Can't Pakman put forth a case about this being libel/slander?
It's not entirely clear... but he could probably force them to run a (very specific) correction.
If Canadian reporting law is similar to the German one that is.
If it's like US law then I doubt he can do anything.
Journalists get a LOT more shit than people think, sadly. Rats like the paparazzi fully deserve it, they're borderline stalking/harassing people, but regular journalists like Pakman get largely the same flak despite just trying to do a decent job.
I throw more than my share of Flak at people like the paparazzi...but I try to give credit where its due. I hate the idea of being called a shitbag just because you wanted to do your job properly.

He's already made a video replying to it.
So the CBC has firmly come out as against GamerGate instead of taking a neutral journalistic stance like they fucking should. I'd say that I am completely disgusted but frankly this is normal for them. These fucking chodes don't know what journalism is.
So I guess it's not just US media that sucks ass, considering our government-funded national broadcaster has gone full retard.
EDIT: holy shit I'm reading Twitter, Canadian GG supporters ARE PISSED. And considering the CBC is milking views and victim points from this I expect by next week GamerGate is going to go national in Canada. And if you guys think the SJW infection is bad in the US, just wait until you see what Canada looks like after a few days of GG vs SJW fighting. Ugh I am not looking forward to this.
I'd bet money (if I had any) on there being a new push for cyberbullying laws before the end of December.
EDIT 2: seriously look at this shit: https://twitter.com/CBCNews/status/522484626515062784
This isn't just some fucking article, they outright came out against GamerGate. What the fuck?
It's amazing how even the most neutral organisations have suddenly come out as being hugely against Gamergate... It's almost like they're picking at the very lowest-hanging fruit and trying to drag the rest of the tree down with it.

I wonder what Mansbridge himself thinks. He's probably on a gag order/can't say anything in fear of being portrayed as the next Jian. I would love to wager that he didn't want to be forced by the Autoscript to read someone else's viewpoint, but had to because it's the Autoscript and the show has to keep rolling (is The National pre-recorded? that's what I think they do at least).

Send intel emails
I will not watch the CBC or BBC anymore that much is certain.
People keep calling it a culture war ,it started out as a consumer revolt I feel its more than that now but nowhere near a culture war.Do these people not realize how badly a culture war would go for them ,being smeared by media isn't new for gamers neither is being bullied so their entire strategy is done before it starts

Send intel emails
From the article:
Since Intel’s adverts reappeared debate had been raging between Gamergate supporters on Twitter over whether or not they were deliberately placed or there accidentally as part of Google’s AdSense programme. The company have now confirmed that they are indeed a deliberate placement.
A spokesman for Intel said: "We have resumed advertising on the game developer site Gamasutra. As we have said in the past, it was not our intent to take a position in the current controversy surrounding the gaming community. We have a long history of support for gaming and game developer communities, and Gamasutra's audience is an important constituency."
So Intel wants to be neutral now? I think this decision will backfire on them though.
I dont know why intel is shooting for that particular audience. Twine "games" can be played with integrated graphics cards.
I haven't read this thread at all basically, but I noticed that this article was posted on the last page - I read it earlier today.
When it was posted, there was no response from the guy or really anyone to defend his choice of shirt, so it felt like they were simply bullying this guy - they might think of him as symptomatic of something bigger, but in reality they were just slandering this dude when it was totally unnecessary. It's basically tabloid level journalism.
Turns out the shirt was given to him by his friend's wife (afaik), and he wore it because it meant a lot to him. He also issued an apology, and you can see just how fucking hard the coverage hit him. Before I was just a bit annoyed at how shitty the article was, now I'm just disgusted that they could do this to a guy who spent so much time on a project that just came into fruition today. He's actually crying, and while he could've (and maybe should've) chosen a different shirt, he didn't wear it because he's a misogynistic pig, he wore it because it meant something special to him.
All in all, fuck the Verge.
Welp, I guess Intel needs another wave of emails, that or basically a mass amount of support for AMD products.

I've just heard about this, I am pretty angry, but something is pretty interesting about the author.
The author of this hitpiece is Chris Plante.
Plante's apparently on the GameJournoPros list.

Apparently, he also wrote Polygon's ''Gamers are dead'' article before leaving Polygon a week later. He was the co-founder of Polygon too.
Just how deep does this whole thing go?

