It was missing the complaints about Smite's Goddesses being too sexualized.
Which is hilarious considering the source material.
If you're banned on reddit then the post box does not show up. Besides, how does a banned person get "approved" posts? If he was banned for awhile, then why did he try posting?
This makes absolutely no sense
You've got it totally wrong. The whole purpose of a sitewide shadowban is to not reveal to the user right off the bat that they've been shadowbanned. They can still post stuff, but it has to be approved by a subreddit mod first before it's visible to everyone else. Subreddit mods have a special page that lists reported posts that got reported by one or more subscribers to a subreddit, posts caught by the site's spam filter (which prevents link shorteners from being automatically visible amongst other things, but is known to be trigger-happy because of its automation), and posts from shadowbanned users, known as the "modqueue". Reported posts have no shading, spam filtered posts have a dark red shading, while shadowbanned users'posts have a lighter red shading so the difference is more apparent.
Shadowbans and subreddit bans are two different things with two different scopes. A subreddit ban is limited to just a single subreddit, or up to several more subreddits if the moderator carrying out the ban is also a mod in other subreddits and they decide to ban in those other subreddits too.
An example of a subreddit ban would be me banning someone for a week from /r/tf2 for modifying artwork without asking the original creator if it'd be okay to do so. In theory, I could also ban that same user from /r/valve and/or /r/GlobalOffensiveTrade if that user did something really, really terrible, but I didn't, nor would I even think about it. Therefore, that user is only prohibited from posting in /r/tf2, and /r/tf2 only, for a duration of one week.
On the other hand, shadowbans are carried out by the reddit admins - paid employees that keep the site going. Shadowbans are reserved for violations of the sitewide rules, and, as such, are sitewide bans (wow!). You can still post just like any other user, but all of your posts get sent to the modqueue of each subreddit you decide to post in, where it is then held until a subreddit moderator decides to approve it or remove it (removing is redundant anyways, as the post is hidden in the first place). A PM to a subreddit's mod team may in some cases be needed to make a post or comment visible to the general public, just like with posts caught by the spam filter. Another cosmetic side effect of a shadowban is that your user page will be visible only to you (and the admins, obviously). To everyone else, it'll appear as a 404 when accessed.
In the case of the Assange question, the admins specified that he wasn't shadowbanned for that specific question. The user was however shadowbanned for voting on other GG-related posts that happened to be raided by 4channers, and then had to ask the /r/IAmA mods to approve his question to Assange so Assange and everyone else can see it. Otherwise, Assange would never see the question if it was left in the modqueue.
Hopefully this brings things back into rational proportions. 3 years of experience on reddit (and 2+ moderating some subreddits), so if you want to ask more about how stuff works or to clarify some other things, fire away. I'll get to them tomorrow.
Being shadowbanned at all for upvoting GG stuff is fucking retarded.
Being shadowbanned at all for upvoting GG stuff is fucking retarded.
Definitely, that can't be disputed. The admins can be trigger-happy at times, which can cause some errors. Usually a quick PM or two to the admins should be enough to get a reason and say "oh, 4channers raided it? yeah I'll try to not step my feet into future messes, sorry".
Regardless of the gun jumping for this particular reddit case, I dont think it matters, it serves as an example of something that is a serious problem.
The circumstances for why the guy was shadowbanned are still fucked up.

I have no words to describe the level of pure liquified fury that's pouring from every one of my orifices as a direct result of this bullshit.
How can nobody see that this is literally morality police bullshit straight out of the 1940's? This is fucking catholic school moms trying to get toilets banned from the silver screen. Only instead of catholic school moms it's atheism+ 20 somethings and instead of toilets it's anything their whim deems to be offensive.

I liked how #gamerethics is literally atheism+. They seriously believe that Atheism+ worked, so they run with that tactic.

The Eldritch thing is really weird...Goes to show how it's the people that make it weird, not the content. I own Eldritch and didn't even once reflect on the cover image being a woman. I didn't stop to think "whoa you're a woman now". but after that weird moral spew-out from the dev, it just seems weird. Obv still nothing's that bothering me, but it reaffirms my suspicions about myself. I care more about the devs attitude towards the theme rather than how inclusion is actually handled.

what he does is extremely calm compared to some other stuff. Would've been better if he didn't talk about it.

It doesn't really make any sense to try to justify it too because there's no specific demographic of races or genders that explore tombs. Unless the game Eldritch took direct Inspiration from Cthulhu Mythos, then it kind of makes sense because all the main characters for every story are white males.

Well, Lovecraft was an outspoken nazi sympathiser, so that ground is a bit dangerous. But what I'm saying is that no gaming board made a big fuss that "um why is there a female explorer in the cover image". The fuss seems to come when the devs for some insane reason must talk about it and give their characters background before people play the game.
Consider The Walking Dead, which is /v/'s favourite game, almost. In the first one you play as a black guy, in the second as a girl, who isn't ethnically white. Devs never really made statements like "WE NEED THE DIVERSITY, THIS IS IMPORTANT" since that comes off as pandering. They just made and presented the characters. Ultimately, no one cared about the ethnicity or gender.
[editline]16th September 2014[/editline]
Compare that to say, Bioware.

Well hey, it's just the culture. In video games, most tomb raiders are men.

Not really dug into it much, but apparantly (though this could be out of date) she's living in London somewhere, apprantly studied at the AADA in New York. Although I now realise it has london on her twitter anyway...

The Eldritch thing was condescending to me as a man and a gamer, and my wife found it condescending to her as a woman. She feels that if this particular person and other devs think female characters can't stand on their own two feet and have to be propped up, that says a lot more about themselves and the character they created than the people absorbing the material.

I've noticed a trend that "progressive" game developers and journalists actually turn out to be patronizing assholes in disguise.
I have this image set which describes it quite well.

I can't believe this. Do they realize these articles are only making things worse for themselves?
Not to mention, you can't just put a flag on a LIVING movement and say, "Okay! It's ending and was only ever really about x!"
The fact that WikiLeaks confirmed GG's validity means GG just got a major boost in credibility. It's hard to make an argument against GG when the leading force on transparency and credibility calls it a microcosm of international politics. Cracked has jackshit on Julian Assange.
pageviews.
I don't think they care at all. For them it's not about an argument or swaying the public, it's about showing how they're right and everyone else is wrong.
If they think it's about baselessly harassing women then they'll cherrypick evidence to show that. If they think it's some big conspiracy they'll find the craziest posts they can. Confirmation bias is king because feeling good about being right is more important than a rational discussion.
It's cracked. No one reads it as a reliable source.
I don't give a shit about what a cuckold that can't stop lying with the fashion sense of a middle schooler says about Gamergate anymore.

It goes a long way to explaining why they posted a horrendously written cherry picked article attacking gamergate, though.
I'm more annoyed with the jilted portion again, again they brush aside the ex to avoid the uncomfortable question of, 'Did you abuse him?'
Cracked used to be about silly, yet mildly informative lists. What happened?
They ran out. Like, with all comedians and funny people. They eventually hit this brick wall where they start re-using material. If you're a good comedian you can usually run with this for a whole career and expand it out.
Cracked writers didn't do that and now they've hit a point where they can only be sarcastically assholish.
