Huh, trying to be neutral gets you shunned? See, that's funny, because from my knowledge whenever anybody's tried to be neutral, Gamergate people have supported them, whereas anti-Gamergate accuses them of being a sockpuppet.

http://www.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/comments/2o9dk8/in_may_2013_a_man_baited_stephen_totilo_via_email/
In May 2013, a man baited Stephen Totilo via email into publishing an article on Kotaku about how he is a "strong, independent black woman" who learned to drive from GTA4. The article is still up to this day.
pretty dumb how it was this that made twitter want to change policies surrounding hatred and harassment and not, you know, actual honest-to-god terror organizations using their platform for communication and propaganda distribution
Unsafe discussion sounds more like possibility for opposing views (no shit, huh). Its not healthy to be that isolated from other viewpoints. That's what gets you right and left wing nutters. The language may be different but I'll be damned if it doesn't read like my extreme right wing nutter "friends" on facebook. [editline]4th December 2014[/editline] I saw that thing with IGN Australia praising the GTA V ban earlier, IGN US was not even slightly pleased whatsoever.

you can actually read this online too. http://www.spectator.co.uk/features/9376232/free-speech-is-so-last-century-todays-students-want-the-right-to-be-comfortable/ very related to gamergate, specifically anti-gamergate.
I wanted to say something about this earlier, but I'm realizing more and more that Gamergate in the grand scheme of things is relatively unimportant. It's another symptom of a cancer we last saw in universities, where students are increasingly becoming viewed as fragile minds who must be protected from exposure to any dangerous ideas by self-appointed left-wing guardians -- who, ironically, are the same people (or their descendants) who once challenged the establishment and championed freethinking and not listening to anyone over 35. We're seeing the rise of thought police and censorship out there -- it's a lot bigger and a lot worse than people insulting each other on Twitter. There's a war going on outside, and eventually we're gonna have to put down the controller and look at the bigger picture. http://www.spectator.co.uk/australia/australia-features/9187741/the-slow-death-of-free-speech-2/
But, once you get a taste for shutting people up, it's hard to stop. Why bother winning the debate when it's easier to close it down?
Sound familiar?
Which is why horseshoe theory is a thing. The more extreme a person gets, the more likely they are to surround themselves by like-minded individuals and shelter from outside points of view. And since 'extreme' in any direction leads to totalitarian mindset... the ideas will mostly just be the same, silence all opposition by any means necessary, everything else just follows.
It's more like a complete circle than it is a horseshoe imo. Imagine a clock, 12 and 0 are the same (totalitarianism), 11:59 is as far left as you can go, 12:01 is as far right as you can go. [sp]For those software minded people, just imagine an integer over/underflow, or modulo I guess if that tickles your pickle/pickle jar[/sp] This also explains Ian Miles Chong's jump from stormfront territory to tumbrina town, as it really wasn't all that much of a transition in this respect. Either that or he isn't actually a real person, hes an AI with an over/underflowed political alignment variable...

