Strange threads (like talking about how good Gone Home is, and that one you mentioned) are being left up while gamergate stuff is being censored. Can only assume the mods are in on this along with other people who have sort of taken over the board for now. And apparently moot went on some vacation without Internet and people will only be able to communicate with him Friday.
I trust an experienced detective or two much, much more than an internet "investigation" mob.
I trust neither. An experienced detective is more likely to drag in past experiences and assumptions that proved to be right instead of looking at the facts. A mob will jump to any conclusion but you'll always have those near the center actually digging up the information. Lets not sit here and think that the police are suddenly the bastions of truth and justice as has been proven, at least in the US, to not be the case.
jesus christ, there's a thread up on /v/ right now about that breaking news story of the MLG gamer who was killed in a robbery trying to sell his PS4 over craigslist. the title of the thread in the OP is "Niggers kill white guy for his Ps4", the thread has hundreds of posts with a huge chunk of them being "nigger" this, "nigger" that, a bunch of racist MSpaint comics about black people... it's been up for over a half hour, it's still going strong and consistently getting bumped to the first page and the mods have yet to bat a fucking eyelash at it
thats the occasional /pol/ leak on /v/ just note on 4chan no one takes racial/homophobic/etc. terms seriously. thats why it hasn't been taken down yet.
Ya'll really need to learn how to thumb images, by the way.
Do they actually think people are going to fall for this? I kinda sorta like Gone Home but I'd gladly jump back into /v/ and push forward GG efforts 10 fold. Just because I'm pissed someone is telling me how/what to think about Gone Home. These people are really fucking terrible at damage control. Part of the reason GG isn't dying is because these devs and PR folks keep poking the angry bear over and over. "You guys dead yet? How about now? How about now?" There are many ways to do damage control, but one of the best ways is to not even touch the problem. Pretend it doesn't exist, and people will follow suit. By acknowledging it, you make it legitimate. That's why many power structures DON'T acknowledge crisis in their home countries. Pretend it isn't even worth talking about, and people won't talk about it. Period.

Half the reason GG isn't dying is because these devs and PR folks keep poking the angry bear over and over. "You guys dead yet? How about now? How about now?"
I think they're trying to poke us enough that we spout something really really really stupid. Like, mass wave of 'Gamers are Dead' level stupid.
I think they're trying to poke us enough that we spout something really really really stupid. Like, mass wave of 'Gamers are Dead' level stupid.
Every time they do it, though, someone higher up the food chain gets involved. For ex, wikileaks this week. Who is next?

You trust people, with no experience and are prone to jumping to conclusions that can have effects on multiple people's lives, over professional detectives with years of experience in investigation and criminal law, who only make a arrests when they have enough evidence to prove a conviction? You're advocating vigilante justice and we all know how well that works. I think you should take a step back and stop thinking emotionally.
/v/ isn't taking this lightly

I dont think threads should be deleted regardless of the content as long as it isnt digiorno.
Also, you guys keep going on and on about all this shit about mob being untrustworthy but I have to ask, who do you expect to investigate this shit? Like, honestly. Its definitely not going to be gaming press, and none of the youtube personalities gave much of a damn to look it up. Who would find out half the shit we found out?
4chan may be a vigilante mob but they have standards of waiting for verification and knows when to back off unlike reddit, who got someone killed over bad evidence.

He was presumably dead before the event.
I just went on Polygon for the first time in a couple months. There are a lot less comments on every article and its all about the same people now.
Seeing the wind taken out of 4chan's sails hurts me a lot man. That's supposed to be the last bastion, and even it's been censored. Why don't more /v/irgins come here, we're still safe?

