I might be missing something but why is would the FBI investigate Tim Schafer.
You're mixing 2 things up. Schafer is currently saying there is nothing illegal about the whole IGF thing. When the FBI investigates and confirms, he'll have to eat his words so Reimu is hoping Schafer doesn't dig too deep a hole.
I really can't wait for this to be over and I really can't wait for people like Zoe to fade into obscurity
It won't ever truly be over, unfortunately.
The thing about idiots is that they often aren't smart enough to see that their opinions aren't worth listening to.

Oh for fucks sake.. and of course its only the gamergate supporters doing any harassment.
I wish he wouldn't downplay the corruption.

He raises some good points, and then completely fails to address the mountains of bullshit that has been dug up.

Gotta admit, i lost it at the They Live part in the beginning.

He thinks the issues are about the AAA industry...?
While I agree with the most he said, there is one thing in particular that annoys me a bit. He once again mentions the harassment, which is good, but how the fuck does he only talk about "Gamers" when a not so small part of toxicity also comes from people who should fucking know better.

He calls himself a gamer so he definitely doesn't say that all gamers harass people.
He calls himself a gamer so he definitely doesn't say that all gamers harass people.
Don't make the assumption that people can't be hypocrites.

Not saying that.
Don't make the assumption that people can't be hypocrites.
I watched the video, if you ask me, he's just being dodgey. He's not saying gamers are inherently harassers. He just want people to stop the name-calling. That won't happen, so he should encourage people to not give the people who harass room to breathe and speak. If you don't give them attention and only focus on the persons with legitimate complaints and topics, you will be more enlightened.

Except at the end he points out that dodging and ignoring the hate actually only makes things worse.
So he's contradicted himself, my biggest issue is he plugged in GamerEthics which was specifically created to split the movement apart.
Agreed. One of my IRL fellow pro-GG feminist friends was a big Schafer fan. She's going to be so depressed when I tell her what happens. I really don't want to, it would break her heart.
It's probably safer to assume ignorance over malice from the developers in this situation. Schafer receives a lot of backing and support from these guys, he's likely going to want to ignore the criticism if it means he doesn't have to think about where the money is coming from.
The chances of him being involved directly are certainly there, but from what I know of him, it doesn't seem like something he'd just outright take part in. Though if it does turn out he's a bit of a cock, it won't stop me liking his content, that shit is just great. Gotta separate the artist from the art sometimes.
Just had a third goddamn person posting thiose motherfucking IRC logs as "irrefutable proof" our movement is sexist.
I know I've seen things that prove that shit was cherry picked to hell and back, can I get some help on that?
And even if, why don't they understand, they don't speak for me anymore than radical SJW's speak for you.
so i made thing

He's not wrong about anything specific. However I will say that things omitted can tell you just as much as things said. Comes across as way too safe for the sort of 'edgy' profile he usually tries for.
So has there been any actual confirmation on whether or not the feds will actually investigate this? Because I thought someone would have mentioned it by now if they did.

Had a feeling he would go this way by how he has been acting on twitter.
He seems to think journalists donating to Patreons is ok.

HELLO EVERYNYAN, HOW ARE YOU FINE THANK YOU
From the comments section in Jim's video:
I know some folks were "disappointed" that I took my time here, but pretending the issue of "Gamergate" was exactly like the other topics I've covered before severely underplays the craziness of the past 3+ weeks. It started out as a topic full of stuff that was not my business, and when it escalated, it never stopped changing. Even after I edited this video, more and more stuff was coming out, this time suggestions that the whole thing was caused by a handful of individuals trying to astroturf.
In any case, this video tries its best to isolate the core STATED issue from everything else, because discussing media bias and what that means in practical terms is an issue that's always interested me, even if it doesn't mean I intend to join the those howling corruption. Whether those who genuinely cared about ethics were being used cynically or not, I wanna talk about it. I also want to point out how those who care need to distance themselves from the harassment that HAS been happening, if only for the viability of their message.
For further reading, I said this thing about where I think real corruption lies. I don't think it lies with a handful of bloggers, especially the freelance ones who got attacked despite being isolated from the system.
This video likely won't satisfy a lot of you who wanted blood. I'm not your private attack dog, though. These are my thoughts and if they're not good enough, sorry about that. With this, I officially leave the topic. I stand with Ganondorf.
Mostly everyone on the Escapist Forums are calling him out for being 'uncomfortably one-sided' at the moment.
From the forums:
This was immensely disappointing, tbh. This isn't the Jim Sterling we've come to know and love, otherwise this wouldn't have been as bland as it was. It feels like he is trying his best not to piss off his peers, (like peddling the #GamerEthics tag) ... Sorry, Jim, but to quote Arrow: YOU FAILED THIS CITY!

After giving Jim the "benefit of a doubt," as he seems to have done with #gamergate, I decided that that's the last episode of the jimquisition I'll be watching, AKA the only reason I used to have to come to this site.

Well, good luck to you, Jim.
I just want you to know two things:
- This ride won't stop because you jumped out of it; and
- Good luck by the side of the power hungry villain that inevitably gets it's ass kicked by that small kid who has, coincidentally, no voice.
What the fuck else he can do? He's a fucking game journalist that talks shit about corruption in the game industry, and now that gaming journalism is under attack he suddenly has peers and game developers taking one side, and basic entirety of the internet on the other. Vouch any one side and he's dead, lost connections, or lost public respect
Still, "you can't see for shit in a shitstorm" we could probably get a second opinion from jim eventually
Edit: anyone want to make a list of people who defended this cyberspace clusterfuck try to save their own ass by saying, "I was ignorant of the whole situation and only saw part of it, I had no idea what i was getting into and thus, I should totally not be held accountable for everything I said to my most dearest fans and most respected peers"
Jim sterling is between rock and hard place
he goes pro-gamergate hes fucked, he goes anti-gamergate hes fucked
you know when you made jim sterling uncomfy enough to not talk about things properly you have a powerful movement
Its funny, like 2 weeks ago people were getting shitted on by people saying this would never be anything and will just blow over in a few days.

IMO that's what we should take from all this.

Holy shit, I'm enthralled with anger
Jim is all too happy to call out AAA industry on their shit because there's literally no risk in it. Absolutely nothing at all, there's no bad PR for huge corporations and media. Now that his profession, his connections are being called out, he pussies out and tries to divert attention. Understandable, but non the less, I'll continue to listen to his opinions on bigger industry (because it's of actual value), but on the issue at hand, he chose to not exist. The only way to not lose in his position.
