Are there any good major gaming sites left, anyway?
Wow, those are some loaded questions.
And he still proceeds to shit on them. Brilliant. [editline]4th September 2014[/editline]
Are there any good major gaming sites left, anyway?
No, actually :v: [editline]4th September 2014[/editline] it really goes to show how utterly fucking rotten it all is.
I liked Internet Aristocrat since his first vids about Tumblr. I'm seriously glad I wasn't disappointed. Strangely enough, all of the people I liked before the whole thing went down have proven themselves. I haven't been disappointed in no one. Maybe Adam Sessler, a bit. But he was showing troubling signs before that too.

Breaking news: Gamers have weaponized minorities
Breaking news: Gamers have weaponized minorities
Shifting blame now, aren't we?
Breaking news: Gamers have weaponized minorities
I mean, we're dealing with people who think it's acceptable to "weaponize women" for the sake of saving their own sorry asses.
No, actually :v: it really goes to show how utterly fucking rotten it all is.
To be honest, I feel that forums and videosites such as youtube and twitch have made Gaming Journalism sites superfluous. When I'm excited about a new game, the first thing I do is visit a forum to see what people are saying about it. Several dozen gamers you can actually discuss the game with are far more reliable than a single person who's word you'll "just have to believe". As well as that, I go watch some youtube videos, and if available some streamer, to see what the game plays like and what they think of it. I think Gaming Journalism sites noticed that they're becoming superfluous, and that's why they're offering their page space to these extremely opinionated people who are in need of a soapbox, to stir up controversy and bring in the clicks and the eyeballs. They understand that they are not relevant anymore, so they don't care about their reputation. They're like the washed up artists and actors who "accidentally" forget to put on panties when they visit some award show, or who get drunk and say something racist or pick a fight in some club. When nobody cares about you anymore, bad attention is better than no attention. This whole "war" can be won by simply by ignoring the bullshit they write and not giving them any attention. They will go away like a bad dream, and the terrible people that use them as soapboxes will disappear with them.
Breaking news: Gamers have weaponized minorities
Literally objectifying minorities.
Breaking news: Gamers have weaponized minorities
I like Matt Lees, but he released a video a few days ago that was a 6 minute rant where he missed the point so completely that he managed to not actually say anything in that time.
I like Matt Lees, but he released a video a few days ago that was a 6 minute rant where he missed the point so completely that he managed to not actually say anything in that time.
hes also the guy that said that "Suda51 is no longer a respected developer" because of a minigame about sex appeal in one of his games
also lol matt lees said i was a weaponized minority. i can now use my transgenderism as a WMD
hes also the guy that said that "Suda51 is no longer respected" because of a minigame about sex appeal in one of his games
Yeah, his views on sex is pretty bad. I just agree with him when it comes to game mechanics and the like. Like a lot of these people he's very uptight about sex being used in games, if it isn't used to 'tastefully' serve the narrative they'd rather everything is sexless. And that's just no fun.
You know if that happens everyone in this industry will be out of a job.
Good. Let the purifying fire burn it to the ground.
And he still proceeds to shit on them. Brilliant. [editline]4th September 2014[/editline] No, actually :v: [editline]4th September 2014[/editline] it really goes to show how utterly fucking rotten it all is.
I disagree. There's a lot of good going on right now in the indie journalism scene, especially toward gaming journalism. Living Myth Magazine is one I'm watching right now, but a lot of the smaller publications without all the industry ties seem to do a very, very nice job at reporting on games.
i can now use my transgenderism as a WMD
You decided you were trans just to spite corrupt games journalists. You've been planning this all along.
hes also the guy that said that "Suda51 is no longer a respected developer" because of a minigame about sex appeal in one of his games
Suda51's games are possibly the most empowering games for women that have been released in a long time. The thing is, the sex and stuff is super over-the-top as for all other games he's made. Like, Lollipop Chainsaw is one of the most women-empowering games of the last decade. Forget Mirror's Edge, forget Tomb Raider, Lollipop Chainsaw actually was a woman power-trip game. You were STRONGER than all of the boys in this game. Even Liberation Maiden, the 3DS game, has a very strong non-sexualised female protagonist who becomes president and fucks shit up in a mech. I fucking love Suda51, but i'm a little biased. He also gave women (Black Women of all things) a character to look up to in NMH 1 and 2 as well. Suda51 has done more for representing women in semi-mainstream games than anyone else in my opinion.
Good. Let the purifying fire burn it to the ground.
I disagree, if only because I have weird, sentimental ties to the industry. That said, I'm primarily a Food/Culture writer... So this doesn't affect me in the slightest. Still yet, I like gaming journalism being a thing, I just wish it weren't such drivel.

