, he really does mean the shit he says, he hasnt proven otherwise.

Reimu, Great video. Can't wait for the next part. Edit: I haven't had internet for the last 3 days, and I'm behind in the thread. Can someone give me a quick summary of what's happened in the last day or two? I'm trying to catch up in the thread, but there is a lot of information to absorb.

I can't even believe it took that long for steam to fix everything.
so 8chan's really picking up steam isn't it? I feel like I have to slowly emmigrate from my internet home because it's been overtaken by some evil force recently. i'm a foreigner in a strange new land and I jsut want to go home and i wish mommy and daddy would love each other again so I could go back home to shit up Metal gear threads :(

He's asking if he's got an anecdote or an example of a situation where indie devs had to change their artistic vision to make sure the "cool kids club" would deem their game acceptable. I'm studying 3D animation in a program oriented for video games. Our university is very close and well known to Ubisoft Montreal, Eidos Montreal, and other studios around here. Most of our teachers work or have worked there before. In the 3rd semester we have to get in teams of 4-5 students and come up with a game prototype, then in December we present the concepts to judges who are game designers in the industry and/or game designers that are now teaching it. I've talked with a friend who's game was picked last year (he's in 5th semester now), I wanted tips on how to approach my idea and he was super useful, and eventually he said "Oh, make sure there's important female characters in your game. If there's no females in your game, even if there's only one character and it happens to be a male, some judges will say it's misogynist and you'll lose points. If there's only female characters they won't say it's feminist and you won't win extra points, but just make sure there's at least 1 female." What the hell? I was going to put female characters in my game anyway due to the nature of my game (it's a party game with a lot of characters), but not every game needs to have a female main character. Forcing it certainly isn't the best way to get better female protagonists either.
Christ, so much shit has happened. Could someone explain to me what started this all off? I'm not trying to be a lazy cunt, it's just that so much shit's happening so quickly, I don't know where to start looking.
Thank you. Any idea when the major points start to happen?
I appear around the 4th hour, I was going to reupload the footage on my YT channel but after watching that fully awake I saw all the mistakes I made. KOP removed me from skype and when I dm'd about it he said I trolled to much "no offense", I won't try again to get back on or watch another stream. He's a calm and collective guy and I think that's what his major problem is. During that stream when we had the anti gg person, he failed to see how he was extending his airtime. Literally he ate up an entire hour of bullshit arguments and rambling. I messaged him in this 'queue' skype chat to disconnect the line but he kept saying "dw it'll end soon", well it never did. He's got a lot of patience and he's too friendly, but that's a good characteristic on a person like him in this situation. I hope it goes well [editline]23rd September 2014[/editline] Also as much as I disagree with Milo on certain things, I have to take him up on this offer
Haha holy crap the Steam curators thing just launched and TotalBiscuit is top subscribed, beating kotaku and neogaf by miles, he just broke the 45000 mark in the last couple of minutes Wouldn't be surprised if they had a butthurt article out by lunchtime about it claiming PC gaming is dead

I didn't think you "trolled to much" on that stream. You were just really busy being tired and Australian, although that see ya cunts was a bit out.

You are joking right? So If I made a game about jelly cubes playing golf IF I don't make sure I don't have jelly cubes with the clear distinction that they are female I get points taken off. Wow.
