MSNBC, just keep digging your grave.
AGG have a huge issue with actually sitting down and talking things out in an indepth and reasonable manner because that's when their arguments begin to break down. Most of them are hanging around on twitter because it gives them the ability to get their points across in sparse, easy to digest sentences while keeping their opponents at the same level. Vulgarity is basically a weapon for them to use in order to deflect actual discussion and subsequently losing the debate if they even try to get involved in one.
Don't forget that they can easily block people who oppose them.
At least for me, that roller coaster has been going into one direction for a while now Especially now after seeing just how much shit people like Boogie2988 are getting for their message of "let's try to solve this thing with kindness, common sense, decency and love" I'm really nearing the point where "let them all burn, I don't care anymore, stop talking politics, where are my games" is a more attractive viewpoint than "let's stop throwing shit at each other and try to talk this out this like adults" and that's sad as hell
just go play some video games, it's what im doing on the other screen while im browsing this. Its up to the individual how interested they are in trying to promote the subject or whatever. I've had some good discussions on reddit (/r/pcgaming) with anti-gg people who were civil with me. Even convinced one. Just stay away from twitter sans twitlonger or something and stick to places you can actually voice a fleshed out viewpoint.
I don't think gamergate's going to go far anymore. The discussion is so polarized, and people on either side, the extremists of both sides have created so much animosity that it's hard for there to be any way for either group to talk to each other without yelling 'Fuck off'. maybe i'm just getting disheartened
are you crazy? after this msnbc thing once again the fire has been fueled in a huge way. Just go play video games, theres not really a ton an individual can do without extra dedication anyways. Just voice your disagreement civilly when someone brings it up.
jim stirling just talked about possibly leaving escapist. good. go be a cunt somewhere else.
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/zapD5sy.png[/thumb] Maybe Polygon will hire him after he's fired
I have heard people say this type of thing since like the first week, yet it just keeps going.
I know and I've seen it too but I got caught up in a discussion with AGGers, and when a group of em gangbang you with group think and mindless rhetoric, it's pretty hard to think that there's still a crowd of reasonable people in the middle waiting for a good argument to get to them. People are too embroiled and too much hatred and death threats have amassed under GG, though it's true there's as many under the AGG banner, it's just that no one cares or covers it. The mentality moviebob expressed there in that tweet is exactly how most people feel. It's fucked.

There was some daily or ever other day youtube series by some woman recapping GG events, right? Anybody know if that's good for easily staying updated or do they gloss over a lot of things?
I have heard people say this type of thing since like the first week, yet it just keeps going.
I think he's referring to it not looking like it'll do a lot of good changes. GG itself will probably be going on for a long time and turn into an even more sour affair
Jim Sterling was always kinda crappy imo, his whole comedic shtick of pretending to be stuck up and pretending to be self-centered would work alright in a cartoon but his whole show was live action. When you format your own personal 'it's all about me and my viewpoint' show with a personality -- fake or otherwise -- like that, it just comes off like you REALLY LEGITIMATELY are that stuck up, you're just overplaying it to make it seem like you're pretending for humorous effect. In other words I never found him funny and his shtick was never humorous but that's just me. I don't know anything else he did beyond his whatever show on The Escapist, so.
I've liked him since he worked at Destuctoid. We shared a lot of same opinions, game tastes, and he was one of the few people who really didn't let companies shit just play out. A lot of people thought he was trolly but there was a pretty fine line between when he was trolling and when he was serious. He was the main reason I listened to Dtoid's podcasts. Now, like many of the people who I used to respect before all this Gamer Gate stuff started, I'm really quickly losing respect for him because it seems like he's now defending the crap we're trying to out.
reid report on gamergate
Coincidentally I just saw this as I was leaving college today. For a moment, I almost hoped that it'd be a neutral, informative broadcast. Then I remembered that this is the reid report.
http://recode.net/author/eric-johnson/ the guy that was on the show. Re/code is a CNBC partner site. hmmMMMM
So, you guys already mentioned this, but how about doing a Google Hangout on Gamergate? We just need like 6 or 7 people, topics to focus on (maybe posted in this thread/chat?) and a time and date.
Yes I would try to host it, but my connection is lossy (something with the router and my machine) . So I could be apart of it when it happens.
Having played the game is optional for reviewing it.
You have no idea how true that is.
people actually listen to tv news still? i guess its a case of tv media trying to stay relevant but fucking up badly. [editline]13th October 2014[/editline] also this http://i.imgur.com/SZiCJ37.jpg

