I tend to believe in the general Idea of the book of the dead. If you are unprepared, ignorant or disconnected from the source you will just be reabsorbed into the universal conciousness. But if you are prepared mentally you can retain your memories. I entertain the thought of reincarnation but it really makes no difference to me for the only realy point in time is now and the only real thing I know for sure is my own existance.
If I was atheist, I would believe that all everyone is is a part of the universe and instead of souls everything we are and have done has just happened by chance and is a side effect of chemical reactions n stuff. So therefore when you die, you're not really dying because there wasn't anything there to begin with with which "dying" would end, just a complicated mass of atoms, which, when you "die" continue to rearrange themselves. And when you die, and other people remember you, they can't really remember "you" because if a soul is basically just the effect of many many chain reactions spurring other chain reactions, they're just remembering a mass of atoms which have by happenstance and chance have amassed into a certain order.

But I like to believe in souls and a God, so I'm inclined to believe that when you die you either get reincarnated or remain a soul, or perhaps your soul gets absorbed into life, along with the body.
