Jim is all too happy to call out AAA industry on their shit because there's literally no risk in it. Absolutely nothing at all, there's no bad PR for huge corporations and media. Now that his profession, his connections are being called out, he pussies out and tries to divert attention. Understandable, but non the less, I'll continue to listen to his opinions on bigger industry (because it's of actual value), but on the issue at hand, he chose to not exist. The only way to not lose in his position.
I just hope his work with the new Ethics he is helping with for the Escapist are really good.
The big guy over at the escapist wrote this http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/editorials/12223-The-Escapist-Publisher-Issues-Public-Statement-on-Gamergate New guidelines can be found on the last page.
If I was in Jim Sterling's position I probably just gone the Totalbiscuit route and just ignored it all. But then again, he has toted himself as the voice of the people in many respects, I suppose this sort of thing was inevitable, he was in the difficult position of offending people he more than probably work with, and offending his audience. So he went with the watered down stance.
Andrew Dobson has switched to the pro-gamergate side now. I don't know what to feel.
He switched because of the fake phil fish account being a dick

I've only made it about halfway through that Escapist article but its pretty damn good. I'm going to snag a few snippets real quick.
Nowadays more people than ever play games, and that's a wonderful thing! But let us not be fooled: Not everyone who plays games is a gamer. A gamer is a game enthusiast, a person whose primary hobby or avocation is the enjoyment of games. The "enjoyment of games" is a deeper pursuit than merely playing them. It encompasses dedication towards their mastery; understanding of their history; commentary on the design; insight as to their relationships into the web of source material from which they are derived. Every field of human leisure has similarly dedicated individuals. Everyone drives, but not everyone is a gearhead. A gearhead is a car enthusiast - someone whose primary hobby is the enjoyment of automobiles, broadly understood to include fixing them, modifying them, studying them, and driving them. Everyone wears clothes, but not everyone is a fashionista, or fashion enthusiast. Everyone eats, but not everyone is a foodie, or food enthusiast. Everyone watches movies, but not everyone is a cinemaphile, or movie enthusiast. Everyone takes trips, but not everyone is a traveler, or vacation enthusiast. I could go on and on. Because these dedicated individuals have interests within their field that are deeper than those of the average consumer, they sort themselves into communities of like-minded enthusiasts. The existence of these communities in turn creates opportunities for businesses, which support the communities with news, apparel, supplementary media, and accessories that are designed to be of interest to that community. The collection of the enthusiast's media, community, and businesses creates that field's enthusiast culture.

Can we imagine for a moment the editors of Gearhead magazine or Top Gear announcing that gearhead culture is dead because everyone drives now? The notion is laughable.

This type of absurdity does not happen in the automotive industry because car companies understand that creating consumer goods is not a zero sum game. By segmenting their market and selling products that are different for each segment, they can service the mainstream and the enthusiast.

But gamer culture is not dying. It has simply been bruised by the spasms of a shell-shocked industry trying to figure out how best to stay in business during changing times. Fortunately, the big game publishers are beginning to realize that "one game to sell to them all" might be the wrong strategy. Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto recently declared that mainstream game consumers are "passive" and "kind of pathetic" and announced that Nintendo EAD will focus on core gamers, leaving the company's mobile division to expand the gaming population instead. (What, nobody told Shigeru that gamers are dead? Huh.)
Stacksocial cut off advertising from Kotaku
Escapist has done a very, very smart and good thing. Absolutely deserving a round of applause for their ethical approach, and its also a smart business move. The gaming community is going to see this and go "This is exactly it! This is our point!" And they will flock to it. More:
A particularly problematic article, the one which generated his review, was about the alleged harassment of an indie developer by a forum community which denied the allegations but was itself victimized as a result of them. The article failed to cite the harassment as alleged, failed to give the forum community an opportunity present its point of view, and did not verify the claims or secure other sources. Mr. Tito has personally updated the article and spoken to all our editors about the importance of adhering to standards that will prevent such bad incidents from happening again. We, as a team, apologize for this error, both to our readers and to the forum community that suffered as a result. I, personally, apologize for this error, as well.
[editline]8th September 2014[/editline]
Stacksocial cut off advertising from Kotaku
Wait really? its happening
Everyone in the movement has to keep in mind though that the fight isn't over. There is still more that must be done, this is just a small victory along the way. Certainly a morale boost for everyone to know its having an impact.
Its funny, like 2 weeks ago people were getting shitted on by people saying this would never be anything and will just blow over in a few days.
Not gonna lie, the reason I bought this title was because I was someone who was saying nothing is going to come off this and I just liked watching the drama.
i plan to make escapist my main game news site now goodbye joystiq you served me well.
its happening
This has been three weeks of escalating it's happening. I would not be surprised if this causes other companies to stop advertising on Kotaku and other sites.
wow stacksocial is pretty cool i just got a bunch of lifetime CSS3/HTML5/Java/PHP/SQL Courses for 6$ meanwhile on /v/
MAJOR UPDATE Earlier, I posted about a hunch I had to check out possible connections between the names CameraLady dug up and Silverstring. My search for "Kellee Santiago Silverstring" turned up the fact that Andreas Zecher's "Open Letter To The Gaming Community" was signed by not only Silverstring CEO Lucas Johnson, but Kellee Santiago, Nathan Vella and Aaron Isaksen, three of the names CameraLady found in the Polytron documents. Of course, this alone isn't enough to prove anything, so I dug deeper. Searches for Aaron Isaksen and Nathan Vella led to a Kickstarter-funded game called Sportsfriends, which they had backed. http://www.sportsfriendsgame.com/backers/ One of the game's other backers is CEMELUSINE, who works for... ...wait for it... SILVERSTRING MEDIA. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL. The Wikipedia article for Sportsfriends says it won several awards at IndieCade 2011 - where Kellee Santiago was a judge. 2011 is the year Fez won IndieCade's grand prize. Many of the other people involved in this controversy are also backers. Sportsfriends has two kinds of backers. Here's a list of notable backers by heading: Friends of Sportsfriends Anthony Burch Brendan Keogh ceMelusine Christine Love Max Temkin Mike Sacco Nathan Vella Luke Skywalker (ayy lmao) Renaud Bedard (Fez programmer) Vincent Diamante (Flower composer) Sportsfriends Forever Aaron Isaksen Ben Kuchera Brandon Boyer MIT Game Lab (Aaron Isaksen went to MIT) Notch (listed under extra-special thanks) Vlambeer (Rami Ismail's studio) It may be that not all of them did something wrong; those names are here because they're connected to someone who did, have spoken out on #GamerGate or are obviously fake. My question now is what do we do with this? I know what I'm doing: spamming this until everyone sees it. Once the word is out here, we can all decide what to do. I don't want to use up CameraLady, Matt and IA's time unless I've found something serious.
[editline]8th September 2014[/editline]
is all we have
I guess I'll wait for more information in that regard, before I start believing something without any proof both for and against it. Hopefully that editorial can provide that and clear things up a bit.

People who put randoms on twitter under a microscope, and have them prove themselves worthy of the titte of oppressed is frankly disgusting, not to mention that it's a needlessly divisive attitude that should be put to bed. These people should learn to have some fucking shame.