Remember hearing this type of shit ALL the time? Then just remember how full of shit you thought those people were, these loud pieces of shit. Thats what most of those people are. Loud but very tiny and most people know they are full of shit. That MSNBC shit today is a perfect example, the amount of people that saw that and just figured they were full of shit, once again, and just pass them off. ] People like Anita dont have a large following, they are just heard because of how loud they are, most people do not follow her or give a shit.
Apparently there's an article about Brianna Wu on giantbomb now, guess the calling out on TV woke Klepek
I think we need people like Jim Sterling. I think we need people who can discuss the issue on a place like the Escapist who can play the opposite side. I don't think he's "in" on all of this, there's no evidence of that. I think he believes that something isn't right. I think he's needed for the sake of open discourse.
I think we need people like Jim Sterling.
nah. he's a cunt. unless you mean someone who is loud, jim was not loud and didnt say anything new, ever.
Apparently there's an article about Brianna Wu on giantbomb now, guess the calling out on TV woke Klepek
It's just another crappy article about the harassment etc etc etc.
rationalwiki made a gamergate article its very bad http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Gamergate

Its proponents claim that it is a grassroots backlash against corruption in video game journalism and negative stereotyping of gamers, but, in actuality, it is a targeted harassment campaign by angry dudebro types against prominent feminist women and their supporters in the gaming community.
Do people really do this? Go on the internet and tell lies?
Dudebro. Fucking Dudebro.
Apparently there's an article about Brianna Wu on giantbomb now, guess the calling out on TV woke Klepek
depressed [t]https://33.media.tumblr.com/de75664b2a544bde954d1276a441890f/tumblr_ndeijqKAUm1rl7sfmo1_1280.png[/t] i figured giant bomb wouldn't take a side on this gg thing but with patrick klepek's latest article, i knew i had to contact him about his falsities, and come at him AS A FAN, before i ultimately outright boycott giant bomb, my favorite video game site. throughout all of #gamergate, this is what will break me. i still retain jeff gerstmann is based but if he was, he wouldn't allow such shit reporting on this site.
rationalwiki made a gamergate article its very bad http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Gamergate
Rationalwiki was a joke and is now showing everyone it still is.
I'm still mad about the dudebro. You claim to be a rational wiki and use an ad hominem in your wiki page about a movement. YOU USED AN AD HOMINEM IN THE RATIONAL WIKI. YOU AIN'T RATIONAL BITCH.
The fact that this issue was on MSNBC means various other television networks will want to cover it. And various other networks will be interested in picking apart all the different angles, because more angles means more drama, which means more news coverage that can attract viewers. Remember too that there are many in the industry effectively silenced by Leigh Alexander and others. The latter are controlling the narrative and holding the strings, and only certain people are effectively allowed to talk. People with complaints about the industry won't be. So all you need is for the pressure to ease, and various developers can come out and discuss their experiences without fear of repercussions. And I feel national outlets might give developers the opportunity/push they need to come out. Like Mattk50 said above, the fire has been fueled in a huge way. The fact that GG is now hitting national coverage is a big deal. And the narrative currently discussed on MSNBC is largely reactionary: it is literally a reaction to the current doxxing incident and is mostly geared around that. There is not going to be a lot of nuance yet, although I'm positive there will be. Just expect this week to have a lot of national coverage. That's my feeling, at least.
Fucking, I ain't a conservative. In fact I'm a socialist with left leanings. I support things that generally liberals would support. And I know FOX news is a conservative channel, and I know there's always been leanings in the media for both. But my god I never actually thought I'd actually have the idea in my head that somehow...Conservatives were fucking right and that the left does actually control the media. I never actually thought of the day I'd side with conservatives and tell MSNBC and liberals to go fuck right off a cliff.
It's not a case of liberals controlling the media, it's a case of major corporations controlling the narratives put forward. Even a liberal corporation is still a corporation.
That still doesn't put my brain at ease.

Particularly in the United States, there isn't a whole lot of "leftist" media. MSNBC are cheerleaders for the Democrats who occasionally swing to the left but have become by and large the party of the Washington establishment. CNN merely forwards viewers the talking points of either party and has next to no journalistic integrity, and Fox News (the largest news corporation ie the one with the most control) appeals to reactionary far-right anti-government types.
