Regardless of the identity you belong to, you're still bound to be insulted. It doesn't matter if they called you a special word or griefed you, it's still intended to be negative. It's worth noting that it can be applied to children in gaming too. Everyone receives it constantly in the FGC, but I never attributed it to my race or gender.

But the more offensive (or 'offensive' in some instances) things we say, the less likely we are to win neutral people over- especially those who stand for social justice but have also done research. We have to stay vigilant and police ourselves a little bit because every slip-up we make is a huge piece of ammunition to be used against us. If we make the genuine social justice people aware that Gamergate is not a hate movement, then we will have actually achieved something- something that's pretty big- by separating a good chunk of slacktivists from the people who actually care. It happened with Sarkessian, it was prototyped by Jennifer Hepler, and it's used by nearly everyone who wants to build victim status now. As much as I hate language policing and think everyone should be the butt of jokes equally, in this kind of shit you have to be attentive just so they don't use it to drown out any actual messages you have. This is still an argument of rhetoric and their moral high-ground bullshit needs to be overcome.
