I'm honestly worried what the posters on there will do if they get cracked down on
He eventually decided that the subforum was a type of voluntary containment center, and closing it down would be "like putting a person with a horribly contagious disease through an airplane engine" for the rest of the site.
Considering the difference of scale between 4chan and a GameFAQs subforum, I suppose a more accurate example could be detonating an Internet dirty bomb.

Someone got rangebanned from 4chan due to gamergate. This never happens.

ok apparently the entirety of German IPs are being range banned
I hope this is boiling and not cooling because there is nothing more disheartening than to know that movements on the internet are being silenced like this.
I might be late on this, but what happened to the IRC /v/ was running?
it's still up, im in it right now
they are discussing third wave feminism right now for some reason

So they now banned an entire country off 4chan?
What the absolute fuck are those mods doing? I can't see this doing anything else than to backfire horribly, and it is Germany of all countries, who managed to legally overturn Valve's return policy not too long ago. (Not to mention, /pol/ is gonna have a fucking field day over this, how incorrect that might sound...)
There are conflicting reports about Germany. It may apply to only certain states, an anon from Hesse posted in a related thread on /v/ and Germans are on /int/ now.
Everyone who is worried about Moot "succumbing to the dark side" is a fucking idiot. Does no one remember /q/?
All it is a lone mod being an absolute asshat while Moot is away.

There is probably more to this than "all German IPs being banned"
Also the guy in question that got banned was spamming threads.

That can't be real. That's something you'd pull out as a last resort for, like, unstoppable child porn flooding. Doing it for any less would get a backlash so major it would be a story we'd tell as codgety old people to amuse our tech-savvy grandkids.
"You think this is bad, eh? As bad as BANNING GERMANY?"
UPDATE 2: 12:26 PM 9/12/2014
From Steven Schaeffer:
“Update as promised from IFred. After speaking with Ms. Quinn, she did indeed donate as she attests as an individual. While this does not clarify all points or the current situation with National Suicide Prevention Lifeline it is certainly welcome and happy news for all who donated during the time in which Depression Quest developer Zoe Quinn attests to have supported the charity.”
UPDATE 2:43 PM 9/15/14
In response to my request for information, I received this email today:
Hi Allison,
Thank you for your question concerning the Lifeline. This email will confirm that since late August, the Lifeline has received several donations from Zoe T. Quinn.
Best,
-Ming
I too am not convinced that moot has been compromised or whatever. Sitting down and listening to someone whom you disagree with does not mean you've joined the dark side or whatever.

I don't know much about how 4chan works. Is it at all possible for a mod to be hacked like what happened to TFYC's Indiegogo page? If not then I would also suppose it is a lone mod.

ya i know but i dont know how the site itself knows "oh this user is a mod" or not since theres no account creating or anything
Just sent a message to GameJournosPros asking them if they have posted about me in relation to my activism and public forum posts, and asking them to remove any links to myself if they have.
Will wait on a response from the group owner.
There's a screencap floating around from a supposed mod alleging that moot culled the 4chan moderation staff and basically excused himself from taking care of the site in July following the whole tumblr fiasco and the #shutdown4chan thing.
Of course, it's a shaky testimonial at best (It claims that dissenting mods met on the 4chan minecraft server rather than an IRC or over skype.) but a number of anons are seizing on it,

I would highly doubt that they namedropped you at all, to be honest. If I was some journalist complicit in all this, you would be just be another face in the crowd, just another nobody.

There is something dearly poetic about a real journalist exposing gaming ''journalists'' as complete hacks.
It's funny how sudden /v/ can change in a single refresh.

There is one thing to take into account however. Her platform to spread her ideas was through the AEI, a noted conservative think-tank. I'd be totally in agreement to listen to her views if they were posted by her, in a self-run private manner. But they aren't, it's on the AEI channel, she's acting as a mouthpiece for the AEI, for the video to go up, the AEI has to think "yes, yes this is good for our agenda".
Ignoring people straight-up because of their political alignment is kinda silly unless they've proven to be far too biased. Ignoring political groups that have a history of not actually caring about these situations and have clear agendas by their past behaviour however, seems a lot more justifiable.
This is what I mean when I say be critical of people supposedly supporting GamerGate, a lot of political figures on the right have hopped the fuck on to this train for some reason, and it's not an innocent "yeahhhhhh!!! no corruption boyeeee!!" thing.

Someone in the Phil Fish thread contacted the lifeline and got confirmation that Zoe donated.
Three days late to the party, but here goes - the answer I got reflects something very different:
[t]http://i.imgur.com/x5q7Z79.jpg[/t]
Now...
#1 In the question I mentioned both Zoe and the game by full name, as well as linking to the official game website, to avoid possible identity confusion (e.g. referring to the donor as "Depression Quest" only, as I suspect the other guy may have).
#2 Given one of the donation links is just straight-up just her PayPal account (Indie remember, no parent company) it stands to reason that the donations would been made under her name too. After all, why would the donations be under the name of the product, and not the owner of that product?
#3 If the claim that some proceeds from the game were being donated to the charity was fraudulent, their response upon viewing the link I included probably have included something more than "Nope it's legit" - either that, or they're in on it too! :tinfoil:
