That's what the author of the article does anyway. From her twitter:https://twitter.com/laura_hudson/status/510926704546971648
"hung out" my ass.
Let me ask you something, Laura. You support a movement that's against harassment of women. You preach that we should listen to those who have been harassed or abused. But when an ex-boyfriend talks about his abusive relationship then that's a "smear campaign"? Are you fucking serious? The constant double standards are infuriating me.
I could go on for fucking hours about this, but hey, we're having a live stream on saturday. So I'll try to save it for that.
This movement is gonna last long enough for someone to make a "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" parody in December.
Considering anti-GG's demographics, I think "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas" would work better.
So, this thread has been going on for 8000 posts now, in addition to the stuff from the sensationalist headlines thread that was locked a while back. Anyone expect it to last this long?
It's kind of sad really. Had every website just out there even the simplest of ethical standards in place, or even just ignored it, it would have never become as big as it has.
In my eyes, GG is timeless, while its a movement now, its already so big that journalism ethics will always be watched like hawks and the ideals behind GG will always exist in gaming.
Plus this is kind of a strange movement, its nearly 100% internet related and takes place ON the internet.
We arent in the streets, we dont need to make signs and protest, all we do is need to tell the truth and expose the bullshit.
Thats why it cant end, we dont need the effort to gain in mass in the streets, we are already ALL connected all at once at all times because this is a battle on the internet, not in the streets or a country.
Honestly, does someone know of anything similar happening that got this big that is purely a movement on the internet? It seems like this is a new age thing and this is the first, but this could be due to my ignorance.
Also, everything is essentially immortal with no hopes of being 100% deleted, what people say ends up being permanent and something you can always point to extremely easily.

Can someone please give me an update on gamergate stuff? After reading some news articles on google and subscribing to google alerts about gamergate, now my mind is officially really twisted up. Is gamergate good, bad, or both because it is so broad so part of it is bad and part of it is good at the same time? Should I support gamergate or not?

But males hold institutional power over women and abuse is harassment + power. Only women are capable of being abused.
Gotta love y=x+power equations, where y is a bad thing, x is also a bad thing.

Anyone who liked The Onion on Facebook (!) had this article show up in their timeline.

Fuckers arguing in bad faith, again. You'd think satire sites would be capable of critical thinking.
We would hasten to add, before our Twitter feed is turned into a hellish garbage dump for the worst discussion ever conducted on the internet, that these women driven from their homes, these journalists targeted by hate campaigns, and these websites financially punished for their dissent are all unfortunate victims of a few fringe individuals within Gamergate. That these are the movement’s only tangible achievements so far does not change the fact that this is, at its core, a concerned community dedicated to having a reasonable discussion about ethics in journalism.
Yeah, that's right, horrible things that weren't even reasonably linked to it are actual achievements of Gamergate. That they donated 70K to a charity promoting female devs, though? Psh, intangible! We would have heard about it! No mention of changes in The Escapist's policies, either. I guess that wouldn't have been as "funny" if they did.

gamergate is the name of the scandal. it's a consumer revolt against bad gaming journalist sites such as kotaku, polygon, gamasutra, and kotaku's father site gawker (not video game exclusive) (among many others!). it started when people investigated the male journalists that were accused of sleeping with female devs to give their games better coverage, and we found out that there was collusion among journalist sites that should be competing with eachother in order to get people fired, to blacklist devs, and to whitelist devs because of an agenda.. the movement's mission right now is to email advertisers about articles and tweets made by journalists from these sites that express hatred towards their own readers ("gamers are dead" articles and "pro-bullying" tweets) so that advertisers pull out from giving these websites ad revenue.
being "pro-gg" is short-hand for "standing up for journalistic ethics and integrity".
That article is carefully written to bait out backlash and criticism, and use that to prove its point, cause hey guys, it was just satire, right?

Seems like so, on the second stream with the three pro-GG women he also backpedaled like hell claiming he had to ask only loaded questions because otherwise the opposition wouldn't be represented (as if it didn't get enough representation already).
But now that he is on Twitter he just plainly behaves like a child.
Gawker has published another hit piece. But this one is... special. They've decided that Wizardchan is an enemy, and have decided to go after it.
You know, the forum of depressed virgins that try to talk each other into going on with life and have links to suicide prevention centers on their front page.
The ones who made the Escapist change their fact checking policies, so something as terrible as accidentally attacking them would never happen again.
The ones so sensitive that they requested that their name not even be brought up in the Escapist's public apology to them, because they no longer want attention from anyone for any reason.
Stop. The. Bullying.

I find it funny how Disrespectful Nod ended up being a campaign highlighting how journalists who claimed to have moral high ground actually don't have any respect for others.

It seems to come off that way, anyways. I can't tell. It's satirical on both sides..

The ad hominem failed, let's try again together with guilt by association!
:suicide:
If anyone was interested, by the way, I put together a pastebin of all the bullshit that I've been going through from SRS:

They're trying to call me a.) proGG, and b.) abusive/obsessive on twitter, so I decided, "fuck it, I'm going to publish everything I compiled"

And here I thought they were already in the Barganing phase. Guess Gawker is a bit behind.
Also, imagine if Breitbart published an article like this, only about Gawker sites
Well, now you've got more to send to advertisers and in general to show how they really are if you're going to go for that.

it attacks all sides (which is how satire works). It also shows the onion of all places is actually looking on both sides equally, which is something most journalism places haven't done yet

Do Jezebel still have that article about how much they beat their spouses?
Friendly reminder to not refer to ourselves as GGers or Gamergaters. We're not some club. GamerGate is just the name of the scandal and we are just gamers using a hashtag [sp]and sending e-mails.[/sp]
