Corruption in gaming journalism discussion and update thread.
The same thing happens here when threads get out of hand (the Quinn thread) or when it comes to topics that will inevitably get out of hand (a brony thread would be immediately closed). It's hard to see some kind of conspiracy to suppress dissenting views when they're just conducting business the way most forums conduct business.
And I don't know if their comment section moderators are paid or not but I'm going to guess that they're just volunteers.
It was proved the /r/gaming section was modded by a friend of zoes so I don't know if that counts for anything.
there was also the time a few days ago luke plunkett posted a article on kotaku about this stuff then said "Ok say positive things or ill remove your comment"
Surprise: I am going to moderate the shit out of this discussion. Say something nice or don't say it at all.

Well causing a comments section isn't cherry picking anything since it stops the people who agree with you from commenting just as effectively as it stops the people who disagree.
But there's clearly more people who disagree. So they make a trade, realize that the general opinion is going to be against them, and because of that, decide to close down comments. It's a scummy move.
That's like if one person was corrupt, 1000 people called him out on it, and then the corrupt person shut down the comments and said "Well now nobody can discuss it so it's fair."
steam group
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/AgainstTheCensorship
People can still discuss it on other websites, on twitter, or on you know, the hundreds of various platforms that still exist for discussion even after one measly comments section has been closed down
come on guys i know there's been a lot to scream conspiracy at lately but sometimes closing a comment section is just not wanting to deal with that shit at the bottom of your article
and if a guy is saying 'say something nice or don't say it' then i'm fairly certain he's asking for civility, not specifically agreement
Now that stuff is getting even more convoluted:

So who fired him?
he was freelance so eurogamer and various other sites cut him off from ever doing freelance for them ever again.

*Probably.
(I know it's extremely likely, but they haven't issued a statement in that regard.)
Closing a comments section is not, and has never been, censorship. Nobody is obligated to give you a soapbox on their website. It's free to post things on the internet, PCGamesN is not censoring you because they are not preventing you from simply starting your own blog. Censorship is the systematic and coordinated suppression of ideals by an organization that is in a position to control the flow of information, not someone saying "this is my spot, say your things somewhere else".
Except that virtually every website that has this kind of article within the same tiny time period has closed down comments, but only after people started criticizing them in them, never before. Then when people take it to places like, say, Reddit, it gets censored there too. Then when some websites get emails criticizing the articles, the dudes in charge go to twitter and say "Hey look! This person asked to remain anonymous! Here is their email address and full name! Get her, people!" Seems pretty systematic to me. The only exception I can think of is Ars Technica not closing down comments yet. You say that it's fair for them to say "Say your things somewhere else," but they're trying to make sure that there are no other places to speak.
Edit: I've done some more looking into things and only about half of the sites I'm looking at have actively deleted comments to the best of my knowledge. It's not totally correct to say that there's a grand conspiracy to censor comments.

Good thing too, as this is the childishness we're trying to get out of journalism.

I'm just constantly shocked by the immaturity displayed everywhere
twitter is a way to directly and casually communicate with a consumer base, that doesn't mean you post like you're on facebook in high school with pop culture references and videos. you're supposed to be a professional, yet you're quoting a Commando scene in order to spite thousands of consumers?
Thank all you #GamerGate for giving us devs that aren't part of the cult towing the party lines a voice. Thank you @intenetaristocrat for your investigations, thank you 4chan, thanks reddit and tumblr. YOU GUYS are what make me proud to be part of this community. The difference between you and the people that bash you is they have no fucking principals all they care about is lining their own pockets no integrity or respect for this craft or your hobby. If gaming has gone to shit, they are just maggots crawling in the pile. FUCK @destructoid, FUCK @Kotaku FUCK @Gamasutra, FUCK all these limp dick devs, and chickenshit artists, FUCK this 24/7 internet spew of trivia and and e-celebrity bullshit!
Fuck social justice! Fuck the media! FUCK ALL OF IT! Gaming media is diseased, rotten to the core, there's no saving it we need to pull it out by the roots wipe the slate clean burn it down! From the ashes a new "gaming culture" will be born! Evolved but untamed! The weak will be purged! The strongest will thrive, free to game as they see fit. They'll make gaming GREAT AGAIN! People will develop and play what they WANT, not for money, not for hype, not for "art" not for what they are told is "right". Every gamer will be free to play/make their own games! Where a game is judged based on how fun it is, not someones bullshit philosophy. Where people realize communications degrees are the part of a philosophy degree that dripped down it's mothers ass crack and dried out they do NOT make you an expert or exempt from critique. Where talking about something as incredulous as sleeping your way to the top... mild notoriety while knocking others down doesn't have to be a fucking gender discussion! Where people actually offer products and services for money instead of begging all the time!
I'm getting beside myself thank you and I hope I can deliver great games and services to you in the future. We don't need these fuckheads.

Some of these gamers really do hold deeply sexist viewpoints, which makes writing what I’m writing now somewhat precarious. I am not an ally to misogynists, but I’m not impressed by many of their critics either.
But bad apples do not create an identity for an entire group of people, and critics and journalists who attempt to destroy a word in the name of politics are not furthering some noble goal, some cultural evolutionary step. As if by proclamation anyone could declare a word dead to begin with.
...But she’s doing it in a weird way—attacking the idea of being a gamer just because a minority of those people engage in harassment and misogyny. I’d be willing to bet that most gamers, most people who consider themselves gamers,
Ironically of the people that I've encountered who identify as feminists seem to get pissed off when you suggest we kill off the term feminism and use a term that's more inclusive that doesn't give misandrists ammunition.
Kind of makes think about reconsidering my stance on that one.
