Japan (the older generation at least) is conservative as hell, but her reason isn't the reason. Yeah that quote was brought up before. You're not gonna hear much positivity about places like Japan, Korea, China, India, central asia, the middle east, or eastern europe from these guys. In spite of their sympathy for the perceived misfortunes of the people living in these places, their culture is just too incompatible to be considered worthy of their respect. You [I]might[/I] see a kind remark made about africa, if only because lots of people aren't educated about africa at all. It's the exact opposite of places like San Francisco and Sweden, where the general willingness to "do the right thing" is applauded, but the perceived privilege of the people living there is considered a problem. This is where the whole "cultural marxist" label certain people apply to SJWs falls apart. The way cultures are being handled here isn't marxist, it's extremely confused, inconsistent, and arbitrary.

Their hearts are in the right place generally, like they're trying to do good things. But for some reason they think it excuses them from actually having the barest idea of what they're talking about. I'm no fucking expert on Japanese culture, and I certainty wouldn't deny that they've got some fucking problems. But atom bombs aside, there is no way to reasonably argue that their loss in WWII made them MORE conservative. Yknow, considering the drafting of a liberal, democratic constitution in the wake of the Allied victory. If anything, the postwar occupation of Japan was probably one of the most massive and as far as I'm aware surprisingly successful examples of an external force exerting internal political change on another country, and it was all in the name of classical liberalism more than anything else.

i think it's foolish to try compare two completely different cultures. it usually ends up with "wow they're so progressive [in one specific area]" versus "wow they're so behind in [another specific area]". you can't just champion or attack a culture based on one or two things, and you certainly can't try to fit the values you grew up with onto another culture (ethnocentrism is bad mmmk).
