I have no idea what's happening any more. It seems you have to be paying attention 24/7 for all of this
If there's ever an end let it be known I was less of a soldier and more of a guy who wandered into the trenches and someone handed me a hat.

rage continues to spread among the kotaku people as they realize jenn frank has been fired

Ok so I´m kinda lazy to read all the pages, so can anyone give me a summary of the last 10 or so pages please?
Wait, she was fired? Was that because of the Guardian article?
I feel like Kotaku is five minutes away from completely collapsing.

everyone said she was fired because she lied to the guardian that she supported people mentioned in the article via patreon, four times
not 100% confirmed on that though
also

My favorite part is the fact that people think these writers are going to get stellar freelance writing jobs outside of gaming.
Sorry, if Kotaku was your high water-mark, not sure you're going any higher.
really?
we didn't lose patricia hernandez?
fuck man we didn't accomplish anything
go away nathan grayson no one likes you

patrica hernandez got a "hey dont do that u hear??? *waggle finger*" type punishment.
because kotaku wont fire one of their biggest clickbait makers
Well think of it this way: Jenn Frank wasn't a particularly stellar writer, but she was decent enough to be in a higher tier above Patricia Hernandez and other clickbait writers. In other words, if Kotaku was cleaning house, Jenn Frank probably wouldn't be the first to go.
The fact that she was fired due to her patreon support means Kotaku isn't going to fuck around with firing people. The pressure from advertisers is so strong, they're willing to get rid of relatively decent writers if that's what they have to do.
In other words? No one is safe now. Everyone at Kotaku must be scared of losing their jobs. Clickbait Hernandez is just as much of a dangerous asset to Kotaku as Jenn Frank is, if not more-so.
[editline]4th September 2014[/editline]
That said I might be looking at Kotaku from a way too optimistic angle. Maybe they're fucking moronic enough to get rid of all their awesome writers in order to protect their clickbait. So maybe any writer worth their grain in salt is under threat, whereas Clickbait Hernandez gets to sleep comfortably on vacation.

I saw that incredibly passive agressive statement Hernandez had to make about how she's friends with all the people she writes articles about in her articles.
Fuck you, hernandez.
Calling it now. Polytron was "hacked"... again.

I still think people clamiing Fish / Quinn doxxed themselves were just conspiracy nuts, I know they're less than reputable but that's overboard
I think Phil is just doing the crazy distraction thing that Zoe did with her twitter.
He probably thinks he's pretty funny, but I guess no-one told him he's already a joke.

career self destructs, time to join the gamergate side!

It's almost as if decent writers without a career can now be dead honest about how shitty the industry is!
This is great. If jurno companies sever their writers, writers have nothing to prevent themselves from being dead honest about the industry. If journo companies clutch onto their writers, advertisers put on pressure and views drop.
The only way they can counter this is huge PR campaigns, but even those are starting to fail because people can see behind the curtain.
So does this mean Jenn might be willing to give us an actual accurate story of how she lost her job?
Or did I miss the reason...

who knows really, just means one more person with rep on the gamergate side
I read through her tweets, and this was basically what I picked up:
Jenn Frank understands why gamers are upset. She understands why people would be upset with nepotism. And, based on her own childhood experiences, she understands what it's like to grow up a nerd, get bullied/harassed for that, have your own space online to be a nerd, and then see people shit all over you for being a self-identified gamer. Especially after going through all those childhood years of harassment for your hobby. So her heart goes out to a.) concerns w/ nepotism, and b.) gamers being shit on by the industry.
Basically, she was put into a position where she was under a lot of pressure to talk about GG, from people on all sides of the issue. And she had to make a choice, since it was impossible to represent both sides in her career position. So she decided to talk about misogyny & GG, not corruption/nepotism.
She understands why people want GG but couldn't openly say that at the time. It would be suicide for her contacts. Now, she can, because no one would want to maintain their connections with her because her one leveraging power is shot - she's not a writer anymore, and she has 0% press connections. I think we can expect her to be open & honest about issues she dealt with as an indie writer, but I wouldn't expect her to become the next Ariel Connor.
More than likely, she won't say much of anything about it in the hopes of saving what reputation she has left in the hope she can return to writing down the line. I doubt she'll say much in favor of gamers or critical of the nepotistic crowd, and I doubt, though to a lesser degree, that she'll do much to defend them either.

Can someone explain what Patreon is? You sign up to pay a monthly sum to a developer? Honestly it sounds a lot like tithing at a church. Whatever happened to supporting developers by buying their games?

you pay people money monthly/per video/per art piece/etc.
they use the money to do whatever the fuck they want, some have specific causes though (movies, Making youtube vids, making art, etc.)
