Steve Gaynor has obviously been out of USA politics for the past 40 years. Most people are legitimately upset when they find out critically acclaimed pundits are donating money to PAC's. Y'know, money is speech and all that. Hell, most liberals despise PAC's as a concept. If you're even just an ounce further leftist than the Democratic party, then you're more than willing to dismantle all PAC's (whether Union-affiliated, pro-Obama, pro-GOP, etc) because the sheer idea of money = speech is frighteningly problematic.

/r/games mods responded to the reddit corruption by censoring it: http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/2fqixc/gamergate_reddit_admins_outed_as_corrupt/
Can you give me some examples? If you post in a thread where you have a minority opinion you're naturally going to get hit with a mountain of disagree's, dumbs, insults and counter-arguments.
I've not seen many strong counter-arguments myself. Only a few from a small group of people actually trying. Instead loads of people are hiding behind ratings. If you've got enough of an opinion to rate someone, you sure as shit can vocalise that opinion. And there's 91 pages of that thread to dig through, I'm not gonna spend an entire evening just to satisfy you, the consistent dumb rating is more than enough really. I made a relatively reasonable post earlier asking people "hey, stop grouping these assholes with the social justice movements, they've basically been disowned by people who care", and was met with two replies, and a dozen disagrees without and substantiation. Tell me, how does that make me feel like you guys are actually worth my time? When you hide behind ratings rather than debating like you all claim to want to?
Really this wasn't and isn't always so. Way back you couldn't even mention being a neo-nazi without getting a permaban no questions asked
I've seen a few of those nazi bans. It seems like the mods are usually just banning a threadshitter and making the ban reason "Nazi" as a joke. Even then... they're Nazis.
gone home dev wakes from his slumber to act like a idiot
For some reason I always read these in the anime characters voice.
The problem is that people always bring in misogyny, they drag in 'Well if Zoe was a man this wouldn't be happening'. The arguments are either over used, loaded questions or filled with assumptions. At the same time, this thread is literally filled with borderline Illuminati Conspiracy theory bullshit about censorship and the like, when its really just corruption and people who are way to close to eacother. The other issue is that for a lot of websites, the stuff we're presenting would get ignored and removed/banned from reddit and the like. There are very few places that are willing to hold onto the facts and interviews that Reimu has posted. We do need to stop saying SJW, that needs to end because these people who are abusing others to seem superior on both sides are just assholes. End all be all, one doesn't represent real social justice and the other does have groups of conservatives and MRAs using this as ammunition to further their foolish endeavors.
While it is safe to say that the current focus on the sites being awful has little to do with misogyny, it does seem highly suspect that the whole thing only caught traction when a woman did it. Not when any of the hundreds of previous examples we have from AAA bribing happened. There are certain misogynistic undertones to some of the "investigation" going on, but that does all end up sounding like the conspiracy nonsense you mentioned, so it can be mostly ignored. It is a shame that a lot of other sites are actively trying to prevent discourse, deleting everything wont make it go away. But it will make you look worse. If the users get rowdy, you ban them. If the content gets shifty, you delete it. But blanket bans really aren't going to get anyone anywhere. And for the record, I doubt Max would have nuked the SH thread. He wasn't the best mod, but he wasn't that awful. A lot of people would probably be banned however.

That's why they weren't given the time of day, or at least I didn't, if the poster was willing to generalize one side what is the point of discussing it with them? I spent 3 whole pages trying to get someone to stop using nerd and gamer in a derogatory terms with someone who couldn't understand why I was saying that generalization was a bad thing.

We complain about Sigma and Thisispain but Glaber is still floating around occasionally.

But that's kinda his thing I think. The arguments we was trying to make were fairly sound, the presentation left a lot to be desired. It doesn't help both sides were treating it like some life or death thing and going out of their way to try and call each other out (well, a certain subset of the users anyway, I'm sure they're pretty obvious). He had this habit of kinda focusing on a user for a bit too long.

However, I think we should also remember what ZQ represented. Most people thought she was a compassionate, good-natured social justice activist who simply cared a little too deeply about the causes she fought for. Instead, the allegations paint her as a serial emotional abuser who is more than comfortable dropping social justice in her personal life if it means she can advance in her career (see: Max Temkin, TFYC, etc). Indie gaming seemed like it had problems, but it overall seemed to be a safe haven from the serious problems in AAA. Instead, it turns out the indie scene has major problems with abusers and corruption in its own relative format. Most people thought the indie scene was free from the AAA poop; turns out the scene has its own skeletons and dirty secrets. I think the fact that indie gaming was exposed for having its own issues with corruption/nepotism was the straw that broke the camel's back. We all told ourselves, "at least we have the indie scene to put our eggs in, as something that can pave the way for a new and more positive industry." Instead, it turns out the indie circlejerk has been pulling the strings for years - and rarely walks the walk for inclusivity, despite talking the talk. That's why I'm royally pissed off, anyway. If this was someone like Nathan Grayson instead of Zoe Quinn, I would be even more upset, to be quite honest, because Nathan would represent a privileged ally abusing his position of power for personal gain. But, either way, it's clear many SJ indie devs in the circlejerk don't really care too deeply about marginalized identities. And just thinking about people using me for personal gain makes me want to punch a brick wall.

The discussion for what the fuck actaully happened will come but we're still in the shitstorm. Its like trying to shovel up your drive way in the middle of a blizzard.
Yeah, coercion into an uncomfortable romantic/sexual situation is emotional abuse. A partner should respect the boundaries of their partner. Gee, you know what I learned these past two months? There are a lot of shitty people in the world. I was never one to be very trustful of others, but all this bullshit seems to reaffirm my belief that you have to be careful around other people. Even "progressives" are often unhealthy people who freely use and abuse others for their own sport.
theres a pretty simple solution to situations like this, burch just acts like a victim and chats shit about how not getting any makes him hate women rather than growing a pair and doing something about it
I don't know how to feel about pre-GG Burch. But I lost all respect for him when he tried to pin CP on GG people, and started telling people that they should die. I would be completely unsurprised if Pitchfork kicked him out of Gearbox.

His sister is the cool one of the group edit: you know after i think about it, HAWP Videos Anthony plays the sane one while Everyone else acts like a giant dipshit. is that some ego in work?
no, i think it was necessary for Ash's character, and Dad's character if anything and he's usually played as in those videos as the incessant twit who gets frustrated and shat on, so i don't think so. their Red Faction Guerilla video required that kind of character (Still my all time favorite)
I really wish they used a different restaurant as the metaphor for the scandal. I just want to eat a delicious and overpriced burger without thinking about gaming journalism.

oh fucking hell as an indie dev this PISSES me the fuck off
oh fucking hell as an indie dev this PISSES me the fuck off
Once the video is online, I'm sure Indiecade and IGF's sponsors will be e-mailed to hell with all this information. Both contests are finished. Anyone involved was basically able to throw in money and get a profit back.
as a person planning to be a indie dev due to all this shit this pisses me off too
The first moment bombshell: The IGFs have been rigged all along , with Fez being the worst offender, getting a +8 score before they had even seen the game.
Missing the stream cause I;m buying a TV, what the hell is going on?

If indie devs/people involved with the IGF end up getting arrested about this I might die of laughter.
If indie devs/people involved with the IGF end up getting arrested about this I might die of laughter.
Something Awful would have an enormous laugh if anyone got arrested on the dev side because of this.
