The whole thing is a pretty interesting read.

This isn't new or news. This has been known since before GG even broke. Conde Nast owns reddit, hence all the bullshit reddit was pulling well before then; Conde Nast basically said, "whatever we decide is based on what our users want" in regards ethics regarding to both topics and users. Basically reddit gets the names and IPs of "people of interest" and then that goes around from there. If you think left leaning or liberal politics is any cleaner or nobler than conservative, whelp, here ya go.
Aw hell. Are there also journos from Europe on the journolist? If so, that might explain why coverage of #gg here has been so incredibly biased against #gg in most countries.
Yes.
When Orland said "which other groups", he wasn't kidding.
If it helps one woman feel a bit safer about being a gamer or game developer, then yes.
I wonder how much ruckus the phrase "internalised misandry" would cause.
It's something that needs to be addressed as well as other things.
I wonder how much ruckus the phrase "internalised misandry" would cause.
Just saying that you're helping doesn't automatically mean you're helping, especially when this kind of fear-mongering and emotional manipulation is actively spreading the idea of women being baselessly harassed and making them feel even less safe.

So when are big devs going to realize that the whole scandal is really really bad for business?
On the short term we have a lot of people who n longer want anything to do with certain publishers because they support a smear campaign against their customers,on the long term we have the general gaming community painted as a cesspool of misogyny, harrasment, and most disturbingly neonazis, who the hell is going to want their kids to get into that, msnbc is going to push their anti video game agenda till the wheels fall off and discourage any new gamers from getting involved in the community.
Gamers are gonna continue this is our passion ,we may see a decline in new gamers for a long while.

I wouldn't be surprised if a number of them already do, but are unable to address the matter publicly. In one of the 8chan threads someone brought up the interesting point of how the ongoing controversy negatively affects hype for upcoming releases, claiming that when #GamerGate broke out much of the hype for Destiny seemed to just vanish. The larger this becomes and the more it engrosses people, those people will spend much less time being eager for the next big release.

politician being a goon to co-opt and destroy GG, she's for gg yet got a gamergahzi ama.
-this is a tinfoil hat or something possible, I'm so confused I'm reading the links in 8chan.

They're perfectly able to address it publicly; their marketing departments are up to their buttssesses in collusion and that will certainly come out if anyone goes in public support of gamergate.

oh god it's her
for those that don't know, she's a goon, and a real crazy one at that. I'm not sure she's trying to do anything to the movement other than just trying to get attention, but she's pretty destructive regardless.
Its not like their collusion is a well kept secret , say you fucked up that you are going to fix it move on ,dont kill the goddamn industry over pride.

Its not a movement. It lacks any sort of organization to be called such.
Edit: I wish I could make an article for an audience that doesn't understand how bizarre the internet can be to explain that people do these things.
"no this could never happen, it's too far out there"
"here are the accounts of it and here are the possible reasons that are mostly accepted and why they appear to be valid if even that sounds confusing or insane"

People pointed it out, so know he at least knows there's not just harassment going on.

TL;DR
Nick Denton is paying people to tone police from inside GG.
Tone Policing is bad.
wow such puppetmaster
Just ignore it. It could be false and he's just trying to get us to police people who might be policing others. It's just more attempts at trying to creating infighting. Ignore.
edit: nevermind that, multiple people seem to be confirming that Gawker indeed did this. https://twitter.com/Kingofpol/status/529556164468822016, https://twitter.com/Kingofpol/status/529556164468822016, https://twitter.com/PlayDangerously/status/529554358698905600,
Not like it'd be a surprise what with the talk of Gawker paying people to support them and argue against the movement.
I wonder how much Manibogi gets paid.
Not like it'd be a surprise what with the talk of Gawker paying people to support them and argue against the movement.
With the talk from a lawyer. If the allegation was untrue they would be able to sue him over it afaik.
I'm not sure what's funniest about this. Whether it's that he refers to it as a giant to be slain, whether he's naive enough to think people haven't been paranoid of shills since day one, or that he thinks he's revolutionary by paying people when so many of them do it for free.
He's really showing he has no idea how any of it works if he thinks people claiming to be doing it for the better of the group with tone policing can't be differentiated. If he said less then maybe the paranoia about more shills would do something, but this is just a joke.
