Is it an attack or just the net shitting itself?
Is it an attack or just the net shitting itself?
No, it's a DDoS. I'm in the IRC and can confirm.
An hour of downtime was due to the support guy HW was on the phone with taking an hour long coffee break. :v:
Oh, I thought it was something to do with l'advenant sending the /pol/acks into a panic.
I wonder if a third party troll or SJW is doing the DDOS
Either way I hope no one at 8chan is discouraged.
8chan up
it also effected the entire 2ch network
using CES2015 hashtag really struck a nerve

Actually fixing issues with low representation is something that should have been done in the early 90s you cant magically wave a wand and magically everyone is equally represented you have to start when they are kids, there isnt a bunch of trained qualified and experienced professionals homeless on the streets and working fast food because white males said no,at some point they were told "[arbitrary physical attribute] defines you so dont even try".If you want more diversity in gaming the solution is not to astroturf it in or kill off the larger segments the solution is to teach and train more individuals who arnt as represented. These are things that arn being done and it is just mindboggling why they would choose to destroy instead of build.
Nonsense, five-year plans are obviously the way of the future.

A huge problem is that astroturfed diveristy tends to bleed out very soon after they get in.
A prominent example of this is black scholarships in the US. These are meant to help poor blacks get a great education by sending them off to good schools to learn and help add more diversity to colleges. Unfortunately, these students are not mentally prepared to be suddenly shoved into a completely foreign culture and the academic rigors are a lot tougher than the shithole high schools they were at. They often drop out by the end of their first semester and go to something like a local (for them) community college or a trade school because it's much more familiar to them. The scholarship groups have even tried to make black students stay by paying for EVERYTHING and adding incentives like free laptops; but no matter what they add, the programs have a huge bleedoff, with some students suddenly dissapearing as soon as after the first break in the semester.
This can be seen as early as high school as well. In the US, there are special classes called Advanced Placement classes (or AP for short) that students can take in high school that lets them get credit for college at the end if a students passes a test at the end. AP classes are considered more rigorous compared to regular classes. There aren't a lot of blacks taking the classes for various reasons. At least one state, Florida, has been trying to remedy this by brute-forcing blacks to get in so that more blacks succeed academically. Well, it turns out these people are woefully unprepared for AP classes, bomb horribly on the test (even if they aced the class), and don't get the type of grades administration was expecting. The state's attempt at trying to add diversity to AP classes and helping a disadvantaged group succeeed backfired horribly, but is still continued per county because school boards get more money if they have large amount of students enrolled in AP classes.
I imagine Intel's current intitiave will end up in the same ways. They'll brute-force several women that don't have the skills needed to succeed in high-end places like Google into a completely foreign environment. The women will quickly drop out after feeling very uncomfortable in such an alien place and learning that their skills are trash compared to their co-workers. Out-of-touch feminst groups that have zero understanding of how tech culture and companies operate but think they have the answer to gender diversity in tech will send out a wave of articles poo-pooing tech companies for being misogynic pigs, and the whole cycle will begin anew.
Basically, diversity is a noble goal, but you need to do it right. Shoving (insert group here) into a culture and environment that is completely alien to them will cause them to GTFO of there as soon as an opportunity presents itself, if they don't completely fail first. For women in tech, you need to grow a generation of women interested in tinkering and making their own things instead of catapulting people like Jessica, a programmer that customizes software for the local news station in Podunk, Southern USA, into places like Google, Apple, and Microsoft, then wondering why she gets out of there as soon as she can.

To be fair 8chans removal was due to the content of the patdeon itself rather than off site behaviour, and he is still allowed to remake the page (supposedly)
We have confirmation she received a warning though, if she screws up again we will see what happens

I'd be more worried that certain people are encouraged by this :tinfoil:
(8chan is still/again down. I wonder how long they can sustain this.)

Need to do more research, bit confused.

To be more fair, the content of 8chan is up to the users. There was nothing that violated patreon's ToS in 8chan's code. They have no justification , they are just trying to appease the sjw horde.

Not really, Patreon's community guidelines are just really strict now. The user content on the site counts due to being linked from the Patreon/the codebase.

Youporn's content is up to the users aswell, wanna bet if they would get on patreon?
Untill there's some solid evidence of favoritism then as far as I'm concerned this talk of patreon having double standards is unfounded bullshit.
Two cases that had nothing in common and were met with a different response is not proof.
The cat videos thing was bullshit favoritism, but that's the nature of their rules, it's setup to be vague so it's at the discretion of the website. Every site does it, it's not special. You can not use the website, though.

I dont know if you really like patreon or what, because this is bull. They became strict right after a bunch of SJWs on patreon complained en masse that 8chan was being allowed to receive money, and then they write new rules that are enforced on 8chan first, then they say no abusing loopholes, then when one of the people who originally asked for the new tos violates the ToS they just get a warning and carry on?

They were planning it for awhile, they removed a lot of popular porn patreons. It was a knee-jerk reaction to these complaints and basically was like "Oh yeah we have reason to enforce it now!"
Again, it's favoritism, blatantly.
Since you insist on trying to undermine my reputation in order to get your way in the whole ridiculous affair that is gamergate, let me be clear: I will not sit back and let either side of the dispute libel article subjects, edit-war, insult or harass each other on talk pages, disrupt the project space with frivolous complaints, or do anything else which disrupts articles, distracts editors from their work in building and maintaining the encyclopaedia, or causes harm to real people. Anybody who behaves in such a manner can expect to face sanctions proportionate to the severity of their disruption. If people want to call each other misogynists and feminazis and libel/doxx/harass each other, that's just fine, but do it on Reddit or 8chan or Twitter or some other cesspit, because it will not be tolerated on Wikipedia, and until ArbCom get their finger out of their arse, it's up to administrators to deal with this nonsense. Now I must insist that if you wish to make further allegations against me, you make them with evidence in the appropriate forum, otherwise I will be forced to assume that you are personally attacking me and will take the matter to an appropriate noticeboard and ask for sanctions against you. Note that none of this makes me an involved administrator for anything that does not directly relate to me or my actions. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 13:31, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
I researched this a bit more, basically hes way out of line blocking him, trying to contact a user to get information privately, it's ridiculous to assume that he cannot see deleted content by emailing a user.
The rest of it is a personal vendetta for both of them, and really should be ignored. HJ isn't even the blocking admin.

Wow, even Facepunch has higher standards than Wikipedia when it comes to management it seems.
They seriously need to clean house of these people, because that kind of stuff shouldn't fly anywhere, much less in/around an encyclopaedia.
