Does that guy not realise that by banning you literally the only thing he's accomplished is proving you right? Like what the hell dude, literally the worst possible way he could've handled you. :v:

Facepunch is, out of all forums I use, the most ban-happy when it comes to dissenting opinions.
Funny that Facepunch of all places is making fun of this. Facepunch is, out of all forums I use, the most ban-happy when it comes to dissenting opinions.
you must go on some really crappy forums then
Funny that Facepunch of all places is making fun of this. Facepunch is, out of all forums I use, the most ban-happy when it comes to dissenting opinions.
I don't think I've ever seen anybody get banned simply for having a dissenting opinion.
fyi adnz, im not sure if you saw but max was demodded (and actuall banned not too long ago) so dont worry [editline]11th September 2014[/editline] [editline]Even then I think that he didn't actually ban people for different opinions, he was just an awful moderator.[/editline]
Well it happens on Facepunch but on a different level since I don't think I've ever seen someone outright banned for having a dissenting opinion
The list of rules is really huge (and hey it still does not cover all the shit people pull)
I remember when I was young and edgy, one forum I've frequented had literally no rules against porn. Seriously, they didn't even think that someone would post porn. So I went and got some gif with tits for my avatar. Was instantly banned, of course. And then I appealed the ban to an admin: well, there was no rule against it! He unbanned me, guy who banned me got demodded, and then new rule appeared, literally №34. Good times. Never seen that happen. Arguing against some mods in their favorite subjects can bring their unwanted attention to you though.
There have been times when people have been banned for saying overtly racism things, which counts as banning for opinion. Other than that, not really. You have to be Yawmwen level of consistent and retarded,
Are people pushing for more objectivity in news and articles on game websites or in game reviews as well? Because to be honest, I'm really confused as to what an "objective" game review would be. Obviously objectivity and bias prevention are important when presenting news and factual information, but the whole point of a review is to get a sense of what the game feels likes in the hands of a human being, which is something that can only be subjective. In my mind, a subjective description could be "the way this gun shoots bullets is crappy" whereas an objective description could only be "this gun shoots bullets." I don't read reviews to find out what features a game has (I can find that out on a wiki); I read reviews to find out what those features are like and what they do for the overall experience.
Who's the guy with the oglaf avatar? Sorry I can't remember them, but they haven't been banned despite supporting the 'quinn side' (as far as I know)

That's it, we want discussion to occur but we want it to happen in a way that everyone can get involved. http://imgur.com/a/F4m0q/layout/blog Seriously, I was never a fan of NeoGAF, they always seemed to have a big groupthink and hugbox, even bigger than reddit, and they were always really uppity about having a few Devs and Journos posting there, but this shit is mental now.

But I feel like there needs to be a push for more honesty and less bias in the industry rather than more objectivity. After all, critical analysis comes from, and is affected by, a subjective viewpoint no matter who is discussing or what the topic of discussion is.

Just tell me about the game damnit.

Just tell me about the game damnit.
what it is, in my opinion at least, is that these 'journalists' don't really get what people want from Journalism. When you read film and music and book journalism, what the journalist tends to give you is their opinion of the piece in terms of quality. There doesn't tend to be any drawn out discussion about ethics or morality, because it's essentially a buyers guide. Now there is absolutely a place for writing like this, containing discussions of the socio-political implications of video games, as with all the other mediums I mentioned. However, it isn't in a journalistic publication. Stuff like that belongs in academic critical journals, where it can be read and critiqued by educated academics in the same field. It's place isn't to be used as a shit flinging catalyst by sub-huffington post journalistic outlets
With all this objectivity talk I'm half tempted to link something I wrote up about a game recently and ask if it's what you guys want out of a game review, because it was pretty damn through. [editline]11th September 2014[/editline] I just don't wanna seem like I'm plugging. :x
