Shots are being fired on KingofPol.
People like Anita Sarkeesian call themselves feminist, but are actually slut-shaming by saying that sexy clothing and sexy female characters are a bad thing in video games.
im fucking dying, WU was bitching about DICE's euro branch. She fucking linked a fruit company who was like, "i dont understand, but do you want some bananas?"

God dammit RPi, you're not even involved in games or anything. What are you up to.

I believe I've read some lengthy article somewhere that explained that sort of stuff. Don't remember where, but it was something about how women shouldn't be "slut-shamed" because they can do what they want and shouldn't be judged in society based on her looks or sexual behavior, and when it comes to women characters in media, it's different. You see, media is a male-dominated field, so it only serves male interests, and when a female character is shown as "slutty" (which means anything between "short skirt" and "actual whore"), it's pandering to creators and male audience. Which is the whole point of concept of "objectification".
In short:
women are not created by dirty men and can do what they want;
female characters in media are created by dirty men (or internalized misogynists), have no personality of their own (which is a given) and as such, should abide by some... ruleset or whatever.
Doesn't sound all that convincing to me, but here goes. My take on the issue, based on shit I barely remember.
Sorry if this clogs up the thread, but keeping up with all this is leaving me exhausted. Whenever I go on twitter, it's just a stream of things that get me flared up. I've been Pro-gg, and will remain that way, because I believe the industry as a whole needs a fundamental change. But everyday it's a new thing for me to get frustrated about. I love video games, and I want nothing more than to be a part of it somehow.
Sorry for my negativity, but I need something to bounce my thoughts off of.
This whole thing really goes to show how rationality can be just flat out brow beaten by harnessing the power of ignorance and emotion.
Do most peoples minds really work that way? Their thought processes must be so weird...
Cool. Because on it's own that phrase seems really stupid. "I don't meant to interrupt you" - great, shut up then?
thousands of bots unite under a single banner against muhsogyny
Eat shit Kotaku. How does that ad revenue work out for ya. Maybe we're going down, but you're already there, waiting for us. You just don't know it yet.
Thousands. Uh...have they seen the number for Gamergate? Pretty sure we eclipse them.

The problem is that they're making the character purely a projection of someone's beliefs instead of having their own personality. Something like a small bikini on a female character would work well in a world inspired by Conan the Barbarian or John Carter of Mars, becaue even the guys are running around with a small loincloth in those stories. A woman in a dress or "realistic armor" would be very, very out of place in it.
And frankly, if a character wants to show off their boobs or butt, who cares? Women walk around with cleavage and hotpants all the time, so why can't fictional characters show some skin as well? If someone wants to whack off to it, no big deal. There are creeps that take candid pictures of women to whack off to; does that mean we should ban any sort of revealing outfit to save women from the male gaze?

I'd suggest you avoid the toxicity that can take place in 140 characters or less on Twitter. As tempting as it may be to check up on things, don't dive right back into it if it's causing you strife. It's something that I'd recommend most people avoid unless they are composed enough to keep calm even amidst the mounds of toxic behavior.
Also, remember that as a consumer you can speak with your wallet. Avoid sites that are known to be corrupt and try to refrain from purchasing games from developers who are in close ties with the press. Do your research before making purchases and so on. Overall, just try to keep an honest gaming experience for yourself and spread games that you genuinely find enjoyable to your peers.
There's not much that AGG-minded people can do about someone's honesty and don't let anyone try to convince you that you're a horrible person for having enjoyed a game experience. You love videogames, let your love thrive.

i remember it saying literally NO WHERE that the threat was GG based. and not even that, fucking GG people have gotten assloads of death threats and lost their jobs, but no they are just haters so they deserved it.

Pffft that would be fucking generous on a good day when someone actually acknowledges the fact that GGers receive threats. Most times it's just ignored. We're the only ones who talk about it, other side is way too far up their asses to say anything. No one harasses GG. Doesn't happen.

If you think that you're in a position that's even remotely comparable to post-WW1 Germany, you're horribly mistaken.

The IS bots in particular are somewhat likely to just spam topics that are already trending though, without payment.

They're right to complain and since one of the threats was allegedly from gg they can pin it on gg.
This is the end result of getting too big. If we only had moderate, reasonable people we'd be too small, drowned out in the sea of backlash.
At this size though we've just filled in the ranks with our own reactionary idiots against their public figures.
Jesus Christ, I want a downloadable version of this KingofPol stream after it's done. They've got an anonymous video game dude on and he's given out insider views on Simcity, Megaman, rushed sequels in general, Mass Effect, EA games, Metroid Prime, Japanese markets and companies compared to American ones, Nintendo... pretty much everything. Not all of it is related directly to GG, but it's a hell of an interesting info dump.
The IS bots in particular are somewhat likely to just spam topics that are already trending though, without payment.
Strange that they didn't latch on to the #gamergate tag given how many times it's trended.

It's comparable but in the sense really bad to somewhat bad. If I sounded like I was making a 1 to 1 comparison, that wasn't my intention, but in the silicone valley sense the last recession depending who you work for you job isn't all secure (except places like google). With that said, people who are frustrated and want to blame forces out of their control tend to sway towards appeal to emotion.
Also in part I didn't present in any of my comments here I had someone say to me who's in the gaming journalism area (he says he's just a critic who reviews) that the gaming industry is recession proof.
American Corporate approved Marketese™
From what I saw he's programmed to say such things however I feel he's been given propaganda and he's a little confused.
I saw the TB tiwterlong in the podcast so I hope if he keeps allowing people like the three women. If I could advise him that he should interview people then give a debate environment, a TB interview or with IGF in interview what's his name that made supermeatboy and binding of isaac.

It's supposed to be used for when the speaker has something they forgot to mention and they are interjecting into the other person's speech to clarify or finish something.
Most of the time though it's just a polite way of saying 'you're saying something that I should immediately address' as rude as that may be, instead of waiting until after the person is done talking.

I don't know how many times people have to hear "We don't condone these threats, we can't stop them from using our hashtag".
Upon reading a tweet it takes about 2 seconds to identify whether the poster is a douchebag or someone worth listening to - so why not talk to the people worth listening to if you see them?
This whole thing about "GamerGaters are all misogynists" or "you're a terrible person for sharing a hashtag with misogynists" only serves to antagonise reasonable people and enrage the trolls even more. It's frustrating.
Guys, cut him some slack. You realize he had to act like this, right? If he had given his 2 cents the table would not be stable enough to continue conversing on it. It would have just ended there. He said that he wants to keep doing this, after it was done.
edit: to clarify i was talking about the reporter not milkandcooki

You clearly haven't watched network news recently.
slack
I suggest you look at his post history extensively here before coming to a conclusion, it's a pretty straightforward pattern of passive-aggressive posting with little interest in topic exploration in any meaningful way.
It's a long term problem that's developed with condemning people. The movement associated itself with being against doxxing because it was much smaller then and the opposition was legitimately doxxing more often.
But now because it's become so big, people are exploiting the crap out of their anonymity and becoming an uncontrollable mess.
There's no point in condemning the doxxing anymore because it just makes us look like hypocrites, it's a matter of just pushing through until we get results.
You clearly haven't watched network news recently.
No, because it's garbage, and using network news 'debates' as an indicator for how the English language is and should be used is a terrible idea.

I haven't watched TV in my own house for years now that I think of it. It's always been terrible.
