To add on to that, the term was inspired by this webcomic, which was written in response to GG'ers having a tendency to pop up whenever someone tweets something negative about GG:
The only thing that the sea lion is probably doing wrong is probably invading personal space, getting into their house and whatnot. Which no GGer has ever done, ever. Twitter is a public space, like say, the outdoors, except where you can just block the sea lion. Otherwise, this comic just backfires on AGG. It shows that they're prideful in their ignorance and lack of explanation for their actions. If the flaw of the sea lion is asking why you made your statement, that makes them only badder.
Okay, we get it. You're not white. Shut the fuck up about it now please, it stopped being funny after the first time.
I can't hear you over this jar of mayo I've got here
A similar thing happened with Far Cry 3, actually: when critics slammed Far Cry 3's story (outside the parts with Vas) the writer complained that they just "didn't get it" and that the story was supposed to be a criticism of male power fantasies.
Well one could say that... FC3 and FC4 are criticisms, of something. Not male power fantasy, but something pretty interesting. It actually is pretty clever at times. At least it's interesting look at the main character. [sp]These games demonstrate how even though your character can kill thousands with his bare hands, a universal soldier, he's still spineless little shit incapable of willingly making decisions oh their own. It's sort of like SpecOps: the Line - 'can you even stop for a second and think about what you're doing? Or do you just like murdering this much?' Jason and Ajay are very weak despite being very strong. That holds true for most shooters out there, but there you don't have characters in the story comment on it.[/sp] And that bullshit about social justice, I didn't really notice that all that much. The only thing that came out of the blue were Amita with her 'first woman in the Golden Path', and even that doesn't strike all that much [sp]Sabal says 'did she gave you that speech? Yeah she tried it with me, didn't work' and I'm immediately like 'yeah she's trying to manipulate a guy who lived most of his life in the West'[/sp] So either that tweet was really misguided, or FC writers don't really know what they're writing.
Looks like David Draiman (Lead singer and songwriter of "Disturbed") has tweeted some support for GG [t]https://i.imgur.com/CUBPxAI.jpg[/t] Tbh, that album cover could work well for NotYourShield & GamerGate
I'm down with the sickness. *shrug* If you do any research at all, it's evident not everything is simply cut and dried. he's contributed to game stuff before, odds are he did his homework.

Two parts that could be set off, one where people who think GG are terrorists play the game and sympathize with Amita only to either believe in terrible ideologies pointing them out from groups or causing reflection and asking who side are they really on, the non killing of villain woman was choice connected to PR like not having child soldiers. The other part being that perhaps he knew that conflict can keep people fueled and listened to cyborg dev stating that ME3 writers expected gamers to figure out that wasn't the real ending, so he figures to within the narrative that saying something outrageous can be picked up on the people smart enough to figure it out if the ME3 statement is true. We try to take some people on the internet for face value and hearing the nonsense like Mirror's edge 2 being easier because women are too stupid to figure it out. But this guy is a writer, someone who crafts a narrative for a living, he was also by his LinkedIn page the principal writer for rainbow six: patriots. How can a guy saying those things write a story for a game where occupy wallstreet get's co-opted or transforms into a terrorist organisation. Those can't say for sure, might be that batshit insane to think that people tried to co-opt occupy wallstreet we the pure of heart and the people who started it to change how banks behaved we going to become an evil. Also I didn't play homefront.

I'm writing this late at night so it might look like crap.
(yes) It's probably trying to tell you that meddling for no reason is stupid.
So now that's two games Ubisoft have spent trying to retell the message of FC2. :v:
I can't hear you over this jar of mayo I've got here
I prefer the term "Oppression Jelly" or "Master Condiment". Much better than untergewürz like ketchup, or condiment traitor children like tartar sauce.

As seen on /gg/ https://8chan.co/gg/res/590572.html http://etd.lsu.edu/docs/available/etd-11192010-115249/unrestricted/Thesis.pdf

That's not even a good deed, but somehow pointing out stuff he did half an hour prior to the incident is taboo. - Half of the statistics I see being posted in support of the racism claims is cooked so much it's barely edible. I can't form an opinion from something where every single piece of relevant, non-inflammatory context was removed. The only difference is that there's a crazy amount of violence involved instead of just threats, and that there's a very good chance they aren't entirely wrong. But instead of doing something constructive, people just continue using that muddy shooting as a rallying point. It's as if Gamergate never moved on from Quinn and the other professional victims. Seriously, it makes me just about as angry as the stuff the "journalists" are doing. It's in parts blatantly wrong, goes completely against the message they are trying to send, and utterly counterproductive for actually solving the problem. I'm not going to pretend I have a great overview of the issue, but from what I see reported over here in Europe and floating around on the Internet, the police is at least trying to do their job properly and weed out racism in their lines. (I'm venting a bit here because some people I follow on Twitter were (re)posting that garbage yesterday. Especially because a certain person really should know better and it makes their other activism seem hypocritical.)

why the hell are people talking about ferguson in relation to this?
why the hell are people talking about ferguson in relation to this?
Attentionwhoring. EDIT: Also, damn, that girl is really cute!
why the hell are people talking about ferguson in relation to this?
Apparently shitty PR attracts each other like magnets. Apart from that, it's another area where social justice is going horribly wrong, and the SJWs are trying to conflate it. The only thing they seem to be missing is that the Ferguson protests actually have extremely bad mainstream PR because the media is somewhat neutral or spinning it both ways, and it's obvious that a lot of people there are just stirring the hatred like crazy. I have no idea if it's true malice or not, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say most people rioting (not looting) there are somehow unbelievably uneducated when it comes to making a difference. There really isn't an excuse for armchair SJ jumping onto this and promoting their flavour of racism though. If you're already on the Internet properly sourced information is readily available and you should at least have heard about the fundamentals of constructive activism.
Where's "being a sea lion" on the privilege scale?
Somewhere inbetween a penguin and white cis scum I guess
Somewhere inbetween a penguin and white cis scum I guess
Is a penguin like an oreo, or is it like a musty bitch?
People I like continue to not disappoint me, I like it.
Wish I could say the same.
Wish I could say the same.
I think at this point I've run out of potentially SJW developers I'm a fan of. The ones that are left and haven't yet supported Gamergate openly are too politically incorrect and/or obviously sane to consider the possibility.
Wish I could say the same.
Case in point: Bill Corbett of MST3K and Rifftrax fame just posted yet another tweet making fun of GG. I'd love to post a link to that article about the FTC doing shit, but I'm too afraid to do so because he might just ignore and block me. This is such bullshit.
Actually, wait. He can't change the fact he's a sealion. He didn't choose it, that's how he was born. Frankly, writer, I think you're sealionist.
The author of that seems to not express a one-sided view one way or the other on his website (he also posts tweets siding with the sea lion). He's selling anti sea lion shirts though. From what I can tell the sea lion being described as terrible in the comic title and elsewhere may well be sarcasm.
