Agree.
Any info hypno toad?
Long awaited update.
I still don't have a bandsaw tire, I phoned up the tool repair place; Long story short, I talked to the clerk, and she said she ordered them a few weeks ago, and she'll look up the shipping info and phone me back on monday to tell me when the tires will probably arrive. until then, I can't cut the neck or the body. I started work on the neck, doing all the measurements, drawing out the headstock and drilling the pegholes.
Here's the pictures (I modified the color curves so you can see the pencil marks)

Neck is 22 fret, basic 25 1/2" fender scale.
Hmm, this thread is awfully quiet :saddowns:
Nobody complaining about a non-spikey headstock shape?

Fuck that. I like what you got already.
Doesn't have to be pointy to be good, anyone with a brain should know that.
Plus, a pointy headstock on a tele would look like ass
I hope it comes out nearly as good as the others, you're pretty awesome at this. Ever considered making a 24-fret guitar? Or an extended range (25+fret) guitar?
Yeah, I plan on doing 24 fret when I build my first neck-through.
Also, interestingly, padauk is apparently a pretty awesome tonewood, which I didn't know when i bought it.

As a note, active EMGs don't work with normal pot values, you need 25k pots for them. You probably already knew that, but you said normal tele pots in your original post, so thought i'd say.
Edit - Oh, and set the neck in. Its more work by miles, but so versatile.

They are passive emgs. I've switched to a tele bride, so I may not use the EMGs for both the bridge and neck. I have some cheaper pickups that I put copper shielding around, I may use one of those for the bridge. I can see the emg select being a good pickup for the neck rhythm pickup.
Set in necks are OK, but you're fucked if the neck gets damaged. I may carve out a heel for the bolts and and use 3 bolts with washers as apposed to the standard square mounting plate, so the heel can be roundish.
I don't generally plan for my guitars to get damaged :P Playability/tone is king for me. Hence why when I FINALLY get around to getting some custom work done, it'll be neckthru.
And EMG select? Aren't they the lowest end EMGs?

Yeah. Lowest price doesn't necessarily mean the sound quality goes down. It's an electromagnetic coil, it's a fairly simple principle of electromagnetism and the phenomenon is fairly unbias in terms of what country they were made in, what the grade of the plastic or epoxy filler is, or what grade the metal is. They sound good. Besides, they are one of the only EMG models that aren't overwound for higher gain and output.
There is of course the argument that cheaper wire is used with more impurities which results in higher capacitance and disproportionate resistance, eddy currents, that less wire is used which means lower output, that the magnets are weaker or less uniform...etc etc.
Not to mention that while they are pretty basic devices in theory, there are lots of ways of making them complicated and changing their structure.
Edit: though most of those ways apply to humbuckers in my knowledge. But meh.
Well, thre are really high end high tech pickups that sound absolutely gorgeous, but that's way on the high end.
I think of it more like this:
________________-----------------------------------------------_______
The first part being low end, and all the "-" being midrange, and then the last set of underscores being high end.
There just a huge amount of rather midrange pickups sold for high prices because of production standards and materials, then there are the absoutely garbage pickups with huge feedback, low product life and no shielding that you get with $100 guitars. EMG selects are just cheap midrange pickups.
You'll notice in the picture earlier I attempted to cut the neck with the small jigsaw I have at my house. problem with hard maple is that it is hard (durh) and made the jigsaw shit out.
Now I bought this monster today :3:

Gonna make that neck piece my bitch.
Make a dean razorback next.
An Gibson explorer shape would be cool, not too classy, not to unclassy, classic, not too simple, not too complicated.
Honestly, I'm really not a fan of those pointy designs, I'm more a fan of the curvier retro style designs. An explorer isn't too bad, but it probably wouldn't be my next one.
Here's a small progress update.

Only got in about 20 minutes today, because I went tool shopping. By the time I had set up my two new tools, it was getting dark.

Lol it was a joke, Dean Razorbacks are terrible.
Yay, people agree :v:
I like the design so far.
Dean Razorbacks are stupid.
Deans suck dick.

Don't back down. Ram that pointy headstock up his arse.
Next one, I maybe promise.
I may have to go with something other than a floyd rose. i only have about $600 or so. if I can't find a good planer for less than $450, I won't be able to afford the floyd rose until next paycheck. I suppose I could always wait until then, but I want to start making it asap.
Get a kahler trem, their better than any floyd ive ever played, and i think thier cheaper, plus what shape is it your going for this time?
..please not another start :D

Spent quite a bit of time on it today. could have gotten more done on it if it wasn't raining today.
I've still got to sand the neck smooth, glue on the fretboard, possibly use a bit of silicon to secure the truss rod, thin out the headstock, do the oil finish, and then do the fret work. That stuff should take about another day. Then I'll start on the body.

I've got a vintage kahler, but I'm going to use the tele bridge on this one.
How many frets will there be? I cbf going back all those pages
22
Looks like the build is going well, what do you think your next project will be?
Probably a bass of some sort.
