Anti-GG will probably cry about how misogynistic we are to have her on our side because we objectify her because she takes her clothes off for money for the sole purpose of satisfying our own sexual needs through porn.
At some point, someone has to say "fuck toy"
At some point, someone has to say "fuck toy"
As well as 'She has internalised misogyny' because it is a woman joining the Pro-GG side.
Can we talk about how bloody weird GamerGate support has been? In all of my life I have never seen so many different cultures that would otherwise be gleefully tearing out each others throats put their differences aside to work together just this once. Most of the movement leans to the left whenever handed political gauging tests, but a lot of the bigger movers and shakers are as right as they come. Groups of support have gathered around both Playboy columnists and concerned christian mothers. Feminists, anonymous business vets, Youtube celebrities, and Internet nazis are all on-call if something falls into their specialties. I've seen flowery pep-talks about Reddit and 4chan "dying as brothers" when they both were getting scrubbed. Shit's crazy. And that's not even getting into the people who aren't directly involved, but still have huge amounts of influence and interest. Who's being eyeballed by at least one senator, Julian Assange, and black hat groups? These guys.
That's because A: the journalism thing goes a lot farther than games. A lot. B: Games make more money than anything else combined. Basically now rich people want in; the same that happened to television and other venues that have come along.
It's not a good read at all because the author has no idea what social justice is. Protip: If someone is unironically using the words "cultural Marxism" you're likely not missing much. [editline]2nd November 2014[/editline] The IA video in the Twitlonger link is hilarious as well "You see, you have this generation called millennial, who grew up in the PC era..."
I actually thought it was satire because of that...
Asian males seem to be the largest nonwhite vocal AGG demographic. The same appears to be true for the Social Justice movement in general. I'm sure there are a fair number of black people in both communities, but a lot of them seem really quiet and don't get much attention when they do speak up.
[...] what does redpilling even mean. Is it literally like, the Matrix?
Yes, exactly that (which is relatively apt considering the echo-chambers/bubbling abounding everywhere and it's useful as meme/shorthand), but apart from that you normally wouldn't mention it when you try to do it (and also not be that clumsy about it). On a basic level it just means pointing out info that was unknown because of the receivers social context.
I know you guys don't like razorfist, but he made a great video that was spot on on just about everything.
8chan's gg decided to replace the Literally Who naming system (LW1,LW2, LWu, etc.)with a Mojo jojo system (Just Mojo jojo/MJ for all of them, no numbers to uniquely identify them.) in honor of this

I think going to the FTC with this is almost as important as sending e-mails, especially for the long-term. [sp]also,[/sp][sp] check em[/sp]
Jesus christ my fucking state (There was going to be a GG meetup at Ground Kontrol arcade at Portland but it was cancelled thanks to this psycho) [t]http://i.imgur.com/Z8gGlvS.jpg[/t] Doesn't help that I went there a few weeks ago

https://archive.today/vTsdl Holy shit This guy only cares that People of Color and women are being killed, as if it doesn't matter about anyone else being killed in a video game. It's literally written like a tumblr post of someone complaining about the patriarchy. https://soundcloud.com/johnfbowman/interview-bowman-dawe-gamergate It's stuff we pretty much already know just nicely discussed that hits a lot of the topics.
I think we are in wonderland now. I hope people catch wind of Journolist, since I doubt the public will be very happy with it existing.
The last time people caught wind of it, it was democratic and liberal sources working together to construct narratives and talk about information. Conservatives had a field day and the group was dismantled, only to be brought back.
So the circles I'm in have a few anti-GG people (nobody to whom I'm close enough to really talk to them about it) and somebody retweeted this... https://twitter.com/Izz145/status/529332834385682432 I think this is one of the reasons why we need to be harsher on people misusing the hashtag. If people want to talk about their thoughts on diversity in gaming, they can do it elsewhere. That isn't what a hashtag about ethics is for.

Generally when people criticize SJW it's for being hypocritical, promoting inequality or to denounce con artists.
To be honest only /pol/tards claim people want to "force" diversity. Generally when people criticize SJW it's for being hypocritical, promoting inequality or to denounce con artists.
Forcing diversity is even worse than no diversity at all. People should put characters into works (any kind of them) because it's functional, not because they need to meet some kind of minority quota.
there are some arguments from prominent anti-gg people, like anita, who i would say fall under attempting to force diversity, but obviously there's a number of angles they use and that's just one. (not all of the gamergate opposition represents that) By force diversity people mean stuff like reviews(the bayonetta 2 polygon review for example) and people like anita affecting game development by discouraging whatever type of character they deem to be a sexist sterotype, and by encouraging characters of more "diversity" not that what anita and friends actually want is diversity.
Forcing diversity is even worse than no diversity at all. People should put characters into works (any kind of them) because it's functional, not because they need to meet some kind of minority quota.
My personal opinion is that, in most instances, one doesn't need to change the writing for most minority characters. For instance, in a progressive future where humanity lives in harmony, making the protagonist a black woman would be no different from a white man. I don't think that's forcing diversity, more just mixing up characters' appearances in the same way you might make different characters have different hair and eye colours. Yes, if the game's set in 1700s America then you can't just change a character written as white to be black, but it's not exactly incorrect to say that white men are pretty overrepresented in video games. Admittedly, this is changing- and that's good- but it gets a bit tiring after a while seeing almost every game be led by a white, straight man.

Nobody should care about sex, skin color, or whatever. What should matter is whether or not the character is well written or not. The problem with the shovelhorning of "progressive" labels is that characters tend to end up being rather poorly written.
