Anime can be good. For example, Full Metal Alchemist seemed to be a pretty good anime. From what I could gather, it had a great plot and it wasn't full of blood and tits.
Not an unfair argument really. Still, there are a great deal of animes that avoid the typical dumb kawaii shit (Helsing, Full Metal Alchemist), or some that are so quality that the rare few times they do it are not worth dropping the whole thing for (Gurren Lagann).
That said, Helsing has quite a lot of blood at times (though it is about vampires...) and one of Gurren Lagann's characters is famous for all the wrong reasons, but if you let these small problems get in the way, you're a damned fool.
I don't see why it should deserve any more "general Dislike" (not sure why you capitalized dislike and not general :grammarnazi:) than any other genre.

Fanservice does ruin the way the show is portrayed, depending if it's intended to be serious or not. I find the panty shots, skimpy clothing, and the constant display of huge breasts akin to dancing men in pink thongs. I'm not really saying that it's bad, it just ruins the serious feel to it.
I personally don't like anime, as mentioned by someone before, because of the people who are associated with it, at least where I live.
I've met plenty of people who love anime and they're the kind if people I despise, people who go ":3 ^_^" after every sentence and think it's perfectly acceptable for something blatant fan-service.
To be honest, i don't watch very many animated shows be it east or west like i used to. Anime porn is hilarious as fuck though i love that shit.

Not liking something because of the people associated to it is pretty dumb, it's not like you will turn into one if you did watch it.
[editline]5th February 2012[/editline]
You have probably only seen people who are a bit too pushy with the fact that they watch it, there are plenty of people who watch it but don't go around shoving it in peoples faces and making stupid faces with text.
Some of it is pretty bad, but that is no reason to hate it all. If you see a bad movie you don't suddenly hate all movies.
yo i hear this a lot and i'm just gonna lay the smackdown
i will acknowledge that there are animes~ that are legitimately good like everything from studio ghibli, akira, etc but those shows are by and by large exceptions to the general rule that anime is total shit. you don't look at a category of things and judge it by the few exceptionally high-quality members inside of it, you judge it as a whole. and as a whole, anime is an incredibly creepy, sexually-charged and pedophilic shithouse of cheap animation and childish writing
I like some serious anime movies like Akira and stuff, the rest comes off as too weird and I feel really awkward when watching it. And the way weeabos act in general at my school makes me want to never watch anime ever and drive a screwdriver into my eye.
The only show I really watched and liked was Hokuto no Ken, because it's manly as fuck, unintentionally hilarious, and it has dope ass voice acting and a sick ost. ATATATATATATATA WAH-TAHHHH. Oh yeah and I have also seen most of the Cowboy Beebop episodes on adult swim, I really like that one too.
Well, one can't judge something as a whole. That would be just plain stupid.
It depends on your taste and opinion. If you like only certain types of Anime, then watch only certain types of Anime. Simple as that.
But saying everything else is shit is really damn retarded.

No, it's not. That's not how it works. Using that logic you are also saying as a general rule all Movies, TV shows and Cartoons are terrible and it's therefore not worth watching any at all.
you are also saying as a general rule all Movies, TV shows and Cartoons are terrible and it's therefore not worth watching any at all.
He never said that
He never said that
Following this logic, he would say that.
The dislike about anime is purely an opinion, but the 'flak' anime receives is not towards anime but more towards the pursuers and spreaders of it (i.e this thread) - it's great that you turned to like anime and have fun with it, but nobody wants you to shove your newly found love into their noses.
Following this logic, he would say that.
Following his logic, he would average each movie and conclude that movies in general are (not) worth watching
talking about anime, anime in general is ~not~ worth watching
I absolutely loved anime when the only things I had been exposed to were films like Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell, Wings of Honneamise, etc, back in the '90s/early '00s. Real, mature films. And I'd watch some Sailor Moon when I'd come home from school for lunch, heh. I was 10 or 12 or something and itt was new and different and neat.
Then I met a friend of a friend who was completely obsessed with it and he exposed me to the fucked up world of an Otaku or fuckin' weeaboo or whatever. Conventions, blankets, entire walls full of manga and DVD sets and wall scrolls/posters, little figurines on his desk of scantily clad, big busted anime girls who looked barely of age, and anything not anime related was Japanese related, from his clothes to his food to his games. It totally blew my head off because I had no idea there were fat little nerds with cartoon fetishes and obsessions over one small aspect of another country's culture.
So, I'd say there's nothing inherently wrong with anime, even though there's just as much trash as there is on regular TV these days, but it's the fan base that brings the negative attention and THEY certainly deserve it.
Don't worry mate. Hate is words that tells when a flesh of man is confused and not understandning.
Hate it use for bring down the enemies to the lowest point, there were the hating men can feel honored among themself.
hate is also used for defence. scared and cold, by drinking the blood of the hate from the enemy will it heat the cold hearted men.
Only men who see the whole image, are the one who carry the sword of wise, calm and independent.
While the cold hearted beasts, only carry one thing... Bold taste.

