at this rate im going to need to make a revised version of my image with all these others slapped together.

Why do people insistently believe that every gamergate supporter strictly marches behind Baldwin's word? It's a consumer revolt, anyone who helps us achieve our goal are welcome, it doesn't mean that we're going to follow them to the depths of hell (unless that would be our goal).

It's just stupid. We can support Gamergate and still think "well maybe Baldwin has done/said some bad stuff before but his support is useful right now".

Even before all this, TotalBiscut's unwavering dedication to gaming and refusal to compromise with those he sees as harming consumers made him one of gaming's greatest assets. On the other hand, he did make buying Krater look like a good idea

I still remember watching one of his videos on Tribes Ascend and he was pretty much as consumer oriented as you could be.
At one time I thought he was an ass because of that comment controversy but I clearly did not have enough information at the time.

Compare that with Jeff Gerstman who would pretty much hand wave most of those concerns.

I think that a few years ago, Total Biscuit used to be a bit of a dick. But he turned that around, and made something good out of it, by being very focussed towards consumer rights and being unwavering in his opinions (unless such a thing is the sensible thing to do). He's a good example of how people aren't stuck forever as how they are right now- and that's why I still have hope even in some of the most disgusting voices who try to stop Gamergate- because if they truly do care about justice, one day they might turn around and realise what they are doing, and then their undeniably strong voices will become a great asset. The ones who fake their support of equality for their own benefit, however, aren't worth talking about.

I think it's because everyone got so political in the last couple of decades. From every corner you hear about politics, and ideology, and how everyone has to have an opinion on that or the other. It got stuck up. At least in media it happens a lot - people are often defined by just their political or social orientation, and everything is so neatly packed into these nice shiny categories, right wing, left wing, moderate (which is hard to come by as of late), liberal, socialist etc. etc. You can't express any sort of opinion on politics without being immediately associated with radicals that only have to do with you one thing - an opinion on a single isolated issue. Say, I'm against walfare as it exists today in many countries - so I must be pro-oligarchy or even a monarchist, and no one will look much past this to listen what my real opinion is.

I largely blame the state of modern media for this. Press forgot that their purpose is to counterbalance the constant flow of ideology and structure facts, opinions, reports and events. Now all media belongs to one or the other shade of political spectrum, and it's called "pluralism". Thousands of opinions, as long as they are packed neatly into tiny boxes - nothing to do with true freedom of thought.

I noticed that I'm going on a lot of rants that have fuck all to do with GG, I think I need to take a break. Feels like I'm bringing way too much politics, contrary to the points I'm making.

I feel like TB is the only really good asset pro-GG has. Sommers may be a feminist but most of her work is critique of third-wave feminism so it's easy for her to come off as "anti-feminist". Other big name supporters are just riddled with terrible opinions on various issues (Milo and Baldwin for example) I can't think of any weaknesses TB has, he's incredibly intelligent and honest. There's no real way for the opposition to write him off.

It's like arguing with a wall with a mule graffitied on to it. He's super bipolar, and only used to do stuff during his manic phases which completely colored everything he posited and formulated. Like most upright red blooded UK males, he refused to get treatment until his wife laid down an ultimatum last year.

It's had a pretty obvious tempering effect as well as probably bringing the realization that not only are you never going to have all the answers, all you're going to pile up is more questions as you go through life, and picking the right ones to find answers to is way more important than answering all of them definitively.

He's found a more balanced approach without mellowing out.
