Ratings are not stupid.
They are a good way to see how people interpret your posts, without them you wouldn't be able to grasp what people who don't reply think about your post.
They are only stupid when people use them for the wrong reasons, like someone posting about their dog being killed and getting the funny rating.

You could also add some flavor to your post. Say "I agree", then say why you agree and possibly your own opinion on the subject of matter.
