"Don't judge the whole thing based on actions of a few" - sensible. When applied to media pieces - it's garbage.
A single writer is literally nothing in a sizable media piece. Writer of, say, Kotaku, or Gamasutra, or what have you has a level of creative freedom, that's understood. But they also have an editor, who watches over them and makes sure they stay in line. And when some shit gets published, you can't just say "oh that's that guy/girl, just ignore them and read other articles". Doesn't work like that.
And when multiple media pieces publish at the same time extremely similar articles with the same narrative - sorry, that's not "a bunch of individuals". That's an entire group of media pieces, and from that moment on you should view them as part of a certain "whole". When people say "gaming media is corrupt", they mean exactly that. Every other platform that isn't involved is ignored or named separately.
What is it, seems hypocritical that the same doesn't apply to GG? It shouldn't. There's no hypocrisy in it. GG has no editorials, no leaders, no force to keep members in line but common goal, common driving force. None of us get paid, none of us can get thrown out. When someone goes out of line and starts harassment campaign, sending threats, doxxing or what else - the only thing to do is for everyone else to distance from that.
Does GG distance itself from harassment campaigns?

Do gaming media sites distance themselves from those actively participating in anti-GG stance? Some do. But no one demands that. Those who aren't connected (or where such connection is yet to be discovered) to the issue are written off as neutral and no one has any problems with them.
That's the difference.
But why is the gradual sexualization of a fictional character a topic that the whole of feminism needs to battle, as opposed to actual inequality happening in reality?
Because these "feminists" (notice the quote marks) are just bored people. That and the fear of sex. Hence why they keep throwing the "sexism" word despite it has absolutely nothing to do with it.
I have yet to see a real proof of true sexism inside the gaming industry.
And people who get frustrated of fictional characters having generous assets and skimpy clothings should stop being so sensitive and hypocritical.

does anita's producer even know what a video game is at this point
Judging from Anita's videos, evidently not.
It has been apparent that those people know fuck all about video-games. Exposing it, however, has always warranted "not a gamer argument lmao" response.
This thread isn't a commentary on Sark and her vidseries, let's stay on topic. Can't switch subjects just because what we're here for is on the low right now.

we all know that game reviewers are bad at video games, of course they have to play on casual
i think strictly people who are good at video games should review them. because people good at them actually know what they're talking about.
[editline]13th October 2014[/editline]
all games i ever review will be played on the hardest difficulty, the way it's intended to be played.
He could have saved himself there by admitting his mistake instead of trying to hide it.
some games hide the hardest difficulty behind unlock barriers, and there are even a few which consider their hardest difficulty to NOT be the way it was intended to be played. See Doom 1&2, which directly advises against playing on Nightmare as it is 'unfair' (and indeed, very few people actually do play on Nightmare, because it's intentionally made to be bullshit).
you should play on whatever is the "normal" difficulty unless a developer otherwise says the hardest difficulty is the intended mode of play. Normal is the best baseline.
I mean the hardest immediately available
[editline]13th October 2014[/editline]
In modern games anyway, modern games don't have an 'unwinnable' difficulty anymore, and even when they try, it's still usually too easy.
Even better, ask the fans if he actually missed anything. The review isn't set in stone, and site-goers will appreciate the transparency.
It's good that games got easier, but at the same time, losing the harder difficulties hurts the old crowd. So it's inclusive but not really?
Its becoming more sexual as stations like HBO take riskier and riskier movements forwards.
Don't you mean, "thrusts forward?" :v:

Payday 2 would like a word with you. Deathwish difficulty was tacked on months later and is practically impossible without knowing exactly what you're doing. The game wasn't designed for that difficulty, and it suffers as a result.
Same for Skyrim's legendary difficulty which is only a flat damage multiplier. It becomes a grindfest and a game of "spot the exploit" so you don't die immediately for every fight.
Point is that some games are genuinely worse on hardest difficulty, and for some game the hardest difficulty is tacked on after development is over and is never really intended to be functional.
I have had games that were harder to play on easy than on normal, but thats just me :v:.
I remember that Deus Ex is easier on the hardest difficulty because it makes locational damage way more important. If you can aim for the head everyone goes down in one shot where they normally just soak up damage.

Sounds like Metro 2033. The devs should have just renamed "Difficulty" to "Bullet Damage".

Talk about exaggerated sexualization? Check.
BLATANT OVER-SEXUALIZATION sentence? Check. Yep, GJ Polygon. Keep it coming.
Yeah, Boogie is losing his shit on Twitter over that:

If the reviewers know anything about the games, they'll figure this stuff out though and change the difficulty accordingly. The problem is that they don't know anything about them, and they're bad at them to begin with.
[editline]14th October 2014[/editline]
If you and I can figure that stuff out with games, because we've been playing them all our lives and love them, the people rating them should too. That's a standard they should be held to.

Underrated post. It feels like most reviewers at the major publications today play games for the social commentary alone, the gameplay discussion is almost always shallow as fuck.
So, you guys already mentioned this, but how about doing a Google Hangout on Gamergate? We just need like 6 or 7 people, topics to focus on (maybe posted in this thread/chat?) and a time and date.
I have a question .. that 'operations document' (http://gamergate.rogue-star-industries.com/) .. the wording makes me feel uneasy and I wonder it's merits. Is that a good mentality to have(The archive's)?

False. The only thing DX1's hardest difficulty does is increase the damage multiplier for the player. Everything else is the same.

Well, it does something different. Realistic, the supposed hardest difficulty, is easier than Hard for most people.

Sounds like someone wants to get into Jonathan McIntosh's pants.
it's ok. gamespot gave bayonetta a literal 10/10.

edit: btw, king of pol having a stream. community manager of exon (maplestory, divinity) came on and said a few things
1. they're mostly pro-gg. anyone at the office who isnt just doesnt care/isnt paying attention, they're not even anti
2. dina from mn9 shouldnt even have a job. thought it was pretty funny that her twitter handle is something really unprofessional, "petite mistress"
3. he's been asked by reviewers "why am i here?" and "so do you want us to pay someone to LP it or...?" when showing off their games
Sometimes I wonder if the shills are really shills.
Like I actually know people who say this type of shit about Anita

I cant tell if that's supposed to be a joke anymore.
jim stirling just talked about possibly leaving escapist.
good. go be a cunt somewhere else.
Oh man catching up on this thread is always a chore. Worth it though, because of all the bombs that drop. TotalBiscuit formally throwing his top hat with #GG, that stuff with Wu and the forced Oppressed Gamergater meme blowing up in their faces.
Oh, and apparently Nexon (MapleStory, Combat Arms, CS:Nexon) is confirmed Pro-GG.
