Raidyr, simply put any actual CP is not allowed on the site and does in fact get removed. So any claim that the site allows CP is false, if you think users are posing CP then go report it yourself.
Fredrick himself said he finds pedophilia disgusting but allows the pedis their own board as long as they break no global rules. This breaks no laws and it doesn't matter if it's gross, he's upholding his free speech standard.
Of course the moral police make the situation sound as if he's trying to run a porn board just to diddle kiddies, they mis-represent situations often.
A statement like this seems to fly in the face of reality. He is perfectly fine with child porn, up until a certain point.
Oh you know how this has ended? How foreboding. Now I'm really worried about the imageboard that tacitly approves of child pornography.
I don't know what he should do. I'm not his lawyer. What seems abundantly clear is that he has absolutely no interest in removing CP according to his own statements, because what would be child porn north of the border is "free speech" in the US.
Hotwheels is probably just as unhappy as you are about the fact that there's pedophiles on his site, but allowing people to talk about whatever they want is the basis of the entire site. personally i'd be elated if all those boards got nuked but that'd compromise the purpose of the site, anarchy.
and even if you got rid of them these people would just go be depraved somewhere else, wouldn't really solve anything
I think we're getting a bit off-track here. You want to criticize 8chan's policy on child porn? Go right ahead. But srhbutts or whoever is not just criticizing the policy, he's attempting to promote the idea that all GGers support the posting of child porn because of the policy of a website that has GGers on it. The policy was not put in place because of gamergate and it is not approved by everyone who came because of gamergate. The site isn't even visited by everyone involved with gamergate. It's not even a general user-related issue because they don't make the rules unless they're a board owner (and even then they don't affect other boards). This is an issue to take up with hotweels, not use as ammunition against a related group of people.

Look, you can get all moral warrior and be righteous about this, but it isn't technically breaking the law. Is that a problem? Maybe, complain about the law, not the guy who's fucking following the law.
I don't support pedo's or their actions but I don't think you can lump brennan in with them on this.
[editline]23rd December 2014[/editline]
You can't pretend to care about free speech and then throw it away as soon as you find something offensive. that's part of what GG has been about for me at least.
What flies in the face of reality is your failure to recognize that an actual cp board violates US law where the 8chan servers are hosted.
I guess "pedophile sympathizer" is the new "cis white male misogynerd" of the week. Like, don't you realize why this train of thought makes no sense? It's a chan where everything legal goes, what the fuck is wrong with that, if you want to change the rules then youll have to put your regulation through the gamut of congress (as shitty as it is).
I never called anyone a pedophile sympathizer so don't put words in my mouth.
What the fuck is wrong with that? The fucking child porn part is whats wrong with that.
Please, let's not turn this into another loli argument. The rule is that he removes stuff which is illegal in the US, and loli is not illegal in the US, therefore, whilst fucking gross, it's not removed.
It's not just loli.

I don't care about the moral police and their "mis-representations". I don't care why 8chan was formed or what their excuse is. If you are going to host an imageboard you have to take responsbility for the images uploaded. His "free speech standard" is garbage.

It would be one less outlet for exploited children. That's solving something. But no, because it's borderline legal in the country the servers are hosted in it's defended because "free speech".

I didn't once mention Gamergate in any of my posts. I'm pro-GG. I know the only reason 8chan is relevant to Gamergate is because pro-GG folks were shunted away from sites like 4chan and Reddit.
But I'm not going to defend the site or it's shitty "free speech standard" because of that. Hotwheels needs to police that shit and fast.

I'm not lumping Brennan in with anyone. I'm stating the objective fact that he operates a website that tacitly approves the uploading and exchange of pictures of sexually-exploited underage children.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree then because I'm pro-GG and think 8chan's moderation policy (or lackthereof) is abhorrent. I said the same thing about Reddit and it's insipid "free speech" policies.
What exactly are you talking about, Raidyr? Because the site already does everything within it's power to remove CP.
What is it that they don't remove that you're so upset about?

By that logic, Google tacitly supports the sexual exploitation of children. That's ridiculous.

One goes away, another pops up, that's the nature of the internet. At the very least on 8chan they're moderated and illegal material is removed. Gonna stop posting now, threads getting too off-topic

The problem is that 8chan's actually keeping up with the idea of "free speech" where as reddit never did in anyway.
Yeah, it turns out free speech is capable of ugly things. That's a sad truth and a price we pay to have the freedoms we care about. I think what Brennan's doing must suck for him. He's doing what he sees as right, upholding free speech to the letter of the law and being told he's human garbage for it, he knows that's the price you pay for upholding free speech, people are allowed to hurl whatever they want. At the same time though, the upholding of free speech is no longer seen as something good, societially, many people don't seem to want it because they're afraid of the things that can happen with it. To me, this is terrible because losing free speech is a huge deal.
I'm in Canada, and if this was being hosted in Canada, go ahead, prosecute if he broke the law, but as it is, he's toeing the line and holding up his principles at the same time and as ugly as that truth might be, we should be supportive of free speech.

