As a fairly radical leftist person who still has a couple of right-wing friends, I think it's possible to disagree with some of a person's views whilst agreeing with others. But it seems like for most of the anti-GG people, it's all totally black and white. I actually think a couple of them have made good points regarding Gamergate itself, but that doesn't mean I suddenly think Leigh Alexander is a wonderful person or Anita Sarkeesian is the saviour of feminism in gaming.[/QUOTE]
The important thing to remember is that these people are only in it for power, not for actually changing things. All of these douches, from a C-list Kotaku writer to Anita/Jonathan, are in it to make their own little fiefdoms in gaming by having a chilling effect on free speech and ideas in gaming. The talk about "equality" and "social justice" is just a smokescreen. If they actually took a fair view on things, they'd lose their power over whatever niche fiefdom they have. They may have an idea or two you like, but these people are not your friends nor allies. They will very happily throw the people they claim to protect under the bus in a heartbeat if they challenge these wannabe-kings' authority (see: NYS).

These continue to be very good reads, despite the author apparently having trouble with being precise quite often.
I'd normally assume it's because it's not his native language but he also makes a lot of mistakes that point to learning by hearing, not reading... the text is also much better during more academic passages though, so it doesn't look like a general issue.
Maybe he's a speaker of a language that I don't know the error pattern of. ([editline]edit[/editline] It could be Portuguese, based on peculiar vocabulary and by exclusion of Spanish and French which I'm relatively familiar with. That's still at best a vague guess though.)
Anyway, it's a bit unfortunate since this would be a much easier read with editing pointing out these issues.
From what I can tell it's not easy to misinterpret though, since the context or link urls usually fill in the missing information.
It's also highly non-controversial in tone (for the most part), which means it would be difficult to attack on anything but content :dance:

Professional victims are only able to thrive in an "us vs them" environment, left vs right was a matter of convenience, because the more vocal individuals happen to be as far left as the scale goes. Whatever feeds their persecution complexes really.
The truth of the matter is that to them, the "right", is anybody further right than they are, rather than right of an agreed upon center.

Well I easily can disagree with it. It assumes that racism (even in-context of their bullshit butchered definitions) are things only Blacks/Hispanics/Asians suffered throughout history, which is [b]far[/b] from the truth. It also assumes that discrimination based on gender is something only women have suffered throughout history, which isn't true at all. Women arguably suffered from it [b]more[/b]. Even worse. I can sorta-kinda see truth behind some definitions like "Racism is a system of institutionalized oppression of [b]groups of people[/b] based on their ethnicity" and respectively for sexism, but she straight-up says that only non-Europeans [b]can[/b] suffer from racism and women - from sexism. Which butchers even "official" academic terminology.
And that's not talking about the fact that definitions used inside academia for a very specific purpose are not applicable for everyday conversations and don't automatically hold true in every context.
Plus, that's Anita Sarkeesian, a person who has zero problems blaming mass shootings on men as a whole.

Sure, and that's why it pretty widely used in liberal academia in US without further clarification, which I have zero problem with. And even there those terms apply to 'groups of people' of certain gender or ethnicity, not straight-up "women" and "PoCs".
I start to have problems with it when specific definitions get dragged out of their context and used in international communication. Anita isn't talking on campus of American college/university, she uses Twitter.

Everyone seems to forget that people were actually worried [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Catholicism_in_the_United_States]the Pope would control the US through JFK[/url], or how the mob brought a ridiculous amount of hatred on [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Italianism#Anti-Italianism_in_the_United_States]Italian Americans[/url], it's as if they don't count because they're European.
That isn't my main objection to her statements though, it's the implication that individual discrimination such as the "random personal prejudice" isn't just as much a problem as societal discrimination. She uses it to hand-wave away examples of horrible treatment of people as individual cases and not fitting with her narrative of societal oppression, and in doing so dismisses any arguments against the idea of women unconditionally being oppressed as insignificant in the larger scope. It completely rejects any kind of nuanced understanding of the situation with a categorical declaration that women are oppressed and there's nothing more to it.