How is this thread in any way shoving Anime in peoples faces? I know that disliking Anime is an opinion, which is fine, but people seem to hate all Anime, for no reason at all.

I liked that movie as a kid, didn't realize it was total shit haha.
What about Panty and Stocking? That's an amazing anime that has a simple art style and isn't afraid to go over the top. Hell, the first monster is literally made out of shit.

Panty and Stocking seems pretty childish to me. Not in a suitable for children way, more in a it's incredibly immature and is basically entertaining if you turn your brain off way.
To answer the question from the thread title; Yes. The general dislike of anime is unwarranted, seeing as it often stems from blind hate towards cookie cutter mainstream shows, misaimed to target the whole medium. Saying that all anime sucks based on a close-minded and narrow look is like dismissing all movies due to watching anything by Uwe Boll. If you've seen several anime and still think they're not your cup of tea, fine, but have a look into things first; If all you've watched are low-quality productions, you will think all anime have subpar animation/voice acting/music/whatever. If all you've watched are cutesy slice-of-life shows, you have a severely limited view on the medium. These are just examples, and I don't feel like coming up with any more of them, you get the idea. Expand those views before criticizing.
Now, the shit above has been mentioned by several persons before me in better or worse wording and phrasing than mine. Here, however, is my own two cents to the table:
I'd say some of the dislike from the "non-anime-watching-people" (in lack of a better word [and sleep :P]) towards anime has surfaced when the geekfest cutesy comedy series started popping up a few years ago, along with other series that have too much Japanese cultural references to be ignored. While I, as a self-admitted anime geek, like some of those shows (yes, I like for example Lucky Star, sue me), I can fully understand why the general public sees them as utterly pointless garbage; Because they have no value to the non-geeks.
I do NOT make the mistake of trying to recommend series that require anime fandom as a prerequisite for enjoyment to newcomers, or even worse, push it in their faces. That would be extremely stupid, and simultaneously it would create a (justified) hater.
I have nothing against anime, but is just not my thing. I do not like the animation styles and stories most of the time. The only anime I can think of that I somewhat enjoyed was Afro Samurai.
Everytime someone brings up the subject of Anime, there is alot of hatred or dislike towards it.
Usuall arguments include:
- The Word Weeaboo
Basically, it is mostly the weeaboos(AKA the community)

Weeaboos are not the community. They are part of it, but they are not all like that -and EnyclopediaDramatica isn't really a reliable source. Some people being really obsessed with it is not a reason to hate Anime - They aren't going to have an effect on the ones you watch.
Katekyo Hitman Reborn, Utawarerumono, Tears to Tiara and Soul Eater are pretty good short animes.
Its all in a persons tastes. I, for instance, enjoy Trigun and Ghost in the Shell. Both are exceptional series, but most others I cannot enjoy as much. I have tried the more common ones: Naruto and Bleach, and I got into them, but only for a little while. They really aren't that good for me anymore. Sufficed to say, people who dislike it just haven't found the Anime for them, yet.
Steins;Gate is the best anime ever, hands down.
Its pretty much about the taste you have though.Even though I like anime myself. I have to say that most of the "famous" ones are bad.Like K-On. There are good ones, just hard to find.
I like bleach.
