Boogie needs to stay [u]far away[/u] from mainstream media, anything he says about something that's even slightly controversial is a total trainwreck, as usual. At least it seems he's self-aware enough to not go there, if I read that thread correctly. He seems nice but his PR-sense is so incredibly lacking I get vicariously embarrassed whenever he talks about something like this. [editline]edit[/editline] I think the problem/pattern is this: Whenever something happens, he makes it about the people and then tries to take a middle ground instead of staying neutral. Even if that people-centric middle ground is basically a huge abyss like in this case. TotalBuiscuit is far better at handling this kind of situation (nowadays), he just talks about concepts and can move freely along all axes independently for that reason. (And also doesn't end up (getting anyone) dogpiled with that, which seems to be the main reason he does it. Being more or less impervious to truthful criticism is a nice side-effect, I probably should keep that in mind too...) It doesn't help that Boogie is not a good public speaker, if he was much better at it I think he could make his position work somehow. That would require the rhetorical equivalent of walking a tightrope though.

The entirety of Jonathan McIntosh's ideology has never received good press, or any press at all for that matter. It was only the part that Anita Sarkeesian talked about, the part that concerns sexual content, that received media attention. Anita didn't really attack violent video games, in fact some of her public appearances kind of suggested she was fine with them, or at least tolerated them. Jonathan never stood a chance at having his stance against violence in video games get positive press, because it's [I]way too fucking extreme[/I]. Hardly anybody can afford to cut a significant amount of violence out of their games because the losses would be astronomical. Some of the largest companies in the industry would have to completely start over because nothing they have would work anymore. Supporting this side of Feminist Frequency would more or less be declaring war on just about everyone who isn't an indie developer.
