Honestly, the journalists aren't even worth it anymore. What essentially got me to actually care about this was the fact that the Indie Games Festival could possibly be rigged, and I think that is the much greater issue to investigate right now.
I'm involved in this to remove the system of connections which include sex as an option. You shouldn't have to sell your body, your income or anything else to get a fair look at what you created, ever. I also got involved because it perfectly outlines a lot of critiques I have against feminists, including the fact that they never ever perform damage control.
God I am seriously sick of this shit.
Man that's gotta be the stupidest form of rhetoric I've ever seen. "You know who wasn't a social justice warrior? Hitler. You don't want to become Hitler do you?" Is this shit satire or something?
It has to be. It would be like saying Hitler was a SJW because he believed one group should be dead. Just like how SJWs want gamers dea- oh.
No offense, but I think everyone is getting a little bit to paranoid about the involvement of people on the right.
No offense, but I think everyone is getting a little bit to paranoid about the involvement of people on the right.
Considering this entire thing is occurring because people are refusing to be sceptical of others on their "side", it's healthy to be concerned about a group of people who, historically, have relatively negative views of gaming and equality as a whole suddenly showing massive amounts of interest in gaming when it means they can take shots at social justice movements unhindered.
i dont think american conservatives hate gaming. infact it was democrats who tried to pass video game censorship/damage their rep (Hilary clinton is one)
Republicans and conservatives have tried as well. Its just that one was more famous because it was at the federal level. Most of the pushes from Repubs have been on state level.
Reminder that Jaffe is the same guy who was yellin about how shitty they are here: https://soundcloud.com/ben-kuchera/jaffe-confrontation hes also the guy who made twisted metal and god of war

Pretty much this and send as much as you can to the advertisers.
Jaffe was a guest star on The Tester right?
Jaffe was a guest star on The Tester right?
yup in the twisted metal episode
Pretty much this and send as much as you can to the advertisers.
Please do this. I've hesitated to post in this thread for a while because I'm pretty sure I fall on the other side of the divide to most of the people in this thread. That is, I think feminist (or any social or political) critique of videogames is incredibly valuable. Corruption is abhorrent, but I also recognize that it can't be sensibly discussed in the midst of this storm (as people on both sides demonstrate daily). Having said that, I lurk here because I find it to be the sensible side of the GG movement and I recognize, too, that the movement has valid points and has uncovered plenty of evidence of actual corruption. The part that makes the movement seem really ugly, though, is the method of attack on twitter. Going after individual writers, rejoicing when they leave games criticism (even people completely incidental to the GG thing like Mattie Brice) puts what I guess you could call the moderate end of the SJW people on the defensive. I recognize there's a danger in seeming to go into standby mode (where the mass-twitter campaigns cease, briefly) since 'Game Journalism' can theoretically just declare victory and move on without addressing the real concerns. That kind of is what needs to happen to draw anything productive out of this, though. I mean, a bunch of people have been driven from games but (so far at least) it's only made those that remain hunker down and an even wider divide between the groups seems to emerge daily. What you want is a change in culture, not just a rotation in individuals behaving shadily. I see plenty of SJ people distressed at some of the revelations (especially the IGF stuff) but feeling that the endgoal of the GG people is to basically drive anything but 'objective reviews' out of videogames. I mean, I've been forced into a position to defend Kotaku - which is just an unquestionably shitty website - by virtue of how entrenched people have become. If you want to change the culture, I think you need to go after institutions - your development studios and websites - not developers and writers.
I agree with a lot of points but I more stock in looking toward the future which means education, changing how people feel via peer involvement and generally making society as a whole more welcoming will do more good changes to society than any amount of pressure you place on an institution.
The word should definitely be spread around. As long as no one goes calling them out on it though. It might get unpleasant otherwise, cleansing the ranks and splitting the movement is not the best kind of accusations to face.
:colbert:

Thankyou to everyone for simply talking about this, and especially to the sleuths here looking up shit and creating images/pastebins/etc. Although I really haven't been following it due to lack of time, I still feel strongly about this.
this is great despite being made by anti-gamergate people
Now i don't know how things work over at Gearbox, but if i was Randy Pitchford, Anthony Burch would be cleaning his fucking desk right now. One thing is being a retard on his personal twitter, but vandalizing a company website is no go, no matter what.
Randy Pitchford fucking loves Anthony Burch. Without Borderlands Gearbox would be dead in the water, so Burch pretty much has freedom from anything. He'll be tooting his SJW horn for years.

You say that, but it's already been proven. Burch wrote 4 DLC's using the exact same style, and they were all met with praise from audiences and reviwers. Burch's incredibly shitty BBT esque style of writing is hugely popular with young gamers, but most importantly, non male gamers. Women love borderlands. THey'd never get rid of him for being a fuck.

In the course of this whole controversy, I've never seen such a condensed amount of earth-shattering stupidity posted in the Internet in my entire life (ESPECIALLY from Faraci), but this MIGHT be the absolute worst thing I've ever read thus far. I emphasize "might", because there's so much stupid shit being said that I can't keep track of it all.
the escapist is the only site taking this seriously so far i know who to go back to when i want to see gaming news
Maybe the next Jimquisition will have Jim finally take a stand on the issue of corruption in games journalism instead of just talking about gamers bullying Anita.

That sho person is not actually a Polygon employee, and seemed to be going out of their way to make Polygon look bad. Their Twitter has since been deleted. Probably some sort of false flag.
