did anyone see this/can verify its reliability? http://theralphretort.com/anita-sarkeesian-thought-fraud/ Apparently she used to coordinate seminars for male pickup artists similar to julien blanc
She's been involved in two known snake oil pyramid schemes, HA with an emphasis on picking up chicks, and a concern-troll website/funding building scheme, all that stuff's in on camera. [editline]27th November 2014[/editline]
Whatever happened to subtlety. Actually I think I know what happened: Since they want to please everyone, they throw every bit of intellectually challenging content out of the window early in development. The best works of fiction I've ever seen were those that didn't compromise quality for "reach", mostly because if you do that you lose mystery and without mystery it becomes difficult to effectively build tension or immerse the reader/viewer/player. If it's important to get the correct message across then I don't mind if the work is very clear about it after giving the audience a chance to realise it by themselves. The Monogatari series is an excellent example of that kind of storytelling and the Discworld novels also use this kind of structure fairly often, but to a lesser extent.
Watch novels are basically fridge brilliant at this.
Watch novels are basically fridge brilliant at this.
Discworld Watch, WWW trilogy or, as I assume, Night Watch, Day Watch, etc.? I've only read some of the first category.
Discworld.

This is the non-satire twitter? Really?
how do people take this guy seriously again
Gotta love how these fancy shmancy people ignore This War of Mine because it's about superficial things like civilian suffering in a warzone.
Tweet is definitely real. https://archive.today/rjOhL
In regards of Far Cry 4, I don't think the writer was actually trying to push the feminist agenda for the simple reason that if he was, he's done a godawful job. On the other hand he perfectly shows the mentality of your average radical feminist: she might have some good points, but uses sexism as a scapegoat to dismiss any criticism I've made a quick video of a scene which I found was particularly relevant and sounded uncannily familiar https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/102775431/farcry4fm.mp4 For the record, I'm still relatively early in the game but I have yet to see a cutscene where amita doesn't complain about sexism. It's THAT hamhanded
I think people making comparisons to modern feminism in the West with Far Cry 4 isn't fair. We're talking about a third world country in the midst of a civil war, the dynamic changes. I wound up backing her the entire way. She was the only one who had actual plans for the country, and she was frustrated that the little girl, Bhadra, was going to be made a religious icon in an arranged marriage where she would probably be abused and raped. I thought she was at least better than Sabal, the other dude you can side with. That said, after you beat the game, you can see a cut scene where [sp]Amita, the woman in the video, becomes a total monster who kidnaps children to use as soldiers in the resistance. She tells you to get out of the way if you don't like it, and she tells the parents of the children to either go back inside or get shot. I killed her at this point. My understanding is that Sabal is like that too so you're fucked either way.[/sp] So yeah, I don't think that's the point the game is trying to make either.
I think there's a difference between 'entertaining' and 'fun'. Saving Private Ryan isn't really a 'fun' movie apart from a couple of scenes (if you're into that), but it's certainly entertaining in that it keeps you gripped and you want to continue watching. A crime novel isn't necessarily 'fun' unless it's something like Dirk Gently, but Sherlock Holmes is still 'entertaining' despite not being 'fun'. I think games can be entertaining with the focus taken away from 'fun', but I get the feeling that in their tweets they're not saying 'Let's have a game that's gripping to play, with a message', they're saying 'The message is literally the only thing that matters in a game and if a game has a good message it doesn't matter how awful the rest of it is, you should play it or else feel bad'. [editline]27th November 2014[/editline] From my knowledge of Spec Ops: The Line, it's that kind of game. It's not 'fun' once you reach the second act, but from what I've heard it still grips you.

I know that it's a pretty long article, but I highly suggest you read it and spread around. It's fantastic.
Spec ops the line is decent whiz bang fun at the begininning but after the turning point it becomes less fun and more a determined push through to be able to see it to completion. It was a very cool thing as part of the narrative that both you and the MC are only doing what you're doing because of a misguided beleif that simply seeing it through would solve everything you'd done I can't reccomend Spec Ops enough, the absolutely superb writing overweighs the gameplay and the atmosphere is incredible, think rapture (of bioshock fame) but in Dubai /v/ willl tell you that spec ops is overrated shit but that's just because normal people found out it was good

But Spec Ops becoming less fun seems to be a pretty important point to the whole thing. It wasn't massively fun in the first place due to the bog-standard TPS gameplay, but the plot and environments were pretty interesting and kept me glued to it for the entire time.

What kills me is how despite every major reviewer on the planet adoring spec ops the line, they all still praise the hell out of modern warfare [editline]27th November 2014[/editline] The best games, in my opinion are the ones that walk hand in hand with their gameplay to tell a story. Hotline Miami used crazy fast paced fun gameplay to make you go "Oh shit! I killed like a million people and it was super fun! Am I a bad person? No? Okay."
how do people take this guy seriously again
Do you think Jonathan McIntosh is probably one of those people who would unironically say "fun is a social construct"?
Do you think Jonathan McIntosh is probably one of those people who would unironically say "fun is a social construct"?
I don't get why people respect him so much. He seems like the kind of guy who secretly hates video games and I know that sounds neckbeardy but he kinda does, you know? Not sure why people want to listen to a critic of something you don't like I don't like metal music, but I also don't know shit about metal. I should make a criticism video series about why metal is bad.

Also, why Anita Sarkeesian is always wearing those hideous earrings? Every time i see her i see this:
Okay, we get it. You're not white. Shut the fuck up about it now please, it stopped being funny after the first time.
I'm white, and I think he's damn right. Not to assume everyone is like that, but it seems like LOADS of people who have a beef with things that no one should have a beef with nowadays are white people who never had any problems in life but just join whatever cause or fight going on because it makes them look good in the eyes of society, as if to pardon "the privilege" they have. Again, not saying everyone who does stuff like that reviewer is exactly like that, but there are loads of people who all of a sudden became like that.
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=340877105 Seedscape got greenlit. If their point was to harm the dev then they failed lol.
It's pretty cool how the movement has a focus on "assisting the minority" instead of "attacking the majority" like Gawker and Salon. The former approach is the appropriate, quick, and effective focus to help minorities to gain an entrance into the industry.
