I honestly think the direction of the violence is the most defined difference between manhunt, postal, gta and hatred
Why's everyone ignoring this point?
I honestly think the direction of the violence is the most defined difference between manhunt, postal, gta and hatred
Why's everyone ignoring this point?
Its inconvenient. Context matters until it becomes inconvenient. The context for Bayonetta's character matters until Anita Sarkeesian decides she needs to look good for feminists. The context for the actions in violent games matters, until one gets removed because of said context, then the context is not only irrelevant, but should be actively ignored.
How was it ever censorship?
PS I find it hilarious how when those darn SJWs "pressure" Valve to take Hatred off of Greenlight, GG is outraged. But when GG and others pressure Valve to put it back up, there is nothing wrong there.
It was because of misinformation from the press that touted it as a "neonazi minority civilian killing simulator" when it wasn't true at all. There are numerous people (including devs) who didn't read past the article title and believed the smear piece as a god-given fact. If it is a bad game, then you don't need to spread dishonest rumors about it to give it a bad reputation.

Applying your reasoning to this problem, Modern Warfare 2 never should have made it to Steam. That first level was completely unnecessary.
Also pretty much the entire first Postal game.
someone got a FOIA request back involving gamergate

the 4chan party van is coming for someone.
Oh god. The Feds are actually actively working.
Welp, see you guys in two years when the arrests start happening :v:
It will be intersting to see how it goes down ,GG may have stirred up the hornets nest but the FBI has a lot more tools and manpower to work with.
My money is on racketeering and some rather dubious claims about where money is going, also if the FTC had gotten involved it was obvious that not 100% of everything was on the up and up.
If this is real it's going to put a smile on my face. That means the FBI is building a case. I hope this goes somewhere.
It gets me wondering if Cernovich's statement about FBI informants might actually be true. It's definitely very plausible now.

Congrats, GG. You are now a boogie man like the Militia Movement.
8chan's only global rule is to keep it legal. If you don't like it, just don't go there, there's plenty of sites that do censor stuff like that because of people's sensibilities. Personally i think it's cool we have at least one big site where anything that won't (directly, anyways) incite the wrath of law enforcement goes.

Its kinda hard to keep track of all the goalpost moving in this page's discussion so i won't quote anyone in particular. Suffice it to say, semantically valve's removal of hatred with a double standard basis was censorship, by dictionary definition. If you want to argue that it's not "important censorship", and that there is some difference in importance between government and private censored works, that's another story. And you'd be right, there is "a difference", and to what degree effect and importance that difference is is a different topic worthy of discussion.
It's just really silly to see people try to change definitions of words because they don't like the impact of the connotations the word has on their argument. I realize language is shit but we have to communicate using a standard set of definitions so get with the program.
Paedophilia disgusts me, but individuals with it have no choice about feeling it, and as long as what they're doing isn't harming any real children or people, I don't think they should be punished just for existing. I feel a bit iffy about there being a board dedicated to them, but at least then Hotwheels could (presumably?) track their IP if they start talking about legitimate illegal shit. It's an amazing display of integrity, definitely.
Besides, Nazism also disgusts me (though not quite in the same way), and I presume that they have a board as well. Again, not something I want to visit, but they have a right to exist and speak their minds as long as they're not harming anybody.
Hi, Jaroslaw,
Yesterday I heard that we were taking Hatred down from Greenlight. Since I wasn’t up to speed, I asked around internally to find out why we had done that. It turns out that it wasn’t a good decision, and we’ll be putting Hatred back up. My apologies to you and your team. Steam is about creating tools for content creators and customers.
Good luck with your game
Gabe

There’s no indication of what led to the change of heart, but the auto-reply on Destructive Creations boss Jaroslaw Zielinski’s email reads: “Where’s the line?” The answer: “No killing children or animals.”
Semi-offtopic: I fucking love how 4chan refers to the FBI as the Party Van. :v:
No killing children, yeah I can see that.
But animals? Weird.

Shooting domestic animals is rather cuntish, no matter how you slice it.
You just don't shoot the dog.
Although, Wild Animals are a lot more "fair game" i suppose, for Hunting or self defense. I mean, i've not seen anyone moan about Animals in say, Far Cry.
A victory against censorship!
Not quite since it would still be available elsewhere, but it's certainly a victory for consistency.
Received an email from the company PR Outreach that indicates Gabe did indeed intervene on Hatreds behalf.
so there you have it. we can put this behind us now, since it's now proven not to be a censorship issue any longer.
a reminder that even valve, our favorite company, isnt exempt from making poor decisions.

So you don't shoot the family dog. The children's parents are fair game, though.
I don't think I'm the only one that's disturbed by this kind of logic.

in the states it's kind of the same deal with what you can show on television and what you can't. gore can be okay, jack bauer can even shoot terrorists in the face, but as soon as a titty shows up baby jesus weeps.
I don't know exactly how related to gg it is, but @PixelGoth went nitpicking and found 8chan's perfectly legal but kind of gross and definitely triggering pedo discussion board, and is bitching at patreon for not taking down 8chan's patreon page. It's probably a convoluted attempt at fucking up gamergate activity since 8chan is the GG HQ or whatever.
Either way it backfired and a lot of backers for feminists/lazy devs/artists/that bitch vivian james are pulling support because "omg patreon supports pedos". Said patreon owners are trying to damage control, it's very funny. Grace stands from her perch of financial stability(???), mad at others who have theirs crumbling under their feet because of her

This got RT'd into my twitter timeline, after two or three tweets from other, smaller, more deserving artists lamenting that a move to another service is something pretty fucking hard to do, that'd probably leave them with less backers=less money=less or no time to dedicate to their art.
Can you imagine being such a parasite that after scamming your backers and playing the victim "the irs is going to ruin me anyway so go ahead and sue me! :(((" instead of working hard to turn it around you spend all fucking day whining on twitter
I'm so fucking mad at this. These people haven't done a single day of proper work in their entire life and have no idea what hardship really is, no wonder getting offended is such a terrible thing to them

Although we don't really know if they're investigating some of the Anti-GG people, or some of the GG people, or both.
Did Pixie Jenni do anything besides appearing on a livestream with Sargon? I tried to look up why she's relevant to GG.
Did Pixie Jenni do anything besides appearing on a livestream with Sargon? I tried to look up why she's relevant to GG.
Apparently not. She's just baiting people on Twitter it seems and getting replies to the effect of "you're not relevant". Or something.
When doing research would invalidate the point you're trying to make, better do no research at all! Games journalism in 2014!

You still effectively stole people's money, so shut the fuck up before you judge someone else.
Seriously though, where the fuck is the IRS on this? I want to see her squirm.

Law enforcement is extremely slow, in Internet terms.
They are almost certainly going to sue her eventually, since by now a few people should have tipped them off.
It's quite possible that they have enough cases queued up that it will take a while though.
There's also the holiday season (or whatever it's called) incoming, which I assume will reduce their throughput for a while.