Someone pointed out that Chris Plante, the guy that wrote the article on the Verge also is on GJP list and wrote one of the gamers are dead articles
EDIT
FUcking ninjas
As far as Intel goes, I said you couldn't focus just on advertisers, because ultimately the advertisers will just come back. They're not going to stay gone forever, because really they have short term memory and little commitment to any topic. And further, they will care about what the general public thinks, because that influences their share price. Basically, you'd have to find strong evidence directly on one of these sites where a writer or major figure is giving heroin to 10 year olds or an article saying they Jews need to be obliterated for them to actually pull out permanently.

Polygon and The Verge are sister sites and are very closely intertwined. They share a lot of writers. Chris leaving Polygon means nothing more than that Vox Media is trying to do PR.
I think its worth mentioning Chris wrote The Verge's "GamerGate is Dead" article.
He also wrote an article about how Dragon Age: Inquisition is more accessible as a game because it is sexually and racially diverse, as if gay/trans/female/etc people can't play a game unless it has those things in it.

I can only enjoy things where the main character share the same view point, skin color, sexual orientation, and gender identity as me. I am completely incapable of identifying with or even empathizing with those different from myself.

I'd say it's not so much about that as it is about representation.
For instance, for trans people, not counting VERY recent shows like OItNB, the main trans women in the media have been:
Buffalo Bill (not actually transgender but seen by many as such), serial killer
... That one from Sleepaway Camp, also a serial killer, also not actually transgender
As for trans men, their representation in the media is currently:
Technically that one documentary about the trans man who got pregnant.
I love playing games. I think a well-written (or blank slate a la Gordon Freeman) character is good, no matter their race, sexuality, sex or gender identity. But it would be nice, y'know? Luckily, this seems to be changing (and with characters like Poison, video games are actually one of the more inclusive industries, at least with trans people), but it would be fantastic to see a trans character in a big-name AAA game one day. Representation isn't so much 'waaah waah there aren't enough black trans women in this game and that makes it a poor game', it's just 'damn, I kind of feel a bit alienated because this game set in a utopia in the future for some reason features no people of different ethnicities', or something of the like. Whiners are whiners, even if they whine about something which should be a good thing. But it's possible to want representation without just moaning about it.

On a side note, I'm actually only a couple of degrees of separation away from Laura K Dale, who's been in news articles on Facepunch a couple of times, as well as being in this. I'm kind of tempted to try and talk to her about Gamergate but I really don't know her very well (I've never spoken to her but she lives locally and dated/ is dating a friend of mine's sister), and I'm concerned that I'll just totally be shunned by her, which would probably be bad for my relationship with my friend.

currently it seems like people are putting in these characters for the sake of having them rather than actually trying to make a good story with interesting and realistic characters. I really do not mind playing a bunch of videogames as a straight person. it doesnt hurt me at all and if the game is any good I'll probably buy it regardless of anyone's sexuality.

Yeah, the pandering is excessively apparent in some stories. Fallout New Vegas introduced a shitload of characters were focus weren't at all laid on sexuality etc, they just ~were~.
so apparently everyone's freaking out about leigh alexander saying that intel has bought ads for gamasutra. an anti-gg freelancer also wrote an article saying the same. but since it's friday, there's no confirmation until monday, which means leigh is trying to get gg-ers to freak out about the intel thing and email intel like rabid dogs over an entire weekend, which can only harm us because we'll all look like mental patients
i have an inkling that theyve already got articles written about us boycotting more devs or intel over this. they're very coordinated.
if anyone tells you to email intel over the weekend, do not do it. let the professionals handle the investigations. nothing good will come out of jumping the gun.

Chris Plante wrote a follow up on his shirt article. He and The Verge are getting torn up in the comments.

Personally, I think just sticking a character in and saying 'Yeah, btw they're gay' is the way to do it. If somebody includes a brown-haired character, nobody expects them to act in a certain way just because they have brown hair. I think it should be the same thing with somebody who has black skin or is gay, because in real life gay people don't 'act gay', they act however they want, which sometimes happens to be in a way society perceives as gay. Obviously, if a character's features would be significant in that story's universe then you'll have to make use of it, but I think there's a difference between introducing a token character for ~diversity~ and just having a cast that isn't all white, straight, cis people.

If I made a game and someone asked about the sexuality of a character who isn't defined sexuality-wise i'd just say they're gay if you want them to be
I think I back gamergate because of the corruption and the collusion in the industry. I think Im going to have to make an effort to step away from any more talk about sexuality or skin color. because I have really never cared if a game has or does not have a bunch of white people. most devs cant into proper sexuality without being cliched and obnoxious to the point it makes me cringe anyway so I'd rather they focus on creating something with tight controls and balanced gameplay than how they should let the player know someone likes dicks.
