He just takes in shit from people reporting on GG and refuses to actually look at what people are saying. It's so fucking infuriating. Link him to that breakdown of the hashtag that showed that 95% of the tweets being sent were neutral in tone. The assholes in this discussion are a tiny, tiny minority, and we can prove it.

Certainly not in linguistics, because what is written there concerning language is mostly regurgitated bullshit that seems to be incredibly popular. No offense meant, of course. Other than that, you have a right approach. It might not convince, but there's so much you can do against an opinion already held firmly.

Right now it's more of a stalemate. We have the information needed to absolutely crush everything, but it's not getting reported, not through the right channels at least. Again, I'm hoping TotalBiscuit's efforts will change this, but I'm still holding my breath.

I'd point out the tumblr about GamerGaters reporting harassers and possibly bring up how it's pretty obvious that some people are deliberately aggravating both sides. An article I read recently mentioned something about that if you need to give him a concrete link, can't remember which one though. Probably somewhere in this thread. Plus, while GG's goals are pretty simple, this situation as a whole can be pretty complicated for someone who wasn't around reading into things since the start. There's a lot of spin from anti-GG and a lot of vitriol from both sides as well as the troll-y middle ground people. For someone on the outside who I'm assuming isn't even a gamer, it can be hard to really understand where pro-GG people are coming from. Just being patient in explaining things to him should help with that, I think.

I have played games since fucking 3 years old, and I've only gotten better at it over time. I'm not going to stop now just because some female screams "MAH SOGGY KNEES!" from the rooftops. I've said my piece, I support inclusion in games industry. I support having more female developers and gamers in the "gamers club." I also support stronger journalistic ethics. People like Anita and Zoe would claim we support rape, and murder, particularly of females. I just look at that and say, I won't apologize for a crime I never committed and have never thought of committing. Don't be ashamed of your gaming, nothing is wrong with you enjoying a hobby. Instead, take pity on the poor journalists, whose moral compass appears to be skewed to hell and back.

Funnily enough, I got talking with my parents about that BBC report that was on TV (my sister works in game dev so they take a slightly longer look at these things than most people). Talked about it with them for a while, and they came down as basically Pro-GG. It's nice to have a family that don't just believe the first thing they hear on the news.

My brother was in a relationship with a rabid feminist. We're talking full on 'muh patriarchy' feminism; she couldn't get a job because she insulted the interviewers for being privileged men. Yeah. That's why he's probably going to be really hard to deal with on this topic. Thanks for the suggestions though guys.

But when it becomes "pay me money because I want it" it's just pathetic. What did you guys think of TB's interview with Stephen Totillo, I wasn't around when it went up but I just sat down and listened and it really gave me mixed feelings. Yeah I like that he's stepping up to the plate to talk but at the same time a lot of what he says comes off as the same dodgy crap that I've been hearing so much lately. What really got to me is that he established early on that he prefers to "play it safe" and yet when controversial situations arise surrounding one of his staff he just defends them almost entirely, and rather than playing it safe he just says, "yeah I disagree with what pretty much everybody else is saying about him/her".
