A good way to fight bad journalism is by supporting good journalism.
For the occasional francophone, Gameblog seem to know their shit, at least at first glance.
Would it be a good idea to make a list of journalists that switched sides a bit too easily?
this video is informative

The video's now private. Anyone know why?
Then get off your arse and do so, to illustrate your own integrity.
No need to attack him...Saying nothing illustrates integrity more than saying something against the allegations. True that more proper game journalists should show that they shy away from this behaviour, but that will come in due time.
Also this

If that's the video I'm thinking of, they're currently updating the video or something to that effect. I've been in the IRC for a while and that's the gist that I'm getting. I guess they want more solid proof.
Edit: Yeah, they're factchecking it.

(of which concerns people had, I will address when we have the site up, which is currently being built as well as content being written.)
Oh, I'll be sure to tell all my friends!
We need to keep writing and submitting mail to these sites and to their advertisers.
The more advertisers see how bad this situation is making their product look, the more scared website owners will become, which means increased pressure on these "journalists"

Just when you thought it was impossible to think less of someone, they go ahead and write that piece of garbage.
What a world

Sigh. This part of the article:
There are a couple of major complaints about Sarkeesian, which boil down to 1) she’s not a real gamer and 2) she’s pushing a social justice agenda that is, somehow (it is never actually explained), ruining gaming.
Yet again shows how ignorant these people are. This Anita Sarkeesian thing has been going on for what, a year now? And they still don't understand what it is that people actually dislike about her?
Oh, I'll be sure to tell all my friends!
Hey now. I'm hoping the content will speak for itself. I sincerely hope you at least check it out before dismissing us. We're really serious about getting this off the ground and have a team already hard at work to do so. Just to dissuade concerns that I'm doing it for profit, there likely won't be much, at least at first. I'll be running at a loss. Any profit made will be going to compensate my staff for their hard work and donated time. I'm not out to stiff anybody. We're genuinely passionate about video games and genuinely upset at the current state of journalism surrounding it. We are confident that we can make something cool from this and that's what we aim to do.
I really hope you can give us a chance before trying to throw a spanner in the works. We'll have a very strict code of ethics that I can assure you we are determined to follow without fail. We want to be better than the standard set by many in the industry. We also have a lot of ideas! Above all I just hope people dig it. I know I'm an asshole sometimes on here but I'm not bias and I love games and our site will reflect that (sans the asshole part, I am to me much more professional and reasonable). And most of all we can't be paid off. Our opinions are our own and nobody else can buy them. That's the main purpose behind this. Giving people honest evaluations in an industry that really needs them.

Holy fucking shit. Is he really appealing to emotion now? Ignoring that, let's go through his arguments.
They see the world of video game journalists and developers as ‘cliquish’ and ‘nepotistic.’ That’s because they don’t understand networking [...]
Using your 'Networking' in the world of journalism is looked down upon, and is considered corruption for a reason.
There are a couple of major complaints about Sarkeesian, which boil down to 1) she’s not a real gamer [...]
No, the main complaint is that she didn't do proper research, while claiming to have done it, and that most of her points are factually wrong. And that is mostly because she didn't examine the freaking samples she used to build her arguments.
a fairly standard academic critique they shit their pants. [...]
I don't know, really, on the university where I study we usually read on the subject, and make deep analysis on what we're writing an essay on.
Most of her 'evidence' were snippets of youtube gameplays rather than actually playing the game and basing her arguments after going through the experience as intended by the authors of the title.
rallying under a banner that claims “Social Justice Warriors” are trying to take the fun out of games.
"It’s a meaningless ideal at best and a poisonous priority at worst. Fun is a neurological trick. Plenty of categorically unhealthy things are “fun”."
I feel really insulted by the way this article spuns things. For all I care Zoe could fuck a whole bus of men and I wouldn't give a shit about it, I don't care about Anita either, she raiser her funds with the help of likewise minded people to push her agenda, and that was clear from day one. All I care is that the pieces of 'journalism' that should be keeping me informed on my hobby are either pushing agenda or selling their asses for the highest bidders.

