Oh the US justice system. I'm glad it's a lot different here, stuff like running out of money like that doesn't happen quite as much here (and even then most people have legal insurance afaik). Well, in this case I suppose they could hold out to the last instance and would still lose, since a lawsuit would seems justified (if not necessarily entirely warranted... then again there's no stopping those people otherwise). [editline]edit[/editline] Wouldn't the criminal case be run by a prosecutor though? It would be extremely strange if a criminal and civil case were conflated like this, coming from a country civil law. Here the civil case (for damages) only starts after the criminal one is through with a guilty verdict. (I suppose the lawyer could supply evidence though.)
It will start as criminal case with very strict guidelines and a prosecutor, yes. The prosecutor will have to prove malicious intent and proof of misuse of civil infrastructure. (Kind of goes without saying he already has a very strong case, roflmao) It also counts as an internet crime, which in this case will likely carry federal charges because of the nature of the (fake) complaint lodged. Because of other tweets concerning him that are archived, Cernovich's lawyer may also get this tagged as a hate crime, which California deals with very seriously compared to most places aside from New York, Massachusetts, Washington and Oregon, though that one is dubious. The civil one will start after the criminal one, yes, and though the verdict is NOT supposed to matter, it will, because it goes directly to intent, opportunity and motive, and since Lulzradio and Caroline rather incredulously used their base accounts at the [archived] written behest of Quinn, the FBI will subpoena all three electronic devices and emails thereof. The verdict not mattering is the main issue, all the civil suit has to prove is culpability of either malice or willful misconduct, which again, is literally all there in vetted and archived screenshots, and is literally a cut and dried case. So basically IF he gets this thing to court, they are likely to have rather an unpleasant string of months ahead of them.

For the people running things through archive.today: please be sure to do so through the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine at http://web.archive.org as well. Single-page archival will be on the lower right of your screen. The more copies of pages, the better. If it's a bunch of pages, and you believe it'll be way too much work to enter in each URL, feel free to PM me and I'll make sure things get in within a week or two. LW Post is already in - I already dumped it before the GG hashtag was even a thing.

I've almost blown a gasket when a few of my favorite webcomics ended-up making anti-GG posts on their websites. Then they mostly link to articles like this: http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-intersect/wp/2014/10/14/the-only-guide-to-gamergate-you-will-ever-need-to-read/ Or this: http://www.cracked.com/blog/7-ways-gamergate-debate-has-made-world-worse/ I think I'm having an aneurysm. It's like they don't even bother doing proper research, just a quick google search. Fucking hell, I really like their comic but I've never been more conflicted in my entire life. This is pissing me off so much.

It's still a beautiful tapestry of miraculous workmanship, but that stain is real, and I'm afraid Hitler and Nazism have stained Wagner. For some people that stain ruins the whole work; for others, it's just something you have to face up to."
It's possible to enjoy the art and hate everything the artist stands for. Wagner was a terrible bigot, an antisemite whose works became linked with Nazism. Fry is a Jew whose family members perished in Auschwitz. He thinks that Wagner's music is the most beautiful music he's ever heard. Food for thought.

I'll keep reading them. It's just a reminder that GamerGate may have won the debate, but that victory has mostly been ignored by mainstream media and is still misleading a lot of people because of it.

People telling people what to think without the remotest attention to context. You have the right to examine the art as you wish, and if you are conflicted, decide the best course of action externally.
William Usher (#GameJournoPros leaker) speaks out http://apgnation.com/archives/2014/09/29/7694/breaking-the-chain-an-interview-with-william-usher

APGNation: How do you feel the support of individuals such as Adam Baldwin and Milo Yiannopoulos have impacted #GamerGate? What advice do you have for supporters of #GamerGate to get their message heard? WU: As a gamer, I’m extremely grateful that we have such prominent individuals as Adam Baldwin, Milo Yiannopoulos and Dr. Christina H. Sommers standing up on behalf of #GamerGate. Without such figureheads the movement wouldn’t have had enough credibility on its own to maintain solvency. While #GamerGate itself is leaderless, the figureheads help maintain a strong morale boost. It’s easy for the average person to feel helpless and voiceless when being attacked by the media. However, individuals with strong public appeal can help mitigate some of the tension and pressure that the media tried dumping on the movement, which is a good thing. The best way to help spread the word is to take #GamerGate to the gaming communities who don’t know what’s going on. One way or another, the end-results will have an affect on the industry in the long run and it’s important gamers are at least made aware of what’s going. It’s unlikely active gamers wouldn’t want to support #GamerGate if they only knew about it. Funny that the censorship and one-sided stories help suppress #GamerGate from getting out there.
Cool, someone shares my thoughts.

Food for thought.
Actually, fun fact: Wagner was probably anti-Semitic to some extent, but only as much as any other non-Jew would be in that time period. When he died, his sister (a legit Nazi-level anti-Semite) fucked with his journal, took things out of context and even made stuff up, all to try and make it seem like he had agreed with her during life. This then became the accepted life of Wagner, which honestly is really fucking sad. [editline]25th October 2014[/editline] Also, loving how many of the people supporting this #OpGamergate shit are using words like 'lulz'. Are they stuck in 2006?

No she's still equating masculinity to the drive that causes people to go on mass shootings. Which is offensively deluded. If you can replace 'masculinity' with 'femininity', and have the sentence appear really sexist, it was sexist in the first place.

Sarkeesian has lost so much of my respect for her that, no, I do think she means this as a 'men are evil' kind of thing. For example, I started reading a story on a site that my story is on, and because it was so full of basic, elementary-grade mistakes, I thought the author was an idiot. So when he wrote that a female character invited a guy over after knowing him for a day and started to blow him, I didn't trust that the author had the maturity and talent to get away with a sexist beginning. It's the same thing with Sarkeesian. Her research has so many holes and so many cherry-picked details that I don't trust she has the maturity to realize the problem isn't men, but how men are raised.
Politicians and religious clerics were laughed at for saying the same thing while citing from conducted studies from renowned academia 10 years ago. Remember that guy I posted a while ago that said Vivian was the mascot of #Notyourshield? Apparently 90% of what he knows about GG comes from here: http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Gamergate It's a fun read, I'll tell you that much.
Jesus christ look at the footnotes cited. :v:
The whole wiki is a disgusting cesspool full of lies and thinly-veiled attacks on various communities, specially those based on pseudo-science. It's a circlejerk that does nothing but prove that the bigoted, condescending atheist stereotype is, to an extent, true.
How is the Gawker-bingo game looking as of right now?

"Ideas of toxic masculinity in our culture" might mean "masculinity is the problem" as well as "society that enforces masculine behaviour is the problem". Reversibly it is enforced femininity rather than femininity that causes problems for women.
