i don't understand what steampunk actually is. it looks cool, but i don't know what makes something steampunk.
It has to fill two criterias. 1)based around the victorian era. 2)It has a steam engine to power it. That's why Iron Grip universe is Dieselpunk!
there is loads of awesome stuff when you simply search steampunk on google images :buddy: Like this
The only thing I dislike against Steampunk PC mods are the keyboards... call me old-fashioned, but it'd be _Awesome_ if somebody could mod an old typewriter into a PC keyboard... Even a small typewriter like this one could make an amazing keyboard. Or this one... It'd be a kickass Steampunk PC keyboard too (A heavy one, actually :P) Judging from that pic, he's using an IBM model M keyboard, which has that "clickety-clack" kind of sound that resembles an old typewriter, so I forgive that modder :v:
Does anyone know if it is possible to get watch parts anywhere, just the mechanisms inside them, I don't want the actual watch though.
http://shop.ebay.com/aliciasartwork/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg= I've bought from her, exceptional service and decent prices. Buuut seeing as you're from the UK I can't guarantee low shipping. BUT, you're in luck! An artist I watch said she just went around to various watch/clock repair shops and asked if she could have some scraps (broken, irreparable watches and such), and she made out like a bandit, sporting a box FULL of broken watches and the like. So you could try that, it's worth a shot at any rate. I actually ended up buying a couple of tins from the supplier I linked to because I plan on someday making an army for Warhammer FB that features an almost entirely mechanical army. It'll be grand.
My summer project this year is to build a new computer, and I'm thinking next summer I'll try to build a steampunk case for it. I figure I'll buy some el cheapo case and strip off the plastic and steel so it's just the component holding parts and then build around it. My dads a jeweler so hopefully I can get some sheets of brass and copper scraps cheaply. And there's a clock repair shop in my town owned by this really nice guy so I'll try to beg some old gears off him. Sometime in the next few days I'll draw up some plans and post 'em here.
Is the airship thing included in Steampunk? Or is just something adaptable to anything. Most of the time I see it associated with Steampunk due to steam engines, but I've seen dieselpunkish airships too.
More steam\diesel punk guitar plx
Dug up an old photoshop comp from back in the day. I used to think this was the shiznit. Now I think it's pretty fucking crappy. I wrote a backstory for it and everything :v:
Introducing Gunther MKII the engineer of the St Berdnadette. A seafaring steam vessel that lurks in the seas from Dunkirque to the bay of biscay hijacking merchant vessels taking luxury goods from the continent to England. Gunther MK II is more combat ready than his first incarnation(which was lost to the Merchant navy some years previously) and his vital (and considerably fragile) clockwork components are housed away from the torso (where they were in the original Gunther) Gunther is silent, obedient and anything he cannot fix is either not worth fixing or in (very) tiny pieces. Gunther's gun fires .360 bore lead shot and can store up to 8 shots before reloading. A re-enforced shoulder joint, elbow joint and over sized hand on his right arm allows him to fire his exceptionally large gun with almost zero recoil making him a particularly accurate (if not a little slow to bring it to aim) shot.
sorry for a bump but this stuff is just too good to let this thread die, also that last pic looks cool.
It also has the worst opening music in the history of everything.
Yep. The ending music was great though, really fit the mood of the series.
I don't know if this is very steampunk, but these goggles that Jamie has are fucking awesome
I'm thinking of modifying a pair of headphones to look steampunky, any tips/suggestions?
Made these for myself, they look awesome. (These are just the pictures from the instructables)
Anyone know what this is from?
I'd hump it regardless :flashfap: EDIT: It does resemble the ones seen in a pic on the first page however... Still haven't received my pocketwatch :saddowns:
Anyone know what this is from?
I think that might be one of the airships from castle in the sky. Goliath if memory serves.
Anyone know what this is from? Also I just bought Bone Shaker, its good so far.
This is from Isotx's Iron Grip game series/universe. Amazing stuff, but their game planning is lousy.

Give me clocks if you guys already saw these epic fellows I kinda consider my avatar steampunk influenced
I just bought this Handmade Victorian Era Pocketwatch there. Ain't she a beauty! Ill post pics when it gets here!
If a pocketwatch says "quartz" on it, it's usually a shitty watch that will last a about year, then stop working. (That's my experience with them, at least)
If a pocketwatch says "quartz" on it, it's usually a shitty watch that will last a about year, then stop working. (That's my experience with them, at least)
Do you know what stops them from working?
Do you know what stops them from working?
Is that a rhetorical question?
I have these sweet old welding glasses that are kind of steampunk-ish. I've yet to make a new strap, using makeshit rubberband strap currently [IMG_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4888695/MADscientistsummer.jpg[/img_thumb]
Is that a rhetorical question?
No, i meant "What made them stop?"
No, i meant "What made them stop?"
I don't know. Your best bet is to go to some kind of antique shop and get one that isn't super-mass produced.
I also have this very old watch. [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4888695/old%20watch.jpg[/img_thumb] Broken though, might get it fixed.
And now, for your reading/viewing pleasure, a man making an Analytical Engine out of Meccano. http://www.meccano.us/
