That first panel is very true. I myself have worked for some of the "internet publicist" sites (nothing to do with games, politics and analytics mostly). You know what a "content manager" is? For a lot of agenda-driven publicist sites, it's a guy who actually orders and buys shit written by some weirdos (like me) somewhere oversees on any given thematics. It's actually ridiculous how this stuff stays unnoticed for decades for the sole reason people like me and 'content managers' don't want to get left without a source of income. Whistle-blowers are literally non-existent. And even if that happens, they're disregarded anyway.
So I myself can attest that even if the poster in question isn't in fact THE guy, he knows his shit on how the thing works from the inside. Funniest thing of all? It ain't even a "conspiracy", it's basic supply and demand relationship. Given site forms and fosters its audience -> orders stuff that fuels the agenda from whoever offers their services, it's far cheaper than paying a wide enough numbers of own writers. Audience is satisfied, the site continues its existence, no one fears for their jobs and "integrity".
And I strongly believe that is the reason they fight back so much. They don't want the whole thing brought down on them, because it's far more than the official staff's income that's on the line. It's the entire concept of modern internet media.

Well, the fact that she's got the vids back up and more coming gives me hope that the Feds are taking that stuff seriously. If they had decided to dismiss the whole thing she probably wouldn't be doing this, so that's some evidence that the feds are on our side. Very shaky and not-that-credible evidence, but evidence nonetheless.

No, doesn't work like that folks. Proper activism needs to work the other way around: the means to creating representation and inclusivity in gaming should always justify the ends. If your means utilize force against others, what do you think the end result will be? Hint: it has to do with a lot of gatekeeping.
This whole entire thing has been a Grade A example of how NOT to go about social change. Actually, I learned through my TW activism that this crap doesn't work at all and often sets your entire movement back. Why? Because you make others feel like they don't have a choice in change. You make them feel like they have to go along with the ride or face getting kicked out. This really upsets them, and often makes people counter-rally against your cause.
That's why I promote social and cultural change via education and understanding, now. I don't trust institutions, I believe they inherently cause these power dynamics to appear, so I always work outside of institutions in order to get people to collectively understand the importance of these initiatives. After all, it's much easier to get TW's in the classroom if we can come to the table and find a middle ground to talk about it, in which we all agree and know how to police their usage and etc. I wish these same devs and journos were also willing to come to the table, instead of trying to jump into the industry, change things around, and then throw a fit when they realize that they've fucked up on getting the masses to actually support what they're doing.[/QUOTE]
This is essentially the exact reason why I stopped being an active supporter of most of the LGBT groups that have existed on various campuses I've been at. While I was never particularly up for going to rallies, I did a lot of planning and logistics, as well as editing. Then invariably every group I helped out was corrupted by these "with us entirely or against us" types, and I stopped giving a shit.
It's extremely frustrating seeing a cause you believe in corrupted towards these hypocritical agendas driven by a handful of bigots/supremacists.

I don't want tthis to just turn out to be one big flop for a week or two
I really hope this will have a permanent effect

It all comes down to the FBI, if they investigate and announce what they found to the general public, we're set
But if they themselves are incompetent or arrogant and basically say "oh like o-m-gee who cares?" nothing will change.
Edit: I like to add that most of my friends don't have a clue whats going on in this scandal, nor do they care. but if government investigators enter that scene then they will have to pay attention to the bigger picture

Infact, the damage is already done.On the whole, Gaming Journalism is an even bigger joke than it was before and the people that actually fund them, read:the hardcore audience, are now ignoring them or questioning everything they do. The skepticism is to such a degree that they can't really get away with anything.

This thread is pretty much signal amping the discoveries /v/ makes, given a handfull of exceptions with reimu and the sorts, doing their own work sending e-mails and getting in contact with the right people etc..
As far as I'm concerned this is a good thing, the less people posting here the more archival and less distracted it becomes, I mean shit, there's a lot of paralel discussion and side tracking going on at /v/'s #gg/#nys threads, and I'd rather this thread serve as an example of straight focus on the topic/discussion at hand.

The most ironic thing about Sarkeesian is that she's actually sexist herself. If you read between the lines in her videos, she thinks women are inherently different from men, as they're easily confused (as seen by her criticism about Mirror's Edge' controls), and could never consider using violence (which is horseshit if you've ever seen a high school fight), preferring to talk things out and use their wily emotions to get what they want. She also seems to be upset by women showing any sort of skin.
Now that I think about it it, her sexism is probably why she's liked so much; she simply reaffirms that women are inherently different and weaker, but she uses leftist language to say it, making her look progressive.
Christ, every time Tim Schafer says anything on Twitter at this point he's just digging himself a bigger fuckin' hole that he might never get out of.