As far as I can tell the situation is far more healthy here in Germany. If I actually see people do stuff like that I may do something about it, but it's not common enough here to just run into it. I don't follow politics that well though. It may be slightly more of an issue there but it's hardly like in the US or Britain. Merkel is a bit too populist though.
Here's something by the one who did that "deep investigation" thing on Sarkeesian: GamerGate: Justice With a Rebel Yell Mea Culpa Style I'm not quite getting the same conclusion from handwriting analysis being not that accredited as the author. Even if the stuff is admitted in court, what you do with it is a different matter and Baggett is still, at the very least, a total douche. (But it's definitely better to slam him for the ridiculous pick-up-artist-ish garbage only, since the rest isn't really that incriminating.) Apart from that, could it be? Yes! Original content on Buzzfeed: GamerGate’s Headquarters Has Been Destroyed By Trolls Despite the headline it's actually not a terrible piece.
Apart from that, could it be? Yes! Original content on Buzzfeed: GamerGate’s Headquarters Has Been Destroyed By Trolls Despite the headline it's actually not a terrible piece.
The author is clearly trying to make another "gamergate is over" article without giving people the opportunity to call him out for being full of shit A quick look at the author's recent articles and I found this, an entire article detailing the posting habits of KiA moderators. Imagine it, he went out of his way to do background checks on all of them to somehow prove his point:
the online activity of its representatives undermine the subreddit’s stated premise and reveal it as a well-orchestrated front for a woman-hating goon squad.
Had a convo with one of the r/games mods on gamerghazi. This shit is ridiculous:
Who said anything about being surprised by that? And who would shitcan me? I was the last moderator to agree to the blanket ban after I realized that these people weren't actually interested in discussing the topic so much as blitzkrieging it. If anything, I would've been closer to a shitcan (if anyone even had the power, ability, or desire to do it) for trying to have the discussion, not banning it. GG has made enemies out of everyone else for no reason other then as an effect of their own stupidity. Don't try to excuse the vitriolic idiocy displayed by this group with petty strawman arguments. The fact is that we tried to give them a chance, they abused it, we shitcanned them. For clarity's sake, since you don't seem to get it: we want to get rid of the whole group, not just problem individuals. You can thank the problem individuals for that. You guys should have shitcanned them a while ago instead of letting them run loose. They're the reason why nobody takes GG seriously and that the movement let it happen is proof enough that they're not one worth following. And especially not one worth putting any real effort into supporting. So a blanket ban it is. You all dug your own grave. Don't start accusing us of it.
http://www.reddit.com/r/GamerGhazi/comments/2o5k7z/i_outed_a_couple_of_gators_in_an_rgames_thread/cmky5qt?context=3 Obviously my replies are deleted because gamerghazi noticed me after awhile and banned me. I still have a screenshot and the saved html of the whole convo though. Thoughts about the current state of reddit... r/games and r/gaming is overwhelmingly pro-gg in it's userbase, it's moderators are all anti-gg, but people are unwilling to migrate en masse for a few reasons. 1. a new gaming subreddit is unlikely to gain the admin illuminati's support, which we've gotten some evidence about how shitty and corrupt they are in regards to dealing with these things 2. all the good names are taken, i guess 3. since they removed reddit.com (the general, catch all subreddit) it's very hard to facilitate a mass migration since r/games obviously bans any posts that suggest going somewhere else. r/kotakuinaction has also been removed from r/all I'd really like to get some facepuncher input on what the hell to do about this, if anything. I was thinking of attempting a new catch all games subreddit on kotaku in action, i know the response would be positive but the issue of who to moderate it, what name to use, and whether or not the reddit admins would kill it are still relevant. Meh. There's also the issue of attempting to market it to r/games and r/gaming users without a general reddit.com subreddit.

Rifftrax live (movie theater live event thing) just did a subtle gamergate joke during Santa Claus vs satan I'll describe more when it's over
Rifftrax live (movie theater live event thing) just did a subtle gamergate joke during Santa Claus vs satan I'll describe more when it's over
I fucking knew that would happen. Bill Corbett's pretty anti GG. That's why I didn't want to go. Hopefully it wasn't too inflammatory, was it? I'm hoping it's something that can laughed at when this is all over and all the moderate anti-gg's realize how wrong they were (because the extremists never will).

If you're first exposure to this batshit crazy almost religious world view is GG, you could be forgiven for thinking its a new thing, but its really not. Its a problem that has been becoming progressively worse in the US and even a large portion of europe for quite some time.
Stephen Tortinos of Kotaku posted a article about a story that was fake. https://archive.today/kCwt3 the story was sent by a indie dev. I recall an admin posting a link to a facepunch-made game review site. Does anyone know who he was/what the site was? I expressed interested in reviewing for another facepunch-made site and it sorta inevitably fell through, but I'd like to see if I could give it another shot.
