My god. You don't base game speed on framerate jesus fuck that's like the first rule of game development.
Good thing this game has more things to base it on :v:
The main problem with that game is the Pursuit system.
It feels unnecessary because you lose nothing but teleported to the nearest police station, and if you escape, you got almost nothing.
Why do I even bother escaping if I can just surrender?
there was nothing it could penalize you for. there was no money, you just got through the game by doing races and thats it.

wouldnt count as a speedrun because you would be using cheats.
Everyone needs to stop assuming every NFS is the same game every year. I treat each NFS game as different games because they are different games. Are you telling me this is the same game as this?
Most Wanted 2012 was a huge disappointment for me. Hot Pursuit 2010 was the best NFS in a long time and felt like what a modern NFS game is supposed to be. Rivals is like a hybrid of HP2010 and MW2012, and does it fantastic.
But it's not bad.
Actually, it would count as a tool assisted run. The more you know!
It's pretty interesting, though he's not just going to run into problems with EA, but vehicle manufacturers as well. Some of them are....well, draconian about their Brand. Big reason why this game (NFS Rivals) is a bit of a landmark is that it marks the return of Ferrari since HP2 I think. They were against having their marque featured in a game that involved illegal racing, so they just revoked their license until this thing came along.
I was pumped when I saw a Ferrari in NFS after so long, but then the game looks terrible so now I'm sad again.:(
Now that you mention it... I haven't noticed the absence of Ferraris in the latest NFS games, hehe.
[editline]21st November 2013[/editline]
IMHO, they should just make a reboot of the entire series... hell, just reboot the first NFS I or II (pretty much like that project you showed before)! With today's graphics, I'd be ALL OVER IT.
[editline]21st November 2013[/editline]
Just start over... we want to drive supercars in exotic sceneries, and perhaps a spin-off of that series where you tune and hoon the fuck out of them in illegal street races.

Nostalgia time!

My personal favorite. This one used to get me SO pumped.
The reason he brings that up in his videos is because he has a system that is designed to run anything at highest detail, so when he finds games that can't, it's a problem with the support of the game.
If it doesn't run well on dual Titans, then people with a single 560 are going to have problems for instance. And many many people buy 120hz/144hz screens for the ability to play games at those high refresh rates for an insanely smooth experience, so he's able to tell them, "hey, the game is locked to 30fps, and doesn't even go past 90 with hacks. So no 120hz for you"
He does these videos to show off what is working or not working with the game so people know to buy or not buy something.
except better cards dont really mean it should work better, prime example is that my 670 card can run bf4 flawless with 60fps, but a person with 700TI can run it at half that. it really depends on the optimization and the drivers of said cards.
Actually, it would count as a tool assisted run. The more you know!
It would be more like a noclip run than a TAS.
Honorable mention
I dunno... At the time they were mind blowing because "cutting edge gfx" and all, but now they look a bit silly :v: I think what made the intros prior to 4 (High Stakes was the first to use 3D renderings for its intro cinematic) special was that they were live action and are, in a way, timeless because they were real footage of real cars.
CGI only got good for the cinematic intro at the time of NFS 6 Hot Pursuit 2, which to me atleast, was the last good game that stayed true to the lineage.

Mind you, they had a lot of ideas for the NFS franchise that were way ahead of its time - imagine the possibilities if they brought back the original Motor City Online with todays improved multiplayer tech and a new game engine into an open world environment (similar to golden age Detroit) with the best cars of the fifties through the seventies. I'd get that in a heartbeat and it would actually do a lot better than NFS world (aka NFS Most Wanted online) ever would.

Which one of the 700-series GPUs?
A GeForce GT 740 for example is (a lot) worse than a GTX 670.

plenty of the 700s are having problems with running it, the other day a guy with one titan was complaining about fps drops. infact the only reason my studders at this rate is because its pretty much required to be on an ssd or else the game will freeze and pop in objects.
Oh look, yet another racing game with incredibly arcadey physics

It's an arcade racer. What do you expect?
Isn't this just him playing around with the FPS?
I made the mistake of not actually watching the video. I just assumed it was some other lets player because I wasn't able to determine whether it was TB from just the thumbnail. So by just seeing the title I went into a small fit of rage.

Why would you post without watching the video, in the videos section

Yes, but what 700 series?
Also, regarding the framerate being tied into the clock speed - did you know this wasn't a new issue and that NFS World had a similar issue? Basically if you cranked all your settings to low (like I did because my PC was really a very cunning potato a few years ago), you could actually move faster than the guy with the cranked up graphics, which I found hilarious. I was a beta tester when that was discovered, and that shit stayed that way right uptil the actual opening and for a little while afterwards too. :v:
My friend and I discovered this a long time ago when we played NFS World and used Cheat Engine to drive ridiculously fast. If something as lame as Cheat Engine can break your online game without detection there's a problem.
except better cards dont really mean it should work better, prime example is that my 670 card can run bf4 flawless with 60fps, but a person with 700TI can run it at half that. it really depends on the optimization and the drivers of said cards.
Do you understand how nVidia name their cards because this "person" may have a shit tier card
xy0/xy5: x=Series y=capability (anything with the 5 and/or suffixed M will be a mobility chip aka laptops)
in a particular series:
x05 - x35: shit tier basic card for playing films only
x40-x55: entry level card for lighter gaming/some graphics work
x60-x75: mid range gaming, most people buy in this range
x80+/titan: high end "price of a whole low-mid gaming pc" cards
between ranges isn't comparable e.g. a 260 will still trounce a 620 because one is designed for pumping pixels while the other is crippled to just basic overlay shaders for playing movies
the jump between x60 and x70 is probably the most profound difference, for certain series the 70 variant would fit better in high end
this is all compounded with one simple tidbit - the mid range 7 series (760, 770) are the mid-high end 6 series rebranded (660Ti, 670, 680) with a little tweaking. They're both the GK104 reference.
I now expect this post to be nitpicked to all hell because some generalizations were made
I thought TB didn't play EA games?

Nintendo? When and why did that happen?
Weren't the last AAA games to be coded where game speed was dependent on framerate like, when they were still making them on DOS?
sega and nintendo

Nintendo never released videogames for PCs, that was educational stuff and Interplay's time
Nintendo? When and why did that happen?
Automated copyright claims on lots of small channels a year or so back.
I've been off the series for a few years, I think Hot Pursuit was the last one I played, what exactly is the difference to Most Wnated etc? They look just the same to me.

One of the coolest part of the original NFS lineup was their inclusion of concept vehicles, like the one in that video.
I loved it when they showed thr Cala and the Schigera.
