If you don't mind micro-managing everything in a household and like to build things, go for the Sims.

I LOVE building things, that's why I really liked the first one. But WoW is really fun too, albeit more expensive.

Building in the Sims gets really fun but often times tedious, and some of the cooler things you can add to the houses are in the later expansions. Main problem with getting the expansions is that the load time from the base game goes up exponentially depending on how many expansions you get.
And the expansions are more expensive than the game itself...
Could have sworn that there's a bundle with at least the first two expansions together with the base.

I have the Sims 3. It's really not that much fun. It's so mundane and pointless, you feel like a Sim yourself. Go with WoW. I had a ten day trial, and it was alright. More fun just to go around with people and fuck shit up medieval style.
But I love to build shit, building is so much fun and gah I'm about to explode from the decision. I think I'll use the giftcard to buy sims 3 and then download WoW 10 day trial and then buy it because I can.

Building stuff is fun, but it's bogged down by tons of other stuff, and you're a bit more restricted. I downloaded the new Autodesk Revit Architecture 2011 program, and I used to be in a architecture class back in high school, so I'm learning this program to see if I can come up with a simplistic floor plan.
