I also did that a few days ago, going from 5th to 2nd or something like that.
Gave me a huge nose dive from the difference, but I saw the colossal mistake I had made and clutched it the moment it screamed for help. It SHOULD be ok... at least nothing went KABOOM

I know somone who has done it with a semi truck, he got to 4.5k rpm or so, it was so brutal the ecu went 10 meters away.