According to Brennan himself, he only removes content that would be illegal within the US, and even then under very loose federal laws. In Canada and some states it would be illegal.
My problem is with the stuff they don't remove because it barely meets these shaky federal laws. Just because his site can't be touched in the US doesn't make it right.

Child porn is illegal in the US. So what are you referring to? At least be specific about what's bothering you.
Depictions of skeletons and time travel are illegal in China. I don't see why that's relevant to whether or not they should be banned on 8chan.

I get the idea of free speech being too important to lose based on the bad parts that come with but I think it's overdramatic to say that if 8chan policed their content a little bit more than they do already that we are really losing anything.
Is one less place where pedophiles can exchange illicit pictures really that bad?

Like this is what I mean. Free speech is super important but we draw arbitrary lines over it all the time. Even right now Brennan is compromising on his free speech ideals because he doesn't want to get fucked by the Feds.

Yeah, I can support banning that.
Whether something is or is not illegal has nothing to do with whether it is or is not immoral, that's my point. This shit is fucked up because it's the sexual exploitation of children, not because it's illegal in Canada.

why does he even bother editing pictures of child porn when he knows it will get him in trouble?
why not contact 8chan or any law enforcement?

The people we are dealing with aren't the sharpest tools in the box.
They rarely plan several steps ahead. Hence all the blunders they do.

That post wasn't directed at you specifically. I know everyone understands that 8chan's policy on CP isn't related to gamergate, that wasn't my point. My point was that this thread doesn't need to reach a consensus on the subject because it doesn't mean anything here. We've heard both sides to this argument, and that's probably as far as we're going to get. Even if we do reach a consensus, 8chan's not going to care about our opinion.
Contrary to popular belief in some journalistic circles, the First Amendment is not a license to break the law. Reporters who trespass, wiretap or violate other laws that apply to the public generally aren't immune from prosecution simply because they were gathering news at the time. Been seeing that shift of change for quite a bit now, hopefully it keeps up (it probably won't, but maybe!) People seem to actually be reading why people are angry and look beyond "That anon user threatened/harassed a female dev!" It still baffles me that people believe the narrative that people were attacking them just because they were females, and not because people just hated their character. Not saying it's right - but the way they were acting, on the internet no-less, they were borderline asking for it.
If there is anything I learned from this it's what I see - people and companies dropping their masks and revealing their real goals and ambitions - now I know who to buy from and view. (Realistically "buy" only applies to sites such as patreon for knee-jerking rules with little to no warning, while view is obvious.)
I decided to give some humor.
Those aGG people definitely are acting lime CHILDREN over CP.
(I know its terrible I'm drunk on gin.)

this is one of the best videos on gamergate i have seen

Oh, hey. Look. It's another public person who at first declared their support for gamergate and in turn received multiple death threats! And this time it's Boogie, who would have thought?
The day before I was banned my behavior was a little erratic. edit:
Might as well put the entire post here since it mentions his reasons for getting banned on NeoGAF.
Hi guys. Boogie here. I am typing this from my phone on the road well my wife is driving, so please expect plenty of mistakes.
First off I would like to say that the thread speaks for itself. I don't know if this rental still available as I no longer visit NeoGAF, but if it is you can see everything I said there clearly.
The day before I was banned my behavior was a little erratic. This had to do with the overwhelming number of death threats we received that week, that had included my personal address as well as my wife's work address. I was certainly flustered on the day I got banned dealing with this nonsense.
However as I have shared my painting had nothing to do with any of this. Since I cannot acquire the link myself I cannot show you those reasons because we are traveling. But if you check my Twitter feed you will clearly see the reasons I was banned.
These reasons never mentioned me being flustered about death threats, or any made up suicidal behavior. It only mentions my supposed support of gamergate.
The truth is simply this. I was banned from neogaf because I did not wholeheartedly agree with everything they had to say and instead expressed my own neutral opinions about the topic. This was perceived as a "support of the harassment of women". At least that's what they said in the note they gave me when they banned me. They are welcome to unban me at anytime and I will resume using their board. I'm certainly not feeling suicidal now nor have I ever felt that way, so they have no reason to keep me banned right?
Either way guys thank you so much for your support. I truly appreciate it.
