Corruption in gaming journalism discussion and update thread.

I'd be more interested to hear why kickstarter hasn't done anything about it, since what she did was clrealy against the guidelines that were updated not too long ago
Though I'm not exactly surprised to see that kickstarter's guidelines are pointless. Of course if kickstarter just came out and said "if you get scammed then too bad for you" nobody would use their service.

If they're so sure about and against the game trying its best to be controversial why are they creating controversy about it with their article :V
Fellow misogynists, I have bad news. Something has passed away this week and it wasn't Gamers.
This week it's shock culture

Sometimes you run out of stories but still need to get paid
"Click for more on how Polygon writes opinion pieces."
yeah no
Applying your reasoning to this problem, Modern Warfare 2 never should have made it to Steam. That first level was completely unnecessary.
Also pretty much the entire first Postal game.
I'm going to throw my 5 cents in and state to everyone here that getting removed from Steam is actually a dealbreaker when it comes to breaking even.
Many, MANY independent developers have lamanted and stated clearly that getting on Steam is not only a hassle but not doing so hits their wallet so hard that they're forced to because of the sheer amount of people who use steam.
So yes, as Gabe Newell pointed out himself, this was a bad move because it went against their own ToS.

I am waiting for the horde of articles appearing titled "Everyone and everything is dead."

i really don't like this notion, that one game shows how all games are
i really don't like this notion, that one game shows how all games are
Yeah my first game ever was Dwarf fortress and when I realised not all games randomly gen their worlds according to realistic geological and scientifical principles I was absolutely baffled.
For me, gaming was dead before it even begun.

So if Hatred is a sign of how games are all about shock culture, why isn't The Vanishing of Ethan Carter a sign of how games are all about art and meaning?
So if Hatred is a sign of how games are all about shock culture, why isn't The Vanishing of Ethan Carter a sign of how games are all about art and meaning?
Can't find the tweet where he said he didn't need to play The Vanishing of Ethan Carter anymore.

Because using one game to judge entire industry is stupid*, duh.
*unless you use it to further your own agenda

so there you have it. we can put this behind us now, since it's now proven not to be a censorship issue any longer.

Can I just point out how mature Destructive has been through this? Both statements they released were amicable and they seem genuinely happy to be working with Valve.
I didn't care about the game before but I'll give it a vote on Greenlight. Dudes definitely deserve a shot.
Keep in mind that in 2014 we had a style of cinema referred to as "torture porn" come and go.
No? Torture porn/revenge porn films are decades old, going back to at least the 70's as a cohesive genre. I don't know how popular they are financially but they are still being made, by big names in Hollywood no less.
Making a dent with this sort of content is nearly impossible.
The entire article seems like an indictment against Hatred's existence when in reality it seems really popular. If not the game, atleast the idea of a game like it. The article reads like it's written by someone in a bubble.
So did metalgate blow over yet or is it still simmering?

Hes been pretty outspoken about being anti-gamersgate, but that page was purely proactive and I completely agree with him it shouldn't exist, however do not agree he should have deleted it. The page is completely biased (to be expected, but not very representative.) He should have informed other editors of it's existence and gotten them to fix it before outright deleting it.

Try the 20's. Went mainstream in the 70's.

Wikipedia is still a worthwhile endeavour. It's not the only source that somebody should trust for anything more than an info binge, no, but just because it can sometimes be wrong or biased doesn't mean that the whole thing goes down the drain. This is just what happens when something can be edited by anyone.
people are realizing gamergate won

Too bad I'm blocked because of who I follow or I'd be able to see what she posted.
Archive.org is blocked by the networking team for some reason. I could bother them because they're two cubicles over but a site just had a bit of a meltdown and they're preoccupied. Will check it out later though.

In Deus Ex you can kill children and it's hailed as the best RPG ever.
And surprisingly hasn't been blamed for any killing sprees.