I think the more people try to do what you're doing the better off we're collectively gonna be. I suggest you check out what the guys at http://vidya.moe are doing, though. They focus a lot on anonymity and how to setup a more decentralized system that is therefore more resistant to corruption. It's worth checking so that at least you get a few ideas perhaps.

Man, I seriously hope this guy gets shitcanned. Way to completely side-step all of the issues, tell everyone else that they're wrong and need to grow up, and then tell everyone that the discussion is over.

Sorry if I'm skeptical, but that content'd have to be really something, you know.
Seeing how at the very point of conception you'd made it pretty clear how you regard your target market, and invalidated your promises of 'transparency', 'integrity' and 'honesty', you'd have to do one hell of a smashing job.
Or, you know, the old-rhetoricy-charismatic-McBrown-nose routine you've practiced to an absolute art, that could get you all the way to the piggy bank. You're shitting out buzzwords like an e-coli outbreak at a PR convention, for christsakes.
It's worrying that you're always bringing it back to your income, instead of the outcome. Are your coffers hollow, or shallow, or is there something so shiny in there that you can look yourself contently?
If any spanner were to be brought forward, it'd have been borrowed from your toolbox.
At least you've remembered how the shift key works today.
I love how he admit to being a completely rotten example of humanity (here)
n my past I have hurt people, sometimes intentionally. I have cheated on women and I have been with women who were cheating. I have stolen, and in amounts that probably would have gotten me into some real trouble. I have behaved like an absolute shit to people online. I think I do it less now - I try to do it less now - but I, like everybody else in the world, has a history of being a rotten person at one point or another.
In what seems an attempt at "Hey guys, I'm just as awful as you are" in order to try and appeal to people, but instead he's just admitting to be a scumbag.

By the way guys, keep the review stuff out of this thread, it's what got the last one closed down.

Because that was the whole point I was addressing in the post? There's now a clear distrust, and even in the face of that I'm still dedicated to make something of this because I know we can produce great, uncorruptable content. That's very much outcome focused. I and others want to make something cool and something to be proud of. I wouldn't have a bunch of people onboard if we weren't all confident in the idea. I made a big misstep in our very first moments by posting in the general style of the gmf which is incredibly facetious and shouldn't be taken to heart. We mean beeswax and we ain't no con. We are totally transparent, that's why I'm straight up telling you that I hope we can keep the website afloat, and that I don't get content from my team for nothing. That's the transparent part.
I hope for it to become bigger than a side project! I don't see why it's so wrong to have prospects. But at the end of the day I want to make good content that I'm proud of.
For real, I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't care.
Yeah please keep the review stuff out of this. Don't care if you're creating the content or promoting it. We can't risk losing threads like this, especially because some people come to this thread for a.) information, b.) links for the Maya Felix call out.

It's a hot button issue and it's kind of off-topic. It upset a lot of people last thread.
Rusty, I don't have any personal preference, but please - let's just keep it out of this thread, okay? It's obviously something that riles people up, and the last thing I want is for this thread to go off the rails again.
I once started a movie review blog on my own too. It's not like this came from nowhere. I've always been passionate about my opinions.

Yeah good point, I'll keep it outta here. I thought it was relevant enough to the topic but if it's not wanted it's not wanted.

The self-righteousness in that article could have only been more present if he started to refer to himself as "internet jesus".

No hard feelings, really. It's just that it's obviously a lightning rod for issues, that's all.

I'm all for getting riled up and neurotic and begging the question into the small-wee-hours, but I'm not gonna derail this thread anymore.
If you're talking to me, PM me, or do this in another thread.
If your here to massage/advertise yourself, go elsewhere, it's off topic.

Why the hell is the best written and most detailed article about this whole issue on Breitbart? I hope this Milo guy puts up something about this on Business Insider. That would be something.

And he's already getting Death Threats for his very informative, frankly well written and to the point article.
