When I look at what a lot of people call an 'SJW', I see less somebody who fights for social justice and more somebody who just wants a new way to stick things into little boxes- [I]the very thing we're fighting against[/I]. It removes the ties to something actually good (social justice), and explains precisely what a lot of them appear to be. Failing that, "hypocrites" also works. "Liars". "Tricky dicks". It's as pure an oxymoron as it gets; you don't spread tolerance by waging war, you do so by being civil and by proving your point through rational debate. Why do you think the most well-known and successful social movements are non-violent ones? Because it's more efficient to make people tolerant towards you by showing your humanity than by hurting and humiliating them. These people are a travesty to social progress, they adopt a scapegoat mentality not because it actually further their pretended goal, but because it strengthen their cultish structure. No genuinely progressive people would identify as that.

If you leave the "social justice" component out of their denomination people will think you're talking about regular internet assholes. Whereas if you call them SJW or something similar you highlight the fact that they use social justice as a shield for their misbehaviour.

In the same way that American lawmakers love putting hidden clauses in the 'American Patriotism Act' so that anybody who speaks out against can immediately be shot down, putting something as positive and important as social justice in the description of a terrible person just makes it easy for them to say [B]"Well, look! People who fall for this kind of rhetoric probably won't be interested in rational discourse anyway, if they're not already part of the echo chamber. Besides, I don't really like "social justice" as a term, it seems kinda vague to me. Does it means it's a form of justice that's enacted outside of actual justice? I prefer the terms feminism, egalitarianism, tolerance or others in the same vein, I don't really see what "justice" has to do with this kind of movements. It also gives off the impression that someone should be put on trial and punished in this whole ordeal, that retaliation is necessary even though it only fuels hatred and goes against the spread of tolerance among the community. This term doesn't seem very fitting to me.

In my opinion, it's about as sensible as 'civil rights', which served to separate the movement from, say, property rights. I think people use the word justice to make it sound stronger, because whilst tolerance and egalitarianism, amongst other words, are all very apt for describing the desired end result, justice implies that this is, well, morally just. Personally, I like the term, but like 'feminism' it carries a risk of being poisoned by some particularly nasty individuals. My opinion is- we can't go about saying social justice has been ruined when people have been saying the same thing about Gamergate practically since it began. We have to decide what our stance is, and stick to it or change it outright; we can't say that something's okay in one instance and not in another with no reason as to why. Regressive people are always going to try and pick faults in the pettiest things to try and make it seem like the battle has already been won. Justice does not necessarily mean retaliation, but merely the happiness of any victims of a prior injustice.
