Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but it seems like their attempts to distract from the issue and protect themselves have been effective. Funny given a few weeks ago I was talking about how this whole fiasco with journalists acting objectively poorly and unprofessionally would immunise people to the kind of tricks they use. Should've known better given they're derivations of tricks people have used in politics for decades.

I agree. Pay close attention to how these journalists talk about gamers, especially when the insults become very personal. A lot of it is journalists projecting themselves onto gamers. That's, at least, what industry folks have told me in the past few weeks.
