Good God, this is now a segment on the actual propper BBC news channel (regular slots on BBC1 and BBC News 24). An interview with Zoe Quinn and a journalist (whom he works for I didn't see).
Holy shit, now I haven't been too invested in this before, but the fact that they soley focused on the harrassment (which is being condemned by pro-GG) is not something I expected from the BBC. It was just shocking to see her start tearing up during the interview after talking about harrasslemt and replying to the question of "Has this brought up anything relavent about Games Journalism" with a laugh and a "No". It was then never brought up again.
Good grief, now I know what it feels like to see such a massive discord between what's reported and what I've seen.
That's the main reason I like TB. Like him or not, the man doesn't bullshit you. I appreciate his honesty in an industry where lying and misinformation are considered tools of the trade.
One doesn't get his reputation of being brutally honest without being brutally honest.
Though real brutal honestly would be to tell Tortilla that he is a hack with no integrity and should be thrown out of the industry for impersonating everything wrong with it. But I can see that being kinda unproductive.

First to post, it's how the news works now.
the last bit is like a mccarthy list.
To be honest she did hop on the bandwagon in abstract way then be at the center of it, rather get other people who he called to but not disagreeing with your statement.
After she appeared on Colbert, she's probably going to be the one everyone in the anti-gg camp pays attention to (if they weren't already). If she can be willing to have an open discussion with TB, it could open the floodgates, turn the tide, change the narrative, whatever the fuck you want to call it.
I'm going to be honest here, there is no "winning" GamerGate, no matter what happens. The best we can hope for is a compromise, and I don't think compromise should be considered a dirty term (at least not in this context). There is a way to satisfy both sides, call out the bullshit on both sides, and I think TB is working towards that. Getting the ear of Anita would certainly be a huge step towards solving the problem, though again, if what I've seen about McIntosh is any indication it would probably never happen.

Welcome to my world. We report on things the way our audience would expect. Truth be damned. In fact, many consider reporting objectively to be impossible and counter-productive, so instead journalists should concentrate on doing what is right as opposed to doing what is true.

1:44 - oh what is it, Zoey? Some people think you should own up to your own actions and accept responsibility and consequences? Oh horror.
Crocodile tears are just too real man, I can't handle it.
[sp]jesus some people really go long ways to give their extremely plain appearance some extra "personality"[/sp]
Part of me is wondering how things would play out if John Oliver covered this on Last Week Tonight. The rest of me thinks it'd rather not know.
Still, considering last night, I think it's inevitable. I just hope Oliver's research team is as good as I've heard.

I think one problem is that, like he said, he isn't there to argue with them if they don't create discourse out of it, and Anita is going to be the last person to have discourse. If TB did a cast with her, it would just be another platform for her shitty ideas.
BTW BBC is going to make another article on the pro-gg side of things

Eh, I know. I'm just getting a little too optimistic in light of the Totilo interview. TB's also been in an interview with David Pakman, the video should be up later this afternoon.

That's actually another problem for mainstream media. It's very easy to find people who would represent A-GG, but who to go to for GG's side of things? Just further skews the perspective and creates an image of unorganized mob attacking people.
Just checked the twitter of the journalist who did that BBC interview - apparently he's going to be interviewing some Pro-GG people soon. Which is nice, because he seems to want some kind of neutrality.

welp guess I'm late

TotalBiscuit got contacted by BBC
and David Pakman just interviewed him
Just wrapped up my interview with David Pakman. I love challenging questions. This guy has a bright future ahead of him in this field.
Yay positive things!
God damn this whole thing's like a roller coaster. Ups and downs and ups and downs, loop-de-loops and all around. This ride ain't stoppin', ain't it?

1. GAWKER MEDIA VIOLATING AMAZON TERMS
2. GAWKER MEDIA VIOLATING GOOGLE ADSENSE CONTENT GUIDELINES
read it all folks. and send those emails.
So I just watched the Colbert video and it makes me sad. At this point I don't care about the ethics. I just don't want to be ashamed to be a gamer. The more I follow this the more I'm afraid I mention I play games and be instantly labelled something I am not. I fear I'd be made fun of, my opinion not given enough respect or feared of being some violent sexist.
I don't lose sleep over it, mainly because in my country GG has almost no meaning but it worries me.
So the Verge just declared GamerGate dead
http://www.theverge.com/2014/10/30/7131931/gamergate-is-dead
The entire article is written so smugly like "this is what happens when you mess with Pro Journalists"
I guess they didnt get the memo, "gamergate is over/dead/done" has already been tried and it failed.

This shit makes me so angry, after all is said and done I'll never respect tech journos again, and virtually every mainstream gaming publication has earned nothing but my active redicule and derision.
Its not dead.
You've only given it more attention.

How fitting for the Halloween season. Something has been declared dead, but just keeps coming back.

Haha some moderator did the classic "But Grayson didn't review her game" to which I replied with "He did cover it tho" and a link to the article. Both those comments are hidden now :v:

Sent a few Tweets to MCV and the actual writer of that article a few hours ago. No replies but I really just want them to know that they've alienated a user from their site. I figured I needed to at least try to call them out for it.
Sorry to burst your bubble but they won't care.

It's like those really stupid YT comments that go "This sucks I'm unsubbing I hope you're happy" and have 50 replies that read "bye bye then" or "you won't be missed".
These side cuts are not how you do bullet points thing, Verge.

When it should be very firm, very tight, very short and very straight focal points of the text. And there shouldn't be four of them for such a small piece. But then again, these are main points of the article, which is sad and indicative of a very-very poor quality job by the author and the editor.
Guys, I'd like advice. I'm debating this issue with my brother and I wonder if I went about the right way.
It's slightly disheartening for me to see him fall into the spew.

What should I bring up more, if anything?
[editline]30th October 2014[/editline]
He's a professor btw. I respect his opinion a lot, but I have to disagree with him on this issue.
Sorry to burst your bubble but they won't care.
Yep, probably won't but I feel there is a practically 0 chance if I keep it to myself and it honestly doesn't take long on the internet to send something their way.
