• Is the general Dislike of Anime unwarranted?

I'm sure there's some good anime out there, but from what I've seen, I don't like the lazy animation, the themes, and of course, the fans. Dear lord, the fanbase for anime can be almost as bad as the fanbase for Super Smash Bros. (I'm sure an anime fan would consider there to be a multitude of different fanbases within anime but I'll sum them up as a whole here because most of that shit is the same to me)
It's definitely not unwarranted, because most anime is bullshit, but hating all of it is definitely stupid, since there is some pretty amazing anime out there
The majority of movies or TV shows aren't worth watching, but you don't see people going around saying all Movies or TV shows are terrible and you therefore shouldn't watch any. You shouldn't really generalize Anime, just like you can't really generalize Movies or TV shows. There are some things that are present in quite a few of them though. Unwarranted means it's not justified. I have seen no justified reasons to dislike all Anime - other than someone just what it actually is (Again though, you don't see many people saying they dislike all movies). The Fanbase isn't really a good reason, as it doesn't have any sort of effect when you watch something and it varies depending on what Anime it is. Artstyle or production value isn't either, as it varies all the time. There are many different plots aimed aimed at different people etc.
You've most likely seen one of those bad shows. I'll use Index II as an example, which contains gore and unnecessary nudity with spaghetti constantly falling out of the main character's pockets every time he sees a girl. This is pretty much evidence on some anime focusing on nudity and gore. However, not all of it is focused on gore and nudity. I'll name one as evidence. Usagi Drop, a fairly innocent anime which focuses on the difficulties of parenting. No gore, no nudity. I really wonder how people can say that all anime is the same when there are many different genres, writers and animation studios.
I agree. Not all anime is the same, but most of it is this way. Like I said, there is good anime out there, it's just hard to find. [editline]28th February 2012[/editline]
My evidence is that I've seen nearly 200 shows so I actually know what I'm fucking talking about. How many have you seen?
I'm convinced that if you have seen so many anime shows, you would do anything to say that the majority of anime doesn't make a habit of showing big tits and a good amount of gore.
I'm convinced that if you have seen so many anime shows, you would do anything to say that the majority of anime doesn't make a habit of showing big tits and a good amount of gore.
I'm convinced that you can only see from one side of this because you won't give someone a little credit even though they have so much experience in the matter.
I'm convinced that you can only see from one side of this because you won't give someone a little credit even though they have so much experience in the matter.
I won't give him credit because his claims seem very out of proportion. "I've seen over 200 shows" Okay. If he's seen over "200" shows, then he should be able to admit that most anime is full of gore and/or tits. Other people say this as well, not just me.
Why does he need evidence. It's natural for someone to feel absorbed in any art.
Because this is Mass Debate, it's part of the rules.
But it's the people that haven't seen even ten shows who are saying this, I doubt they would know the majority in this case.
The only way where we can see him as someone who is a qualified "expert" in this situation would be if he saw 200 different unique shows, and not 200 episodes.
The only way where we can see him as someone who is a qualified "expert" in this situation would be if he saw 200 different unique shows, and not 200 episodes.
He's implying that he's seen 200 shows, not episodes.
I've been watching anime for as long as I can remember, my aunt and uncle liked it and they were around a lot. Even after all this time I've only seen a few anime that was really gory at all.
The only way where we can see him as someone who is a qualified "expert" in this situation would be if he saw 200 different unique shows, and not 200 episodes.
You're clearly blind because I clearly said "shows" not "episodes". If you want that number though it's around 3300 episodes that I've seen.

Also, the one reason many people have a stigma against this kind of stuff, is because of this. i just hate most of the fans because alot of them are akin to furries also most of the animes are soooo cheesy it hurts and alot of them always have some kind of sexual fantasy shit in it

I like some anime. Some I don't. I've watched a few episodes of GITS, a few episodes of Bleach, a few Studio Ghibli films... I'm not a fan of some of the more "hardcore" anime, I guess, but that's just me. Dated a girl who loved the stuff. A complete Japophile. I didn't understand it, but I guess you learn not to question things like that. I think she's the spokesperson for some anime conference now.
You'll need to clarify what "hardcore" anime is.
Anything that isn't dubbed or subtitled in Americanese.
I'm convinced that if you have seen so many anime shows, you would do anything to say that the majority of anime doesn't make a habit of showing big tits and a good amount of gore.
I think your mindset is trapped in the late 80's to early 90's (period may be a bit off) when all there was a huge boom in ultra violent anime with tits and gore. Nowadays, the trend had ditched most of the ultra violence and kept the fanservice in mostly sexist portrayals of subservient women (adapted from dating sims). Why? Because it sells. But just like things like Transformers is made to sell using it as a good representation of the state of a medium is a silly exercise in pessimism. I wouldn't say the majority of anime is overencumbered by T&A, especially if you include things like children's shows which Japan also considers anime (over there they call Tom and Jerry an anime); which goes back to how broad the genre is. Maybe I've just become desensitised but whenever there is an oddly proportioned female in a show it just doesn't bother me that much; I can just filter it out unless the show tries to rub it in my face. I avoid shows that are likely to offend me.
General dislike? Can't walk two steps around a school or other public place without seeing a weeaboo or a few
Anything that isn't dubbed or subtitled in Americanese.
You'd be surprised at what gets released for the English speaking audience (not including what fans subtitle)
General dislike? Can't walk two steps around a school or other public place without seeing a weeaboo or a few
I've yet to see a weaboo where I live
I think Anime is like any other show. I watch shows that interest me. It's basically the same as watching cartoons except these ones are made in Japan
General dislike? Can't walk two steps around a school or other public place without seeing a weeaboo or a few
Most of this seems to refer specifically to the internet community, because hatedoms don't really show in real life due to the fact that people are actually mindful of manners when they're talking to others in person.
Considering the Father of Anime, Osaku Tezuka, was inspired by Walt Disney's characters, Anime can be pretty much any form of animation. Do you hate cartoons? Of course not. Everyone likes some cartoons. So everyone then, by default, likes some sort of anime. But that's getting technical, isn't it?
I dislike choppy animation styles. I can't fucking stand them. There's that, and the bad lipsync, acting, and character personality.
I've only liked(seen) a few anime shows (Cowboy Bebop, Paranoia Agent, FLCL) and a few movies (Memories, Satoshi Kon movies, classics by Miyazaki, Akira, Tekkonkinkreet). While they are all anime, I'd hardly consider them to be typical. Would that sentiment be correct? When I think of typical anime, three pictures come to mind: the first is adventure/action pandering to kids, the second is the kind of show people get their waifus from(not even sure what these are like), and the last is childish drama with randomness(high schools girls and shit). Correct me if I'm wrong in this stereotype.

Sounds to me that all anime is a cartoon, but not all cartoons are anime. This means that everyone who likes anime, by default, likes cartoons, and not everyone who likes cartoons likes anime.