Still yet, I like gaming journalism being a thing, I just wish it weren't such drivel.
If game journalism burns down it'll be replaced by a new breed. No medium, even journalism, is removed forever. Honestly if the industry can't be purged of the corruption that seeps in everywhere I'd rather it burns down, then people who never would have become games journalists might give it a try, and the audience will hopefully be more wary. As it stands I can't trust any games journalist because I have no idea how far this spreads. People I previously thought to be beacons in the industry have come out and attacked their audience.

It going out in flames isn't going to change that, merely expedite it. Games journalism is already being replaced, rather quickly, by YouTubers, Streamers, Hobby Blogs, Indie Journalism... It's not like the medium's gone into freefall, it has a pretty comprehensive safety net. The problem is, the safety net doesn't have room for the traditional methods of journalism that we have now. Which is more or less fine, if a bit sad. But I guess it's long due for a shakeup, same as the rest of the industry is.
Dear Matt Lees, I like you, you're cool. But please actually think about what's happening rather than what people say is happening. Sincerely, that other Jamsponge [editline]4th September 2014[/editline] Also, I'm not Matt.
Gaming Journalism Is Over

Slate readers are over, declining—a dead demographic. Why on Earth would I start a column with this thesis? There is no faster way to alienate my audience—that is, the people who pay my bills.
Literally can't "FUCKING THIS" enough. This is dead on.
Publishers seem more invested in the idea of working with and appealing to the audiences of the likes of PewDiePie, in general I think the larger pubs want to see gaming journalism's role diminished. Recent examples are of course the late Destiny review copies and the absence of Sims 4 reviews, in Destiny's case Activision has invested too much money to let the likes of Polygon/EG/etc spread negative press about the game so close to its release. So in terms of it burning down, I think it would suit them very much. I don't think it will ever go away, but I do think certain websites will. The bigger publishers prefer more marketable sites like IGN and GameSpot, they are inoffensive and are easy to push towards less informed and critical consumers. That isn't to say you are doing yourself a disservice if you are using those sites, but there is no denying that IGN and GameSpot do a very good job of hyping up and marketing larger titles than smaller more opinion/editorial focused sites do. Which ultimately is all the big pubs will take from this, if it means less Polygon's and Kotaku's questioning the morality of their next big game and potentially alienating consumers then it make them much happier. It reminds me of how the movie industry has changed, critics hate Michael Bay's movies but they always make a lot of money. Those studios like the big games publishers care very little for what a critic thinks unless it can be used as a marketing tool, which is often why with games the focus becomes more about hyping up a game pre-release and using the safety blanket of launch-day embargoes. By launch day, it is often too late for you to cancel a pre-order in many places. I have read many of these sites for a long time and their attitude doesn't surprise me, but I only view them for news. I would never make a decision to buy a video game purely off of the back of these sites, even before all of this. I think the community and sites like this, as well as streaming gameplay from people actually playing the game are a better way to judge your purchase rather than carefully choreographed gameplay footage from a publisher, or a gaming rag's website covered in ad's for the game they are reviewing.
Literally can't "FUCKING THIS" enough.
