This shit is getting bigger and bigger.
I was just thinking and I realized that it's very obvious this really isn't an isolated event as some people pretend it is. One common line of argument is that the motives for the argument must be disingenuous because gamers did not care about other events of corruption in gaming journalism. How long have we been making fun of gaming publications, events and journalists for? It's not like it was unknown that gaming journalism was pretty crap, we just couldn't really do anything about it so we did what the internet normally does and not take it seriously and joke about it. I mean, even SA nerds with their holier-than-thou attitude of "lmao who cares" still care enough to make fun of everyone :v: Also if anyone wants an interesting game critic to watch, I recommend [URL="https://www.youtube.com/user/MrBtongue/videos"]MrBtongue[/URL]. He applies literary theory concepts and style of criticism to games (among other things)

Not only does he actually sound really pleasant, but I like what he has to say, and the way he articulates it. And if I'm honest, if it wasn't for #gamergate, I don't think I would have been this interested in journalism ethics, per se. It's just that it's not exactly the most important thing in my life. I do care that more indie games that are deserving of publicity get it, and I'm very unhappy that games like Depression Quest, essentially a glorified book with a soundtrack, is lauded by everybody, while who knows how many beautiful games get buried deep within the cesspit that is the internet. But I've got more important stuff in the 'real world' than what a bunch of people on the internet happens to like that day. I think that #gamergate is causing a sort of Groupthink, and personally, I feel like it's making me more ferocious and impulsive than I would normally be. Just like having a likeable personality at the head of a cause makes it easier to sympathise with them, having a figurehead on the [I]other[/I] side, i.e. Zoe and Anita, seems to bring out the worst of us. Basically, the fight feels too personal for comfort. It's made worse by the fact that twitter creates lots of tiny battlefields where clusters of people can fight it out.
[QUOTE=Pennywise;45964528]...So, uh, how pissed do you think Nintendo would be at Smash Brothers 3ds codes being used as the prize for rape tweet contests?[/QUOTE] Shit if Nintendo gets a hold of this they're going to end that guy. :v:

The solution is to not bottle your frustration but understand it and what it does to you then calm down by either meditation or knowing the logical reasons to clam down, one reason it will put yourself in a better position. I've been through plenty of drama, nothing 1 to 1 like this, but I have some experience. You might be young but the mind is very adaptable as opposed to also being very gullible and manipulatable. One can find something more important then other, but in a society as connected as ours you can't run away that bring you down, confronting the chaos butterfly of destruction is important in maintaining a healthy society that depends on correct information. But at the same time you can't focus all of your life in one area or you'll be shifted to tautological thinking. To your comment of gamergate causing Groupthink, could you provide an example, not to which has been identified within the indie dev and game journalist community. Your going to have people to see a bunch of connections and present them fast, then you have people who sit back and collect and asses information in fewer answers/opinions said. The part of Max is that he wasn't participating in healthy discussion, I missed my opportunity to communicate with Max in this forum to bring out what he was trying to say which he didn't say, (best analogy, "why didn't you come to the meetings" 15mins later "why didn't you say you had a fear of driving on the highway").

Say what you will about this, but as someone with experience in the actual field of journalism, I (and the [I]vast[/I] majority of my peers) do not consider "gaming journalism" as actual journalism in any way, shape, or form whatsoever. Calling it journalism honestly makes me chuckle a little.

Game Journalism honestly seems bottom of the barrel when it comes to "main stream" type news. Shame because there are some who do good but I cant think of any id even call a journalist.

It's good that people don't seem to think of gaming media as real journalism, although I don't think it would hurt to hold them to the same standard.
[QUOTE=Wii60;45971400][IMG]http://i.imgur.com/MThcIIx.jpg[/IMG][/QUOTE] "Biotruths" sounds like something from an Anime.

To be more than just a joke. Its stupid when people go "lol well nobody has taken gaming journalism seriously before" as if that somehow negates the argument that it should be.
[QUOTE=Wii60;45971400][IMG]http://i.imgur.com/MThcIIx.jpg[/IMG][/QUOTE] Okay, one of them is a troll account or we're watching someone being incredibly stupid with the biotruths.
Generally speaking journos pull the "well no one takes it seriously" line because they know damn well that their writing is not trying to be ethical nor reach a high standard. From what I gathered talking to devs, a lot of clickbait writers hold enormous power over devs via their writing. And journos get influence based on the connections and statements they make. I think a real lot of these journos are in it for the connections and ability to influence others. Kinda sad when you think about it.
Queen of Feminism? I thought it was a horrifically schismed movement.

[QUOTE=Teddybeer;45972776]Apparently the Queen of feminism is having some kind of talk to her flock.[/QUOTE] Wait, which person is that supposed to refer to, Anita or Zoe? And what exactly did she say?

So who is Malky?
[QUOTE=Zet;45973747]So who is Malky?[/QUOTE] My thoughts exactly. I'm not sure, seems like they're just some random indie dev.

Editor in Chief of The Escapist: [img]http://puu.sh/bycml/d9971b5390.png[/img] I actually got to see this guy in person today at UNC for a panel about gaming basically. They touched a little on GamerGate but he and those with him definitely made it clear that they support the cause of bringing more transparency and legitimacy to the industry so I thought that'd be nice to share.
I don't know why I can't see images on puush with the img tags on them. Thanks for sharing the info. What else did they touch on?
That video of that trans-woman, I just...I immediately got angry when she mentioned the Boyfriend being an asshole for posting about her cheating. [B]Why does everyone ignore the emotional abuse!? It wasn't just the sex you assholes.[/B] And yeah, she admits that she might see Zoe as a manipulative person, but only because the victim called her out and its a might. This just hits way to close to home for me.
Emotionally manipulative people are good at emotionally manipulating others into taking their side and defending them.
I know all too well about it.