I know FP isnt my "home base" by any means and more often than not I disagree with posters here but wont say anything because you guys keep really good track of whats happening regarding GG and I just want to watch.
Seeing the wind taken out of 4chan's sails hurts me a lot man. That's supposed to be the last bastion, and even it's been censored. Why don't more /v/irgins come here, we're still safe?
They don't know that we exist, think that we aren't big enough, or they still think that there are still bans being handed out here for the smallest things. It is pretty fucking ironic how Facepunch is becoming one of the least ban-happy sites lately.
shit man and /tv/ doesn't even allow bane anymore 4chan is not the home I once knew
I did complain about that earlier, but lets elaborate. That big fucking network graph someone is working on? That's one of the problems with this movement. How many people on that graph do you actually think are 100% complicit with the problems in the industry? It's probably only a small subset of the people on the graph that are actual problem causers, others are probably just people who support their friends and are unaware, or are aware but don't give a shit anyway because it doesn't impact them. Weird grasping at straws like that just makes this whole thing look fucking dumb really. And that's all external eyes are seeing, a bunch of guys grasping at straws to find connections that aren't there. If you want to actually do something useful for the movement, that is not what you need to be doing. As Reimu said, focus on the abuses of power that we know of and can confirm, stop trying to drag others into the web unless they give themselves away or you have proper evidence of their involvement.
You say these two cases as if they're excusable. Taking part in corruption (a self-proclaimed journalist who actually thinks they're doing good by bending the rules a bit to support their friends, or helping to give their friend a better chance than any random stranger in sales or in competitions,) without knowing that this flies in the face of journalistic integrity doesn't mean that it's okay. Ignorantia juris non excusat, and in this case the law is that of journalistic ethics and integrity as set forth by institutions such as the SPJ. The second case is arguably worse, as knowing that something is wrong in the industry you work with and doing nothing about it is pretty deplorable. [editline]17th September 2014[/editline]
That would have come up sooner or later I'm sure. The actual reasoning of "hey...these two indies guys both took part in this, it must be involved!" is pretty janky. You got lucky that there was actually a connection there.
The reasoning of "Hey, it's coming out that a lot of people are being buddy-buddy with each other in the industry, let's dig more and see what else turns up," leading to "Wow! We found more people who were buddy-buddy with each other, and it turns out that IGF is involved!" doesn't seem terribly janky to me. Maybe the conspiracy theory chart is kinda weird, but it's not luck; this incident got people looking, and when people look they find things. Especially when we're finding out how bad some people are behaving, it's not exactly serendipity.
Jesus, /v/ hasnt been this bad in ages. It's like Shill is the word of the day or something you can't go 10 posts without seeing someone using it. The post quality is diferent as well, it's as if it hasn't gone down, as it's strangely familiar and alien at the same time, like the whole board is populated by people who've never been there before and are now trying to blend in, almost uncanny. I also got called a shill for posting in a Risk of Rain thread for some reason.
i was more pointing out the irony of how the opposition to gamergate usually paints it as "hate campaign against women" and gamergate threads are being deleted and the posters banned as fast as people are trying to start them, while an incredibly racist thread full of hate against black people that literally said "niggers" in the title was left to run rampant on the front page. by the way, as of this post the racist thread in question reached the post limit and was archived. not a single post in it was deleted, no intervention at all, even after i reported the thread and some posts in it. aside from the news article in the OP the thread had almost nothing to do with videogames and was mostly just full of racism and gun control debate. global rule 3 of 4chan states: "You will not post any of the following outside of /b/: Trolls, flames, racism, off-topic replies, uncalled for catchphrases[...]" so regardless of how ubiquitous the term "nigger" is on 4chan, such a thread shouldn't have been allowed on /v/ since it's archived, you can view it here for the next day or so if you're curious https://boards.4chan.org/v/thread/264031017/
I think the mods there might have been bribed by the anti-#gg side to discredit the entire movement. The censoring of everything slightly #gamergate related (Yes, even TYFC threads are being deleted near instantly) while actual rule-breaking threads (racism, r34 outside of /b) get to stay the entire way, certainly plays in the hand of sites who are trying to spin #gamergate as a whole hate campaign against ZQ and Anita. What doesn't help either is how those threads get deleted from every board, and not just /v/. That this mass censoring happens after wikileaks caught wind of the whole scandal is a bit too convenient in my opinion. At least Milo is saying that he might have discovered something big about the corruption in video game journalism. And the discussion and hashtag on Twitter ain't dying either.
every board has it's buzzword /tv/ besides "for you" has the trend of calling fucking everything fedora. You like Taxi Driver? You're a fedora wearer. You like Coen Brothers movies? Fedora wearer! you like any superhero movie? You're obviously fedora AND reddit.

/pol/ ever since it's creation has surmounted into the most volatile place on 4chan, and that's an accomplishment. I'm honestly worried what the posters on there will do if they get cracked down on
Maybe /pol/ is just shitting out everywhere since they're probably getting cracked down on?
/pol/ hasn't been set loose, as far as I know, this is most certainly a raid, by whom I don't know. This most certainly isn't the /v/ I know, something about the language, posting patterns, and response to bait posts is off. I hope this is boiling and not cooling because there is nothing more disheartening than to know that movements on the internet are being silenced like this.
